You could easily have a fun "Dragon Slayer" event where you play as Marth and you have to fight Bowser followed by a Giant Charizard and then finally a Giant-Giant Ridley. Epic.

Good that you brang that up actually..so what you guys think of Ridley + Super mushroom?
Should he be the only char that doesnt benefit from them? (not turn him big)

Maybe only on Temple hyrule.

No reason that he shouldn't be affected by it, if he's scaled to a reasonable size like Bowser it should be the same result. I don't see how that'd ever be an issue.

I'm hoping, but for some reason Ridley has always screamed of unlockable character to me, probably because Wolf and Ganondorf are unlockables. They could reveal him in the trailer if they want massive hype though, but I almost expect K. Rool to be announced, and then wait with Ridley 'till later, whether it'll be as an unlockable or just a Dojo announcement.

I think most of us are. Like you said earlier, Ridley is one of last few big names left that can generate large amounts of hype.

Well... if K.Rool is more popular worldwide (read: Japan) then he might get the early reveal instead, and I don't think they'd reveal both K.Rool and Ridley.

I'm trying to not predict too much and get my hopes up... I'll just let myself be surprised. All the same, I don't actually think Ridley will be revealed.

Not to mention... there's a terrifying chance that they won't actually reveal anyone and instead just talk about other features and show gameplay with old characters. It'd be weird, but it's possible.

During a glide: Spreads his wings. Stops the glide and creates a sonic boom whose size and power depends on how long the glide was before it was canceled.

You could probably say the unlockable Ridley is most comparable to is Mewtwo. He's a big name and very popular, but is hidden away to have at least one big surprise kept from you. Not sure how I feel about the "cinematic quality" point, though. The Brawl trailer heavily featured Wario and his fart powers... K.Rool has at least as much screen presence and seriousness as Wario.

Basically, any newcomer in the trailer is going to be a huge selling point for the game. They're going to be the biggest of the big, the characters that we'll be seeing in promotional material for months on end, on the cover art, and on the starting roster (if they're first party). Ridley is one of the few characters who can generate hype in trailer viewers, regardless of whether or not they know the character, simply because his dragon archetype screams 'play as me.' I'm sure the SSB4 team could design a compelling K. Rool or Mewtwo trailer reveal if they tried, but there's virtually no way they could show Ridley in a trailer and -not- have it be awe-inspiring...unless it's Evolving Other M Ridley, that is.

I am fully expecting Ridley, Takamaru, Palutena and Little Mac to show up in the trailer. I have a hard time seeing any other Nintendo characters to be at E3 to be honest.

When I mentioned Wolf and Ganondorf I was thinking it's because they're both main villains, but of course the moveset argument works better than that. I don't think K. Rool and Ridley resemble Bowser and Charizard enough to be affected by that though, especially when considering they'll undoubtedly have quite the different moveset. Still, if Ridley isn't in the trailer I think it's a given that he'll either be an unlockable or won't be in the game at all, if they don't use him to generate hype at the trailer, then there'll be a reason for it.

That's true, I've actually never really taken notice of the fact that unlockables are usually clones/semi-clones or lesser known characters, despite having played the games for nearly a decade. Wow. Btw, Ice Climbers have never been unlockables, they've always been starters, which just strengthens your argument.

I think the only unlockable characters that aren't clones and are well known/wanted characters are Lucario, Mewtwo, Sonic and Snake, where two of these are 3rd party characters.

I mean, Marth, G&W and R.O.B weren't exactly well known or much wanted characters at their time, and well known characters like Luigi and Ganondorf are semi-clones.

Interestingly Ridley is the number one Nintendo newcomer by technically according to the latest poll. Mewtwo is number one overall (returning from Melee) and Megaman is number 2 (third party)

I don't really care that much about who is a starter or hidden character, other than we know all of the former and few of the latter at the game's release.

Although characters in the latter category tend to be clones/semi-clones (Luigi, Dr. Mario, Ganondorf, Falco, Roy, Pichu, Young Link, Toon Link, Ness, and Wolf), the less marketable "WTF?"/not too well known characters (see: Jigglypuff, Captain Falcon, Ness, Marth, Roy, Mr. Game & Watch, R.O.B.), and the third party characters (obviously).

Mewtwo and Lucario seem to be the only exceptions to these rules IMO, but everyone knew they were gonna be playable.

Well, in the scenario that Ridley's not in the trailer for whatever reason, we definitely shouldn't give up on hope that he's playable. Character hype does need to continue on into the DOJO phase of pre-SSB4, after all.

meh, I'm probably going to stop following the rouster so much after E3 just so I get really suprised who gets in when I play it. I did that with every game so far, so...

I think Ridley would be a late revealed character. He seems like the type who works best that way, much like Captain Olimar was.

I think that Ridley should take on a squat/feral/prone stance in combat, reminiscent of my main man in my profile picture. It'd help with a number of factors, such as scaling, grab detection and hitboxes. And the "he's too big" argument would become null and void. He'd still be big, but his stance would be low and therefore on par with the rest of the cast.
