Seeing some speculation based on patents and the second usb-c port on top that a dual screen add on might happen.

What do people think about this?

Running from the cops in Stardust Speedway.
They will probably try to do something new after the Switch 2.

A completely new successor would presumably still be a hybrid since they got rid of their separate divisions.
I was honestly thinking they would do something like that as well. After the Switch 2, it would make sense to make something that is newer in appearance.

So, a lot of people seem to be criticizing the Switch 2 as the death of Nintendo because its lacking creativity.

There's a fair amount of negative press surrounding that. Do you think the Switch 2 will switch because of that?
well in my experience as soon as things change even slightly fans calls something dead. as for creativity my guess is nintendo will continue to make things in the vein of labo and ring fit, giving us game with strange add ons for bizarre experiences. the switch 2 probably won't do as well as 1 but it'll do well enough

Extremely likely:
New 3D Mario
New Smash Bros
New 3D Zelda
New Mario Party
New Kirby
Splatoon 4
New Fire Emblem
New Animal Crossing
Metroid Prime 4 (already confirmed for Switch but most likely will be cross platform like Twilight Princess and BOTW)
New Pokemon
New Ring Fit

Moderately likely:
Xenoblade 4
New 2D Mario
Luigi's Mansion 4
Princess Peach Showtime 2
Another Zelda game with Zelda as the protagonist
Pikmin 5
New DKC
New Yoshi's Island

I think I will also give my predictions and wishlists from first and third party games that I could see getting on to the Switch 2:

First Party:

  • New Super Smash Bros entry
  • New 3D Mario entry
  • New Legend of Zelda entry
  • New Fire Emblem entry
  • New Animal Crossing entry
  • New Splatoon entry
  • New Xenoblade entry
  • Possibly a Switch 2 port of Metroid Prime 4
  • New Pokemon entry

Third Party:

Capcom:

  • Switch 2 ports of the Okami and Onimusha sequel.
  • Street Fighter 6 (containing contents from the first and second season passes)
  • A Devil May Cry 4 or 5 Switch 2 ports?
  • Resident Evil ports
  • Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 port?

Bandai Namco:

  • Tekken 8
  • New Tales of entry.

SEGA:

  • Virtua Fighter 6
  • New Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio and Shinobi getting Switch 2 ports.
  • New Sonic games.

Square-Enix:

  • Possibly see Final Fantasy XVI getting a Switch 2 port.
  • Final Fantasy VII remakes getting Switch 2 port.
  • Kingdom Hearts 4 getting a Switch 2 port.

SNK:

- Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves along with the new Art of Fighting and Samurai Shodown RPG getting Switch 2 ports.

well here's a mix of wants and expectation of mine in regards to first parties

obviously there’s the inevitable franchises: Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Kirby, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, Fire Emblem, Smash Bros, Metroid

I think we have a good shot for a new Donkey Kong and a new Yoshi. I imagine we’ll get a new fitness game. Pikmin is also likely

I hope we get follow ups for Astral Chain and ARMS

As for revivals: Chibi-Robo (maybe once they’ve finished korobo they can get them to do a remaster) Golden Sun, BoxBoy, Pullblox, Rhythm Paradise, Nintendogs. And they should do something with Star Fox

Really the Wii U was the only major sequel console that was a failure, and that was because they gave it a confusing name "U" as a suffix instead of just a number or more descriptive suffix/prefix.
The name wasn't the only reason since they advertised it more as a controller then a new console to the point of several people either wanting just the "tablet" or they bought Wii U games expecting it to work on the Wii. Advertisements was mostly featured kids and sometimes families which obviously didn't work.

The majority player base of the Wii either moved on to smart phones and iPads, kept their Wii or just used the 3DS as a companion device for another console like the PS4 if they wanted to play Nintendo games.
Square-Enix:

  • Possibly see Final Fantasy XVI getting a Switch 2 port.
  • Final Fantasy VII remakes getting Switch 2 port.
  • Kingdom Hearts 4 getting a Switch 2 port.
I hope they actually make ports of the older KH games because Square Enix went with the extremely low effort route of making it not native. The only native KH game on Switch is the Melody of Memory partial spin-off.

Not a technical expert but out of curiosity how possible would a proper (not cloud) port of FF16 & 7 Rebirth be if the 12gb of ram rumors are true. I know well as someone who has been wanting to pick them up on a pc with the same amount of ram that the minimum specs call for 16gb.

They will probably downgraded so it can run like how FF7Remake was on PS4.

I discovered last week that I can use my beanie as a makeshift mousepad for my mouse. In the event that the Switch 2 doesn't launch with a mouse pad (for the rumored Joy-Con mouse function) or Nintendo decides to sell it separately, I think I'll use my beanie if/when I ever get a Switch 2.

Do you not have a regular mousepad?

