Ok, I have finally decided to do something productive with all the irritation I got from Brawl's final production... I'm going to step in and have a go at creating a similar game myself and see how it goes. Next semester, I'll be in my Game Design II class hopefully, and it's a class where you do nothing but create one game as a team of the entire class for the whole semester. I had decided to take on the head of production a while ago since the professor tries and makes it feel like a company environment, but now I know what game we'll make... if I can convince the class to go along with it, which I'm sure I could.
The game will be called Super Smash Bros Duel for the Nintendo DS, it will be a homebrew game, and will probably done with 2D models, might see if 3D models is plausible...
Now the game won't be our only priority during the semester, and we'll only have a semester to really complete it, and not two years exclusively so don't expect something on the level of a true Smash game, but I plan for it to be better than the PSP homebrew Smash game.
I plan to include around 40 characters, maybe 30 stages, plenty of items, some custom game modes, and the game will be able to connect to others and battle against. We'll probably include a classic mode, maybe an all-star mode, don't hold your breath for an adventure mode though. I might also put in an option to place in your own custom characters, stages, and music from your computer like you can on the PSP version, but I'll have to look into it.
More info will be provided when production starts...
As for now, feel free to suggest characters, stages, items, other ideas you would like to share, because unlike Sakurai, I will be building the game off of suggestions from the potential fans. I already have some very unique characters and stages in mind.
