At this point for me it's not about Smash anymore but thinking they really are serious about celebrating Shantae's 20th anniversary next year.

I mean why else would there still be no release date for the first game's Switch port. I've never seen any third-party company show this amount of restraint for re-releasing the first game for their own landmark series.
The problem I have with this theory is that why hold off the ports when Limited Run already set up and sold pre-orders of the Original and Risky's Revenge last Summer? I would expect them to release those ports sometime in Spring or early Summer.

It could be anyone's guess, but either late spring or early summer may be the time for the GBC release both physical and digital.

Note how I didn't mention LRG at all. Those guys being tardy for physical stuff is nothing new, but we still got the digital release for RR on October last year.

When something takes an unusual amount of time to release, something is sometimes up, like the Famicom Detective Club remakes having no solid release date until it's been revealed that they were getting localized.

Currently, it's still Q1 2021 as a placeholder shipping date for the physical Shantae stuff on LRG's site, so we got about 19 days left for that to hold up.

But still, I imagine Limited Run would know ahead of time from WayForward when those ports would come out otherwise they wouldn't have set up the pre-orders last Summer. I mean, the longest time I wanted for something I pre-ordered was the wait for the Lucina Figma which was originally scheduled to come out in February of 2015, but got pushed back and delayed all the way to September of 2015. But that was a 7 month gap. What you were suggesting with them holding off releasing the ports until the series' 20th anniversary would mean Limited Run holding off the pre-orders for 2 years which I find extremely unlikely. They most likely know when WayForward is going to drop those ports otherwise they wouldn't have set those pre-orders up. I've never seen anything that went up for pre-order got delayed longer than a year upon it's original confirm date.

Question for RetrogamerMax, do you think it’ll be interesting having Six from Little Nightmares in Smash as DLC including Lloyd as a Mii costume for having more Bandai Namco rep after we only have Pac Man?

Still, there's less than 20 days left for the preorder date to be considered accurate. That's not very much time. The very least Limited Run could've done is announce a delay

For now, a lot of people are interesting in Figure Theory. (Although it is vague since a lot of video game characters have a figure of some kind.)

1. Figure theory I don't think really works since A. as you mentioned lots of video game characters have figures and B. some never had any prior to Smash and their respective amiibo (Duck Hunt for example).
2. Thanks for reminding me I need to watch the last 2 episodes of Close Enough. Guess I figured out my plans for tomorrow.
3. Going back to the Shantae Game Boy Color on Switch thing, I'm still a bit surprised no word has come out regarding the digital release.

I will agree that the long waiting with no news from LRG and even WF is making some anxious and/or angry.

I hope they have plans to reveal it soon.

It‘s already been months and months ever since we heard about Shantae GBC coming to the Switch. I don’t see a point waiting for like 6 months just for Shantae GBC port and honestly it’s not worth waiting that much anymore. RR was already out and it was already worth it

I tell people here that they're most likely saving it for her birthday next year, yet somehow that's hard to believe. After they've made a big deal out of celebrating their own company's anniversary last year.

In the meantime, still waiting to see if Udon won't back out on releasing the Shantae artbook at the end of this month, especially after cancelling the ARMS graphic novel.

Then why bother with a preorder for it over a year in advance from Limited Run if that's the case? Wouldn't it make sense to save it for then?

SAKURAI SUS! Lol. Ok for real, Sakurai played Among Us which it sounds awesome he tried it. I hope that leads towards Impostor as Mii costume in Smash maybe in CP10 or 11.

I doubt the Impostor (Among Us) will be in fighters pass 2. Because the fighters were chosen and decided before Among Us became famous in late 2020.