I hope it'll let me save video clips for more than 30 seconds. Seriously, didn't Nintendo say they would implement longer video clip durations after the feature was added in 2017 on Switch?

You know, if that mouse thing for the Joycon of the Switch 2 is true, who wants a remake of the Japanese only game, Mario and Wario, which used a mouse for gameplay?
I would say I'd be happy if it just got released on NSO but that would likely mean it would be untranslated.

I bet they're working on something for Switch 2 to celebrate Super Mario Bros.' 40th anniversary.
Yeah. We haven't had a new 3D Mario game since Odyssey in 2017 so I think they're working on one right now for the Switch 2's launch along with the new Mario Kart game that was teased in the reveal trailer.

Not too long to go until the Switch 2 Direct, so let’s hear your predictions! For me:
  • New info on Mario Kart
  • Mouse mode demonstration
  • Confirmation that a new Smash game is in development
  • Whatever Sakurai’s new project is (I listed it separately from Smash just in case the project is something else)
  • New Animal Crossing game built around mouse mode
  • Backwards compatibility demonstration (which can also sneak in games like Metroid Prime 4, the leaked Fire Emblem 4 remake, and the leaked Planet Robobot remaster
  • More info on 3rd party support
  • New 3D Mario game built around mouse mode

  • 3D Mario
  • Some sort of "smaller scale" title to showcase the mouse (like 1-2 Switch, probably not tied to any existing IPs)
  • A third other major release to fill whatever gap Mario Kart and the 3D Mario don't fill in the first year (that said, I have zero idea what this title could be, given the circumstances)
Also since when was a Planet Robobot remaster "leaked"? I know about the FE 4 leak, but since when did a Robobot remaster get "leaked"?

  • 100% that there will be further information on Mario Kart for sure.
  • A small teaser of the new entry for Smash Bros, similar to what they did with Ultimate.
  • Anticipate that there will be further information for third party support from the likes of CAPCOM, SEGA, Bandai Namco, Square-Enix, SNK etc.
  • Possible reveal of the next 3D Mario platformer, Legend of Zelda, Fire Emblem etc.
  • Hopefully they will unveil the price of the Switch 2.

My Predictions:
New 3D Mario will be announced
More details on Mario Kart 9 and it will be a launch title
Splatoon 4/Animal Crossing 6
New IP
Either Gamecube or DS support or at least eventually
Games that will get enhanced versions on Switch 2 like Prime 4, TOTK and BOTW
Ports of older games
Smash teaser but only that it exists. If not then it will happen in 2026 like how Ultimate was announced one year after the Switch 1 released.
Price which will probably be $399

I highly doubt we’re getting animal crossing and splatoon at the same time

Good calls - my biggest hope is a new Mario Paint or Mario & Wario (the mouse is just begging for either) - but for actual predictions, I'd guess:
  • Prime 4 mouse aiming support
  • Perhaps a new PictoChat, Flipnote, or Miiverse style app to draw with the mouse and share creations
  • New Mario Maker that takes advantage of mouse support
  • Abandonment of amiibo support (not sure if they'd directly call attention to this - but perhaps this is what the asterisks around backwards compatibility are related to?)

Actually, Amiibo may be back.

Given the success of franchises like Kirby, Metroid, Pikmin, Splatoon, and Xenoblade (just for a few examples) during the Switch's lifespan, what other relatively niche series do you see having the potential to grow during the Switch 2's lifespan?

I think that it's pretty likely we'll get a new Donkey Kong after Metroid Prime 4 comes out. Seeing as Nintendo clearly still values the series and has kept relevant through ports and the theme park expansion, I'd guess the only reason it's been so long since the last DKC is because Retro has been working on Prime 4.

My predictions for first-party content in the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct on April 2nd:
  • Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Full Reveal, set for July 2025. Cross-Gen for Switch 1 & Switch 2.
  • Dedicated Switch 1 segment of the Direct.
    • Metroid Prime 2: Echoes / Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - Releasing digitally straight after the Direct.
    • Kirby: Planet Robobot - Releasing in May 2025.
    • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD - Releasing in July 2025.
  • A formal introduction to Nintendo Switch 2.
  • Mario Kart 9 - Full Reveal, set for June 2025. Showcases new characters and tracks. Launches alongside the Switch 2.
  • A Quirky Launch (probably the play test game) in June 2025.
  • Animal Crossing - A reveal, with a release set for September 2025.
  • Messages from Shigeru Miyamoto, including:
    • The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 - Set for April 2026, with a cast reveal, including Daisy, Toadette, E. Gadd, King Boo, and Bowser Jr. Yoshi is unvoiced.
    • 3D Super Mario - A reveal, with a release set for October 2025.
  • One final announcement.
    • New MonolithSoft IP - Early 2026.

There was playtest game that happened last year, do guys think that it will release for the Switch 2?

It was supposedly mentioned in news articles as an MMO or attempt to it.
