Guess who does know that Captain Falcon is an F-Zero character and one of the original 10 franchises? Sakurai. He is the one keeping the series relevant to Nintendo by his mere presence in Smash. That is honestly enough in my opinion. I don't really care if kids at your school don't know what franchise he is from.
I was just using it as an example.
I'm saying that F-Zero is not as important as Saturn makes it out to be.

Also adding this in because it makes me laugh, but the reason Villager even uses things from classic NES games is because of Animal Crossing have many things from said games in the franchise, like the Ice Climbers game in the original Gamecube version. It makes sense for someone like the Villager to use said things...giving it to another character from a franchise with no connections to the Secret of Murasame Castle is just completely stupid.

I said it's one of the most highly regarded Nintendo franchises along with Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Metroid, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Star Fox, and Animal Crossing.

Not on the same level as those franchises, but F-Zero is on the list of the most classic IPs.

I have the feeling that the moves taken from Wii Sports (Boxing Gloves, Bowling Ball) and Nintendo Land (Balloon Fighter cap) are because the Villager will be customizable with the Mii Mask. That way he represents both of Nintendo's most prominent avatars.

Saying F-Zero is not big enough for a new character is absolute bull **** considering we have Lucas and support Palutena.

Having a recent installment does not make you more important than another franchise. Or else Animal Crossing, Yoshi, and Chibi Robo and should get another character before Metroid does.

How do we even know that the boxing gloves and bowling ball are from Wii Sports? I'm pretty sure there must be a bowling ball furniture item in the franchise (Don't quote me on this, I don't know the full list of furniture in Animal Crossing)

I completely agree that F-Zero should get another character.
My question is will it, and I'm leaning towards no, which is why I have so many counter arguments against it.
I don't dislike the idea, I just don't know if it's something Sakurai will do this time around.

I haven't played the game, but his gloves and bowling ball immediately screamed, "Wii Sports!"

I honestly like the idea of a Mii-mask. I just envision a Mii to play... well, exactly like Villager. Haha.

Just like Goroh could represent Nintendo's other most prominent Samurai.

Well considering Sakurai really doesn't treat F-Zero any less than most franchises and gives it arguably more representation than it deserves...heck he even invented the Falcon Flyer and glorified on the Dojo how overdue Goroh's apperance as something more significant was.

I am sorry, but what counter-arguments did you have aside from the notion that the series is decadent (hence Falcon is more commonly associated with Smash than F-Zero)? That is literally the only argument I have ever seen opposing him.

I think now Villager defeats the appeal and uniqueness of Miis entirely.

Let me ask you a question, something you should ask yourself before going out of your way to support a character like Samurai Goroh. The question is...what does Samurai Goroh represent in the F-Zero franchise that Captain Falcon does not? Believe what you may, every character represents something in the franchise they're from. For example, Mario is the main hero, Luigi is the sidekick, Peach is the damsel and main female, Bowser is the villain, and Rosalina is the character that shows the way roads that the Mario series has taken and will continue to take. Every newcomer we predict also has a significant form of representation. Ridley is the main villain and the character who's responsible for Samus' current career, King K.Rool is the main villain of the Donky Kong franchise. People can say what they want about the term "Rep" being bad, and in a way it is, but deny it if you want, but in the end of every character represents something different in their franchise, some of them representing everything in the franchise at once. And more often than not, even if said character is a clone, they have a position that means something to the franchise they're a part of.

Takamaru would represent a new series and complete the 1986 quadruplets (the others being Link, Pit, and Samus).

I am not sure if there is a catchy hook for Takamaru or Samurai Goroh. Not that there needs to be one. I think I would choose Takamaru over Goroh, but neither excite me.

That's not true. He gets in the way of more requested characters on Smashboards.. :troll:

In fact it's more weak then supposedly the argument of F-Zero needing more representation

I feel Samurai Goroh would get in over Takamaru. It'd basically be having Takamaru while F-Zero gets the overdue character it deserves.

He would represent the "self-proclaimed rival," honestly he fits into the villain/anti-hero archetype just fine. If Sakurai doesn't agree, I honestly feel as if the F-Zero relevance accumulated throughout Smash could be imputed to Black Shadow. Although, I don't necessarily think Sakurai feels that way (yada yada Melee cut-scene and assist trophy blah blah).

Like MorbidAltruism said, they just scream Wii Sports. Plus having a bowling ball and boxing gloves can't be a mere coincidence (they're not in Animal Crossing). As for Mii Masks, all they have to do is put a Mii icon near Villager's portrait that you click on and then select your miii. Plus Sakurai stated in an interview that characters for the 3DS version would be customizable to a degree and be able to be imported into the Wii U version.

Just be able to import your Mii face onto the villager. It is weird that the Villager has a bowling ball, because that is one of the first things I think about when I hear Mii (Bowling is the best game).

Still up Peach's dress.

Is it wrong I envision them playing quite differently?

Like Goroh just looks ridiculously powerful and Takamaru looks speedier. Think how different Ike and Marth are but with Katana over western swords.

Although if it came down to a choice between the two I know which I'd pick. It's Goroh if you haven't been paying attention.

This sounds really nice, but the thing that makes me question this is the kind of game F-Zero is, which is a racing game. For most of the franchise, there was little to no story, most of the story coming from the last installment in the franchise, F-Zero GX. When I think of F-Zero, aside from the main character Captain Falcon, the thing that comes to mind next is the vehicles. Sure, each vehicle has a different driver, but in the end you don't overall pick your car on the driver, you pick it on the stats, so in that way the vehicle overtakes the importance of the driver in the actual game. And, as stated, Captain Falcon's fighting style is based off his vehicle, the Blue Falcon. So in a way, Captain Falcon already represents both of the main essences of the F-Zero franchise, which is the main character (Himself) and the vehicles you race with (his moveset inspiration). If any character should be picked to represent more storyline parts of the franchise, it should be Black Shadow.

Like I said: Goroh would likely be a mixture of Samurai fighting and fist fighting. More so than Ike was a mixture of Sword and body strength.

Yea, are you suppose to run with a katana with one hand and swing it to and fro? Seems like something a kid would do before accidently severing off a limb.

So...any reason that they picked Falco of all people to represent Melee on the new header?

And another thing, am I the only one who doesn't give a crap about 3rd-parties? I'm in this for Nintendo, not for whoever the guest characters are.

It's like buying Soul Calibur 2 for Link. Which I did, but my point still stands.

Megaman feels like a Nintendo character to me. Especially the classic Megaman.

Probably to prove that competitive Smash isn't always a Fox mirror match on Final Destination (no items on). Falco does this quite well in my opinion, as he is not Fox.

Overall, I see Goroh and Takamaru as two completely different characters, who don't need to take from each other to have a unique moveset. At the very least, there is reasoning as to why the villager has certain moves. I don't understand why Goroh would be able to be invisible when you can make work with his size.

I still find him bland.

Interesting idea for the Villager though. I never considered the bowling ball that way.

Let's talk about Kirby Hats:

What would the "hats" be for

Wii Fit Trainer
Tabuu
Rosalina
Palutena
Robin

Also somebody should draw Kirby Hats for these characters. (When I think about a Master Hand "Hat" I think of Spongebob's Glove World hat)

Responses in BLU.

Seems pretty out of place.

"Such iconic characters as Mario, Pit, Animal Crossing's Villager, and...Falco."
Better than Spacie #1. Most people I know hate Fox for his power in Melee.