I said I hope Impostor will be a mii costume in CP10 or 11. Not as a CP10 or 11 and I know it’s unlikely we’re getting Impostor in as a fighter

Even then, it's seemingly a stretch for a Mii costume considering both Undertale and Cuphead were around for at least a year or two before Ultimate released

Sak is just praising Among Us, that's it. It doesn't mean anything.
We all already know about what Sakurai plays doesn’t mean anything but since Miis are not picked, just been decided everytime we received a new fighter, he can add Impostor in as a mii costume if Sakurai’s interested about Among Us

Looks like Masahiro Sakurai is making it clear that there will be no new Fighters Pass after Fighters Pass 2 concludes. I know people have speculated that maybe he changed his mind over time, but given everything he's saying recently, it seems like he is adamant that this will be the last DLC for Ultimate: https://www.eventhubs.com/news/2021/mar/09/sakurai-reaffirms-dlc-remaining-ssbu/
During the era of Super Smash Bros. 4, Masahiro Sakurai at one point declared that Nintendo wasn't working on any DLC for the game beyond Mewtwo, who had already been announced. Following Mewtwo's release, Lucas, Roy, Ryu, Cloud, Corrin and Bayonetta would become DLC characters that were added to Super Smash Bros. 4 over the next year.

It is worth mentioning that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was able to surpass 21 million sales in 2020. Needless to say, Nintendo could have an interest in continuing Smash Ultimate's DLC run for a bit longer.

However, the safest route right now is to just temper expectations and take Sakurai's words at face value. While a Fighters Pass Vol. 3 would be awesome, we are very likely approaching the end of the development of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's DLC.”

Yeah, it’s definitely feeling like the end, but there’s still time for Nintendo to swoop in and say “Pleaaaaaase Sakurai one more year of dlc we’re making so much money!” I’m holding out a sliver of hope that’s the case because of
1- Nintendo will definitely need some filler due to Covid delays. While you may think 2020 was rough, the games releasing then were close to the end of development already. Any titles in the middle or just starting development were hit exponentially harder, so 2021 is going to see rough and delayed releases across the board. Using already existing teams to pump out DLC to fill the gaps in the schedule might be on Nintendo’s best interests, and that means calling for more Smash characters.
2- The timing of it. Fighters Pass 1 was stated to be finished by February 2020, we had regular releases of characters from Joker to Byleth every 2-3 months and ended right at February. Now, we have 2 characters left, but even after the big gap between Byleth and Min Min and all the covid delays, we still have 9 months to meet the deadline of December 2021. That seems strange to me for some reason I can’t explain.

Even if we don't get a Fighter's Pass 3, I could see one bonus character at the very end. I mean, this is Ultimate afterall and I don't see Plant being the only bonus DLC fighter despite him very likely originally being planned for base but pushed back to the DLC lineup just cause of time constraints.

Little Nightmares from what I can remember from videos. You are in somesort of underground place where creatures present are WAY bigger and scary to devour you. It is a survival horror game with a story to tell with the sequel.

So, instead of fully transforming for Shantae’s special moves, stick all of her combat moves from the GBC game and some familiar spells like fireball and storm puff to fill up her normals and Smash attacks. Then, make her down special her Transformation dance, which she can cycle between 3-4 forms. That makes it so they only have to animate new special moves, like Pyra and Mythra, and only bring in the new models on those moves. Then, let the new forms just change her frame data on her normals so you don’t have to reanimate everything, just assign some hitboxes and speed up or slow down some animations.
The one flaw with this line of thinking I see is that unlike Pyra and Mythra, Shantae's other forms would have different skeletal structures, unless they're her more humanoid ones. Couldn't really see them replicating her basic attacks in those forms.

Oh, I think I wasn’t clear. What I meant is that by cycling them with her down special, they only FULLY change her other 3 special moves, which involve transforming in them. For her standard attacks, smash attacks, aerials etc. she still looks and animates like normal Shantae, but the properties of the attacks - like timing, hitboxes, etc. - could be altered.
For example, if her jab was her hair whip, when set to Monkey it’s fast and weak, but when your dance is set to Elephant it’s still the hair whip, but slow and stronger.
Pyra and Mythra inspired the idea since they share animations on all of their attacks barring specials, only the hitboxes and speed changes. It would be hard to have Shantae have 4-5 fully animated movesets all in one!

