Just edit this thread and turn it into a poll with three options:

1. Bart's PR
2. Timmy's PR
3. No PR

and we'll see the results after two days.

I vote yes on PR. Administrator I would say should be someone who actually wants to be it. Panelists should know just about everyone and go to most of the tournaments. I'll volunteer to be a panelist if i need too. I think that's everything.

cmin, balloon, juce, timmy for panelists. i DO NOT agree with pr being based off of that one pr tournament, minh jesse and bart were going the right direction and it was exciting to see that it finally was coming together.

sucks some people want all the spotlight and responsibility for themselves cause i totally agreed with barts cmin juce pr... heh

also why am i not on osm list of players? i may not be super active or have the mad skillz but seeing my name is awesome and im around much more lately.

and even though tommy is opposed to The Finger Bang it should be listed as an upcoming tournament since its been set for a good 2 weeks now.

Wow janker, I love you. I'm glad you recognize what's going on.

Timmy and Tommy were the only ones opposed to the PR I put up. Everybody else liked it and thought it was great. It didn't involve them though, so they threw a hissyfit. I had wanted Timmy as a panelist before, but he seemed to be highly disinterested in doing a PR the right way. So, instead he threw together that bs "ranking tournament."

I'm kinda opposed to the power rankings actually, the way it was presented to me seemed rather rude. Somebody put my name somewhere on pretty much the very bottom of the list without posting to me or telling me why or anything. Its impersonal. However.

I understand the need of a PR list. I think these lists could be printed out by people from OOS looking to compete, and they have this list in their pockets and they know who they want to fight, they fight that person and the next one, and can find out where they place in a PR of their own through ours.
It also gives the people lower on the PR list a goal to improve.

Say if Baloon thought himself top of the PR list, and they ranked him third, he'd want to improve and be the best he can be.

Another negative thing about the PR list is the margin at which people are good or bad.

1 MCS
2 Balloon
3 Juce
4 timmy
4 tommy
4 tudios
5 shin
5 sam!
5 samuel L Jackson

If the names are listed this way, i'll be higher, timmy and tommy will be higher. We are NOT showing the 'paper-thin' margin that exists between select players. There are tallented people who happened to have lost a tournament or not been to many tournaments, that just get thrown on the bottom or not put in at all.
Presentation is VERY important to people who don't know anything about power rankings. Think of the way you think when you see this visual

1 Timmy
2 Tudios
3 MCS
4 Shin

vs

1 Bart 2 MCS 3 JEsse 4 Shin

(wow up and down vs left and right, see the difference?)

or

1 Eggs 1 Bart 2 Shin 2 Juce

1 Eggs
1 Gimyp
2 Shin
2 Harrison Ford
(there are two second places? They must both be very good)

, I guess I wasted my time posting this but, thats something to randomly consider... I guess.

If you aren't motivated to become better then that's your own problem, and nobody should have to hold your hand with gimmicks like PRs(of which the method for motivation is lack of self-worth[or attention of others' opinion, either way it's a negative concept with a rigid psychological escape route]) to get you to try and improve.

Motivation for improvement aside, I agree with what Todd said about OOS wanting to play top PR people, and it would make sense that the people who place best in most tournaments(like an average or whatever, how they do it for the Tier Lists) should place top in PR. The only problem is that some people have been around longer than others(which can be remedied by taking recent samples I suppose) and that some people don't attend tournaments as regularly as others(which is their own problem).

Either way I don't care - I think the idea is just silly - but that's my two cents on the issue.

I think having a PR would help us out, it would let people know who to watch out for anyways, who to look forward to fighting in tournies and what not.

If you can't tell that just by playing friendlies or watching them play then something is wrong.

