Sooo... yeah, dunno who's planning on coming when but I'm here if you are. Set-ups would be appreciated, particularly Wiis/Cubes and the games. Right now I have 2 good TVs and a plasma (which will probably have my Xbox or 64), and 1 Wii with Brawl and Melee.

As far as rides, there is a shuttle (the green line) that runs between main campus and loop lofts, but I would be willing to shuttle people to and from my place (particularly if that means a pink princess TV :D).

Right now it doesn't seem like that many people are showing up, but who knows, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised?

The cookies are good. I even burned a few because I thought Corey might like his darker.

Good news!

I made a post about 2 days ago on Craigslist looking for a building to host a "video game tournament" and within an hour I had 2 replies, and I've gotten 2 more in the last day or two as well.

So apparently, finding a venue is easy. So the question is, when do we want to host a Brawl tournament?

You guys should figure out what days / months are best for you and we can figure out when is best for everyone and set a date and I can try to snag a venue and check pricing once we know the date!

Well at least we can agree that the questions shouldn't be:
When do you want to host a 64 tournament?

I've been talking with the Gateway Center ever since Aerial Rave. I can get 10,000 square feet for two days for a national event (Melee and Brawl obviously), including insurance, tables, chairs, and electricity, for about 4,300 dollars.

I would need to pull in 215 people at a 20 dollar venue fee to avoid a financial loss, and the tourney would be late June 2010 or early August. I can get special deals with the hotels around the venue too.

Well?

that's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO expensive...

this is why you don't host at the gateway center...

maybe if we got a huge national tournament... maybe... but i'm not sure that's possible to do here.

Yeah that's kind of a ridiculous idea when none of us have serious experience hosting tournaments (particularly large ones) nor do any of us have noteworthy reputation for hosting tourneys among the smash community at large. Chances are you'd be setting yourself up for a ginormous failure.

Hosting is like an MMO. Start small, earning exp and rep. Once you're a level 80 Death Knight Exalted in every faction including your natural enemies, then you can host a huge national tourney.

At this point, it would be better to host something at like a school, church, community center, hotel, or video game store. Also you should be prepared to incur a financial loss. You usually have to put down a down payment and you never really know how many people will show up. Anyways, tourneys are about having fun, not making money (unless you win).

Yeah most of the places that have responded to me are very "unofficial" so they would probably be cheap. Like random buildings or bars or halls etc. Obviously I'm not planning to host at a huge convention center or anything like that-- I'm not ********.

Lixi - Now? I'm here and ready. EDIT: actually, give me like 30 minutes. I just remembered I lost all my wiimotes so I'm going out to buy another one... so around 4:30 I guess.

Metal - I know, what you're talking about sounds very reasonable.

Daniel - I have extras.

Oh, cool beans, didn't know we were still looking for Venue's Metal, since Jeff caved in and let us run at AR still.

Cool none the less though, lets see what will be better and yadda yadda'.

WashU South Campus Gym at 6501 Clayton Road. Go in the door past the badminton courts, turn left into what looks like a cafeteria area.

It is the perfect tournament venue space.

Unfortunately I have no idea who to contact to use it (I also suspect you have to be a Wash U student).

Host a Brawl & Melee tourney guys! (*boo hiss* SSB64)

Also, don't try and host a national sized tournament before you have the experience and reputation for consistently running small tournaments, then large regional ones. (and have a consistent, sizable player base)

:S Halloween costumes

Yeah, you made walrus faces (but they were actually frowny faces) at me before in this forum and then I made walrus image (which was actually a walrus) at you.

Also we played at TIMS after you took over for Doomshroom. We did a Sheik vs Jiggs on FD and a Jiggs ditto on Mute City and I played really gay both times o.o :[

Hahah, I can't wait till the ripple/zoze matches go up. They haven't seen gay yet. Good job Metal, I don't think I would ever be able to kill that monkey with falco. I still can't get over Ripple's performance in GF, too good.