If that's the case, then I say speculate what I think.
1. Second pass with Square Enix, Nintendo and Microsoft present could mean that no other character from those companies are coming.
Screenshot_20210304-083604_YouTube.jpg
2. Mii costumes may still hold weight depending if Lloyd appear as the last returning Mii Costume or the next fighter.
3. Spirit events post DLC of characters from the selected series may be out of the running.
4. Characters that are going to be in a crossover before Smash Bros plans were finished may be out. (Ex. Monster Hunter in Marvel vs Capcom Infinite as DLC)
5. Spirits before post DLC are still clear for an upgrade as seen with Min Min and now Pyra/Mythra to present the case.
6. Speculation and rumors CAN'T be trusted as now it's mostly pointless to use them.
1451455635411.gif
7. Coincidences are not favorable as it doesn't work. (Only time was for Little Mac's reveal back in Smash 4 for Punch Out's anniversity.)
8. Character(s) that may be under some or a lot of people's noses may be chosen. Surprises are always a possible factor with Sakurai holding the cards.

To summarize, we can't believe on coincidences and the patterns one come up with when challenging the dealer. More often then not, it's a rough uphill battle. So, best to ride with backups in case. Of course, not everyone can be satisfied.

What I'm concerned about is this idea, taken straight, kind of draws unfortunate comparisons to the Aegis. After all Shantae has 4 forms compared to latter's 2, and Monkey and Elephant pretty much captures the Blade's dynamic by themselves. You might need to get a little more creative as to exactly what gets changed if you don't want others to see Shantae as an almost direct upgrade of the Aegis's concept.

Alright. So Pyra/Mythra revived Zelda/Sheik's old swap mechanic with Pokemon Trainer.
Pyra is a heavyweight with more launch power and attack damage, but tradeoff is speed and lack of recovery.
Mythra is faster with damage buildup, better recovery and foresight to counter or avoid attacks after dodging. Tradeoff is lack of killing power and lighter then Pyra.

For Shantae, I can piece this.
Her basic moves can derive from her first adventure with the gear.
EcHJv7jXQAIatNr.jpeg
Now, her belly dance for the animal transformations can't be ignored as Pyra/Mythra revived the swap mechanic. Really, the transformations can be like Pokemon Trainer. Different forms for various situations. Now mechanics, the unique aspect is getting harder as more challengers appears with their own. I do think Shantae has one that is unique to her, just mind-boggling after 79th and 80th challenger.

Now, IDK how I can make her unique from the cast of fighters present. But I do know that she is a character with a chance.
1. Female fighter (like the others people are welcoming.)
2. A unique moveset that she has
3. Music tracks and stage with the Arabic touch.
4. Indie games has been through a long journey. (AT for shovel knight and Sans and Cuphead as Mii Costumes.)

The only thing is coroporations discuss while FP2 was in the works will tell if one is in or not. Still, travel with caution and prepare for the worst.

If the recent placeholder code findings are accurate enough, there's only enough room left for 5 more stages, but 6 more fighters, so a bonus might be likely, yeah.

It would have to be for a series that's already present in the game with plenty of content, of course.

So basically, that also means Rayman might be out because of his appearance in Brawlhalla, Dante in PlayStation All-stars (which is dead, but still) and the most obvious, Shovel Knight in Brawlhalla (like Rayman). Shovel Knight is definitely out due to his appearance as an Assist Trophy.

Well, I don't recall Crash Bandicoot starring in any other fighting games and Shantae certainly hasn't either. They are safe.

Actually, I think there's 5 slots left since Pyra/Mythra likely take up 2 slots with them since they're like Zelda/Sheik or Samus/Zero Suit before Sakurai cut them in half.

Actually I haven’t seen evidence that they do; I’d think they only take up one slot since the game loads them in at the same time a la Pokemon trainer. Zelda and Sheik need two WoL slots since they have to be loaded independently due to being completely separate characters now, same as Samus and ZSS. The character numbers are just a detail, actual in game coding recognizes transforming characters as single entities.

I apologize about the small feud, but I remember some sources (can't remember where). For the Monster Hunter character was used for another crossover during FP2 development.
