Could you define "hyposedes" for me? I don't get what you're saying with that, and I can't seem to find a definition for it at any online dictionaries.

It doesn't motivate me or stop me from sandbagging(maybe because I don't care about it). I believe the people are the ones who motivate themselves, and it is motivation founded on escaping the negative. I can't remember what kind of conditioning this is or whatever I learned in x psychology class but you know what I'm saying. And in any case, my point was that we shouldn't have to pull gimmicks to try and get people to want to be better. If they care enough(and usually if they have any considerable amount of potential) they should just do it from the start. That's how I see it. I don't care what you guys do with the list, so no need to take it into consideration for the 48 hour timeframe you have.

I think he made it up but it's comprehendable. Hypo - below, under, etc. Super in supercede means higher priority and supercede is taking higher priority. So it takes lower priority for him.

Josh, I understand what you're saying and agree: if people truly wanted to get better at the game, then they really shouldn't have a motivator like a list of players. However, in my opinion, having a PR that does make a player want to improve, regardless if that's what should make them want to improve or not, is better for more people. And besides, if the main goal of a smash community is to improve their overall skill level, then who cares how it's achieved? Sometimes it's hard to motivate oneself until you have others ranking you against others. It's all about relativity. If you don't feel a need to improve, then that's cool for you. I feel the need to improve and I think most of Oregon's players do as well, they just don't realize it until their position is put into perspective.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for self-improvement. What does it for me is the real stuff. Tournament results. Or just when I ask someone for a "real match," playing with all our metagame we can muster. Unfortunately I can't get to much with the other things in my life, but oh well.

On another note, I'm thinking of hosting another smashfest/tournaments and possibly wanting to get posters and shit put up around school(and facebook group) to get the UO kids' participation. :>

No, I understood what you said. I was just stating what I thought about the effect a PR would have, which seemed to differ from what you thought.

Bart, don't worry about it, I was talking to Josh when I said that. It technically isn't a word, the root 'hypo' means under and the root 'sed or sede' means settled/sit/position. Meaning my placement on the PR takes 'less of a position or priority' than hurting Ronin's feelings.

It was meant to be the opposite to supersede. As in, my love for money supersedes my love for women.

EDIT: Josh, why shouldn't we pull 'gimmicks' to get people to play better? Is there something wrong with that?

Yeah, I just didn't know what the prefix meant. I get it now.

Anyway, I highly doubt Ronin's feelings would ever be hurt by you saying you're better than him... o_O

If you are, though, go to The Finger Bang and prove it.

If only I could give that kind of answer in my debate competitions.

EDIT: I'm trying to get something together to make it to Finger Bang.

Eh, hypo- corresponds better to hyper- than super-. I'd go with sub-.

Also, wouldn't it be easier to invert the sentence (IE: "hurting someone's feelings supersedes my placement on a list of skill for a videogame," still bad gramatically, but it's a start) or use a passive construction (EG: "My love of semantic nuance is superseded only by my penchant for getting into pointless arguments"), rather than looking dumb by making up a word?

Can you guys try and avoid this "I beat him so I'm better" crap? That isn't how PR is done. It goes by overall performance VS ALL players and OOSers, and tournament placings, taking not only into account your actual placement, but who you play against as well.

I literally have no time to post, but I'm saving this thread on my laptop to read later and to let you all know I'm here.

Anyway, can we please just get my PR thread unlocked? If we don't then we will just be back to square one.

Like I said, I want you to be a panelist Timmy.

Can we put up a poll specifically for Oregon players so they can vote on whether that thread should be the Oregon PR and offering other options like add Timmy as a panelist? Can we do something? It's already been proven that the PR list is beneficial.

I don't know Shane. I've always ***** everyone with logic but rarely do people acknowledge just how ***** they have been. This is the problem.

totally agreed. besides whos above who and all that whining is not what we should focus on, its simply deciding on an admin, panelists and which thread to use. we need to come to a consensus and get barts thread unlocked.

Making a Power Ranking is not a popularity contest. This is about if OR wants a PR List and doing it well.

Neither thread has to technically reopen. Those of us who want the Oregon PR to happen need to take action together, as a state. This is why all OR PR threads have been closed by nealdt - he wants us to come together and agree on what needs to be done and how to do it. Any ranking or list of players is secondary to this, and some of you seem to have forgotten that.

What we need to discuss, agree on, and notify the moderators of is who the maker of the thread should be (i.e. Regional Administrator / Sponsor) and a minimum of 3 panelists who will discuss and maintain the Oregon Power Rankings.

I'm glad t!mmy is here to keep putting things back on track.
Oregon, look past the spam for once and get things done, I believe this is the last day to get it together before OR is barred from even having a PR.

Administrator - Obviously this is t!mmy's job, nobody in Oregon can feasibly deny that he is the most active member of the community, has hosted the most tournaments (and the most successful ones), is one of the most traveled smasher, has the most experience with the players both in-state and OoS, and to top it all of has the incredible language talent of composing ideas into concise posts.

As far as panelists go: Foos said he wanted to be a panelist, and I can't think of anyone better, to tell you the truth. His only shortcoming is that he hasn't been as active in the community as he once was, however, he has expressed he will be attending tournaments, no johns, and being a panelist will give him more reason to be a more active part of the community. In addition to this, I feel he has a very candid view on people, with very little bias.
I second him being a panelist.

We need a minimum of two more panelists and very little time. Whoever wants to be one, either ask to be one, or we'll end up nominating you.

On a side note, I do not think I should be a panelist because some people may think I would have a bias in the panel. So, I decline. Additionally, anyone else who may have a bias should not be considered.