That Bemanistyle.com site is a good site, but for some reason I can't get the songs into my Stepmania, when I download them off stepmania.com the file is something like .smzip but bemanistyle is .zip. It doesn't work, so I saved it as .smzip and put it in my Stepmania, it said that the song was done or uploaded correctly or whatever, then didn't show up in the game. Can someone tell me how to get the songs off bemanistyle into my Stepmania game?

pr is great because it forces you to play better, care about where you are in the rank and NOT sandbag. if you do sandbag you will eventually fall off the pr and nobody will care about you either way...

sure i know who is better than me going in to a tournament but a ranking system is a good way to prove yourself and monitor progress you have made.

if some people are super opposed to pr and dont like being ranked or will whine about where they are then they should just request to not be ranked. it defeats the whole purpose really if half the people dont want to be ranked, but the other half want it and it will not interfere with the non-believers.

Seriously. I don't understand why everybody in Oregon has to agree to an Oregon PR for us to have one. The one Jesse Minh and I made was completely fine, and if somebody didn't want to be on it all they had to do was say so.

Why wasn't I on it?

EDIT: I eliminated Ronin in low tiers, not that this fact means much except I might have a better grasp of the metagame than him (I used pikachu whom I don't even play...at all), in regular singles I took him to the last game but he eliminated me and then I money matched him and beat him 3 times in a row using sheik (Falcon and Fox are my mains above Sheik) against his main (Dr. Mario).

Other than that I have beaten Tudios twice and lost to him three times. I consistently took cmin to one/two stocks in friendlies...I take Juce down to two stocks pretty consistently. Tommy should be on the list, when he is trying he is better than Timmy and I think Timmy knows it.

EDIT 2 for Josh: Why do you care if we have a PR list? You don't have to be on it or involved with it at all. Just let those who want it have it.

Lol this is true, it wasn't a tournament though, it was a smashfest and there were 12 newbies out of 15 people, it was incredibly casual.

Didn't you quit smash, Dorian?

EDIT for Ronin: I know and I hate doing it because I go to so few tournaments that it's like if I point out anyone that I beat it is like I am singling them out. It could be unfair to you to say because we could possibly trade off wins and losses if we played everyday but since I'm pulling from such a small statistical base it just seems like I'm being rude. Really, I'm not trying to be rude, it is just all I have to work with. I really need to go to more tournaments so I don't come across as a jerk whenever I bring up that I've beaten someone.

I am almost certain it was out of five because I was nervous because I wasn't sure if I was going to win and I wanted to have as many chances as possible.

As I just posted in the OSU 3 thread

That sucks that the thread for the PR is locked. It made me want to improve also. Seriously the first thing I said when I saw that was "Next tournament I am getting on the that power ranking" It shouldn't be locked just because bart and the others were ones to take a step out and actually get it set up. If they didn't do that then it would never have got done. Why can't we just keep this one EVERYONE agrees on it or doesn't care except tommy and maybe timmy.

Duke, did you even read any of the thread, or did you just glance at the rankings and instantly start whining?

Yes, I understand that the PR only encompassed the results from the past two tournaments but I was making the argument that it shouldn't be. It's not truly a state power rankings list...instead it's a tournament result thread.

Neither of you are better than Ronin. =/

I'm pretty sure I said I don't care.

And no, Jayce, it does not force you to play better.

Okay, so you clearly didn't read the thread. Thanks for proving my point further.

Also, Josh, I don't think Jayce meant that you automatically play better. It motivates people to practice which in turn will make them play better. Note that practice does not mean playing friendlies for hours upon end. A PR list will, in fact, motivate players to practice, proofs being Shin's admitting to turning his GCN on and playing as well as Peach Masta being more inspired. Even I started playing by myself more often and found myself coming up with scenarios to work out and such, as well as find ways to combo different characters. A PR is just what we need.

Whatever, my placement on a list of skill for a videogame hyposedes hurting someone's feelings. I just need to go to more tournaments.

It may not force you to play better but it provides more incentive to some people to get better and thus play better.

EDIT:

Was there something false about what I said, Bart?

So Jesse (Juce), Minh (Cmin), and myself (Bart, Balloon) got together and discussed each player in Oregon's top 10 along with the two most recent tournaments' results to determine a list.
As far as I understand that, you guys only used the results from the two most recent tournament. What part of the thread were you planning on me relaying to prove that I read the thread?
