Thoughts on the direct
  • I can’t believe they actually found a way to make Mario Kart open world. I can’t even ignore it because you have to drive from track to track in Grand Prix. I hope that’s something you can turn off but knowing Nintendo it won’t be.
  • The c button actually being for a chat and social features is lame. Like it’s the first thing everyone thought of and that made me think it wouldn’t be that. The social features are… neat I suppose but just allowing the switch to integrate with discord would have accomplished the same thing.
  • oh they brought back game share from the ds. Cool.
  • Specs. Will make Arlos happy but I don’t really care. All this graphical stuff isn’t really needed. Magnet joycons are gonna be a problem though. I want something real holding them in place. I don’t trust invisible forces. I barely trust gravity.
  • oh the mouse was real. Neat.
  • don’t people hate usbc now? Why are they still using it? The two ports are cool.
  • So now I won’t need to buy a micro sad card for a little bit longer lol.
  • Now what games aren’t gonna be compatible. List them!
  • Oh is this the secret beta test game thing?
  • Not as fun an idea as Astro’s Playroom?
  • Please let the system transfer have Pikmin.
  • June 5th…. Idk how soon I will buy one. I need to math it to see if I can afford it.
  • Switch 2 Editions are real. This better not cost much to upgrade.
  • Kirby has exclusive story stuff? That’s not fair. Did this story pack need to be a switch 2 exclusive.
  • I’m regretting watching Arlo’s live reaction stream cause some of his reactions, especially to the graphics stuff in Zelda and Metroid, is getting really annoying.
  • WTF in the arms sports tech demo hell is this (said in a Hank Hill impression)… this thing is gonna get in Smash isn’t it.
  • Elden Ring. Neat. Another annoying Arlo reaction. I’m generally not annoyed with this man on stream. What is going on today?
  • Hades 2. Whatever. Feels like a Microsoft presentation now.
  • Street Fighter 6. I mean neat but I’m not spending all that money again.
  • Demon x Machina 2. Neat.
  • Does anyone actually like Split Fiction?
  • Of course there’s EA sports stuff.
  • Ew! The transphobe game! hiss
  • Nintendo Switch 2! You know Tony Hawk!?!
  • Hitman. Neat. Are any of these gonna be more than neat.
  • Oh cool. A new 007 game coming to switch. Feels like Goldeneye again.
  • bravely default. Again. Neat.
  • Yakuza. Neat.
  • When are they gonna get away from Breath of the freakin Wild.
  • GameCube NSO. Neat. We get link in SolCal back. But I guess this means we can kiss the hd wind waker goodbye.
  • Deltarune. Cool.
  • Borderlands. Ok. Whatever.
  • Civ 7. Ok. Whatever.
  • Who cares about WWE 2K?
  • Starseeker. Don’t know. Don’t care.
  • cyberpunk. Why? Didn’t everyone hate that game?
  • FF7RI. Cool. I’ll buy it here instead of on Steam. Hopefully Rebirtn comes too.
  • sizzle real. Whatever.
  • A new fromsoft game. Whatever.
  • ok I can’t deny that some of this stuff is gonna be some people’s favorite things. But a lot of this stuff is stuff I don’t care about at all. Again, feels like I’m in a Sony or Microsoft presentation. And Arlo FromSoft-gasming isn’t helping.
  • Sakurai is making Air Ride 2. Cool. Get ready for a Kirby game with nothing from the modern titles in it.
  • New donkey kong! Wait what!?! Oh it’s 3D… and in the new art style. God this feels like a real monkey’s paw situation. Just show me Diddy. Show me the other characters. Come on please!
  • Expresso!?!
  • That’s not K. Rool.
  • Interested in hearing DK Vine’s take. But man. This looks exactly like what I feared. A a DK game that is just a Mario game with DK flourishes
So yeah my opinions were… mixed…

Honestly…that was a little mid. The new stuff they showed was dope but they didn’t show enough of it. We didn’t even get a holiday title!

I think another direct is coming soon.

Wow, I expected much more than that. Really underwhelming. Most of it was just 3rd party ports and we didn't get a price. The 1st party games were cool, but all we got were 2 racing games (that still look very good don't get me wrong) with one not even having gameplay, a 3D DK which is cool, a couple of tech demos, and a bunch of updated Switch games.

That DK game actually looks really fun but man I'm not super fond of the new art style.

Anyway I think I'm probably not picking up this system at launch. My wallet is tight right now and while that Mario Kart looks fantastic but nothing else they showed really feels like a Day 1 must have for me.

Come to think of it, we had those rumors awhile back the odyssey team were making a new DK game. Maybe that was true after all.

Honestly, Overall I am just whelmed

A Lot of great individual announcements, but I feel no need to spend 400-600 dollars* right away.

*We have no clue of the price, but I am American so who the **** knows what is happening here anymore with prices.

Only launch game is Mario Kart for first party, mostly third party titles also not all at launch, no price, no 3D Mario?

Release is also in June, yeah we 100% get the E3 timeframe direct to fill out the rest of the year.

Real question is, what do they show at treehouse now besides Mario kart and Donkey Kong?

Hardware showcase looked good. Feels like a new Nintendo bringing up 120 fps and HDR. Looks like Switch has also entered the game of offering performance and visuals mode.

The only thing I'm really disappointed by is that there was essentially no mention of Sonic. Like, at all. (Unless I missed something...)

I don't wanna seem like one of Those People, but it's just odd that there was no mention of new Sonic content that could be available on the console at this point.

Though I'm assuming the Adventure games and maybe Heroes will become available through Gamecube Online in the future. Question is when...

I dunno Donkey Kong looks good to me, it's "Mario-Like" because it's made my in-house Nintendo. But him being a more aggro character than Mario should make it feel different enough.

Thats kind of rough ngl.

I’ll be taking advantage of GameStop’s trade in bonus and putting that towards the console day one. At least that way I won’t be spending anywhere near this amount on the console.

I would get a Switch 2 just for 120FPS MP4 but then I remembered I don't have a 120hz TV.

Oh well the 60FPS mode is probably still smoother than the Switch 1 version anyway
