Daisy is the obvious choice here, and the one I was absolutely certain that I would be adding. Impa less so, but I decided I do think she could be a viable Sheik echo fighter after all. Sheik is a vague "sheikah" depiction at this point and the moveset probably just as applicable to Impa as it is toward themselves... which is to say, most of it is made up anyway. I think you could get away with it, and I felt bad that I didn't get to give Zelda anything new. Meanwhile, Richter just makes sense to bring back. He was developed right alongside Simon so it feels a little bit wrong to have one without the other. A true package deal.

For my bonus fighter, I’ll select the character who just missed the base roster, which is Robin. For both passes, my proposed selection will be the following: two veterans and four newcomers, where one of the veterans and one of the newcomers comes from Nintendo. Starting off with my veterans, I decided to go with Rosalina and Sora as Rosalina is a popular character, and the Luma is still a distinct playstyle that missed the initial cut, and Sora was a major request. For my newcomers, Chun-Li and Amy are my supplemental third party characters (Amy is admittedly the indulgent Sonic character on my end). Doom Slayer provides a new third party franchise to the table. For the Nintendo one, I changed my mind to add Noah here, so that I can be more flexible with the second fighter’s pass.

Been at a convention over the last week, so I missed the boat on this round. For posterity, I'm just gonna submit something anyway and prep myself for the next.

My bonus character choice is EMMI, from Metroid Dread. Kind of an oddball, but after Plant I prefer these bonus characters to be something unexpected and off-kilter. I love the unique way that EMMI moves, and I'm compelled by a character who channels the essence of a horror creature equivalent to the Xenomorph. This chillingly emotionless robot who specializes in trapping you into corners. I think it would be insanely cool.

Now for the first Fighter Pass... Banjo and Sora are my choices to return, being two of the most highly requested characters last game. In this premise, they only got snubbed out for licensing conflicts and had no problems returning as DLC. The newcomers are a little bit of everything, starting out the gate with Dante as a flashy fan-favorite choice. He isn't my first choice from Capcom, but I've played the Resident Evil card a few times over now and I'm interested in going a different route. Arle is one constant among my rosters that I'm not as willing to retire though - my most wanted third party character, and part of a classic Sega franchise with longstanding ties to Nintendo and deep influence within its genre.

Master Chief is added to finally give Microsoft its mascot, bring in the first character from a massive genre, and IMO capitalize on what is likely to be a major push for Microsoft's games on Switch 2. I presume Master Chief Collection will be one of those titles and wave away all hesitation about adding this previously Nintendo-absent icon. And The Tarnished adds something more contemporary, plays into the success of Elden Ring and also gives FromSoft and soulslike games their dues, which is heavily warranted by now.

For this fighter’s pass, I decided to instead only add one Nintendo fighter, who is a veteran. Starting with the veterans, Banjo & Kazooie were the other major third party request going into Ultimate, and Sheik was added to provide a long term veteran who missed the initial cut. For my third parties, Sans and Dante are both popular characters, and they have Mii outfits. Tidus helps expand the Final Fantasy selection, but he is admittedly an indulgent choice. Finally, Goro Majima joins the roster as the Yakuza series seems to be overlooked in the speculation scene, and it seems that Sega would be more willing to add Majima than Kiryu.

Sorry, I've been pretty busy so I'm late to the party. If we're cool with retroactively counting my final roster that'd be nice, but I understand either way. Felt like wrapping it up anyway just cuz.

Pretty eclectic group here. Hero and Steve are characters I was remiss to exclude from the start, so they're here now... Microsoft / Square Enix just played hardball for DLC I suppose. Aigis is added as a new Persona character, with Joker remaining absent. I just really like her character archetype, unassuming robot girl who can spawn gatling guns and dangerous missiles at any moment. Persona 3 Remake just came out and Sega continues to treat the series as one of its tentpole IP, so I think it can stay. Hayabusa is an obvious addition provided Koei Tecmo's continued support for Nintendo, and Ninja Gaiden actually has quite the promising future ahead from the looks of it. Zagreus adds another indie character, as Hades seems like a game Nintendo / Sakurai are somewhat invested in and feels to me like a really compelling surprise. And we round out with a Valve character - Chell from Portal, whose unique moveset design would be undeniable and whose series actually has a Switch presence now. Portal always felt the most "Nintendo-y" of the Valve games to me due to its strange, innovative puzzle design and I think it would be a very flavorful addition to the world of Smash.

Figured this time I'll try to push things in a different direction. One character per series, and a third party focus right out the gate. I tried to choose a healthy variety of third party picks across genres, from series with a wealth of characters to build a foundation upon. And Pac-Man. On the Nintendo side, most of their biggest mascots and IP. Pikmin got snubbed here but given how specialized it is, I think that's fitting for a bit of a quirky later-on addition.
