Personally, I feel that Shovel Knight was made an Assist Trophy as “the” indie. While there are other Indies that have reasonable popularity, even though he didn’t exactly make a huge splash in Japan, I firmly believe Shovel Knight would be the one becoming playable.

Granted, i’ve never played Shantae or most other indies. But I also am not entirely drawn to Shantae either.

I may play Undertale though.

I really reccomend it. It’s a great game. Not perfect by any means, but very good. They made a spin off called Deltarune., and it’s free. I reccomend playing that first to get a feel for Undertale before you buy it.

Goodnight.
I’m off to dream of fetishised Mewtwos, which were forced upon me by Google.

If we judge by popularity and connection with Nintendo, only 3 indies come to mind, these being: Shovel Knight, Shantae and Cave Story. If any indie should be represented in Smash it has to be one of the 3. They're the closest indie titles to Nintendo and are pretty popular too. Shantae has been with Nintendo the longest, and has quite the following, but nothing too big. Shovel Knight is the most recent of the 3 and has a fairly big following, at least here on the west. Cave Story was very popular back in the day, and Quote was considered the poster boy of Indie games, before being replaced by Shovel Knight. All 3 of them have been getting a lot of love nowadays, appearing as cameos in Indie focused titles such as Blade Strangers, Indie Pogo, etc. I also find interesting how each of the most popular indies can be seen as the indie counterpart of a bigger franchise.

Shovel Knight - Ducktales
Shantae - Mario
Cave Story - Metroid
Gunvolt - Mega Man
Freedom Planet - Sonic
Undertale - Earthbound/Mother
Jack the Reaper - Kirby

Maybe one day they will unite and form the Nintendo counterpart of indie games, would be really cool.

I'm studying game design so I can make my own Indie game one day. I've been writing stories and creating characters ever since I was 8. Programming is tough, but I'm determined to learn it and make my project real one day.
I feel the same, I want to create an Indie game too some day...

I studied product design, and in my university there were a couple of game design exams that you could choose.
I obvioulsy did both of them... one was about board gaming, and it went very well, while the video game one (in collaboration with computer science) didn't go very well because my team was not much interested in the project and the programmers did a very rushed and messy work... Anyway, after the exam I decided to program a game by myself (2D platformer in Unity), but I'm going veeery slow... in 3 years I only made the collisions work, because I don't have enough time to work on it (though the small piece of code I did so far is solid and optimized enough I think - also I programmed the collisions from scratch with raycast, I didn't use the rigidbody prefabs).
When I'll have some time I want to continue and maybe join some game jams to work with other people too.

I also joined another team for another project in the past but all I have done is the 3D model of 3 race tracks for a kart game (another university project were I was not involved, the group just contacted me for some help).

Also, instead of writing stories and creating characters, I have filled many old diaries with sketches of level design for 2D platformers, I always wanted to create one myself.

I too wish to become a game designer! I've been a gamer for practically all of my life, and I hope to one day be able to make games of my own.
I have a lot of ideas, such as a post-apocalyptic action platformer similar to titles like Mega Man and Contra.

Everyone is talking about games they want to make, while I am here thinking:
do they need voice acting?
Maybe... probably sometime in the future... for now the game doesn't even exist.
This is the sprite I'm using for the character, static (no animations) and stolen from Google

I swear, I have to moderate a discord, and this guy starts spamming bots, I had to ask him 2-3 times, he still didn’t stop, and now he is posting NSFW content on a PG-13 server.

Thanks for all the trouble buddy.

Best of luck to you guys, I understand what you're going through. Most people give up very early due to how hard it is just to learn how to code properly. But I have some friends that worked on quite a few games and they said that once you get the hang of it, coding becomes the least of your problems. Apparently the biggest hurdle for making a game is dedication. That's why working in a small group tends to be better, since you always have someone to support you while you work hard to make the game a possibility.

Discord really needs a server block feature for moderating.

How about you all tried working together on the project?
That's a nice idea and I would do it, but I can't now, because I'm working full time (+ time spent in train) and I don't have enough time to also work on the game.
I'd definitely love to do it in the future.

I just banned him from the server.
Spirit Events are lame, if they're going to keep doing them add more limited-time ones like they for the Mario event so I feel incentive to play.
I do feel they should add more limited time ones, yeah.

It's questions like this that reminds me that I'm a millennial...

will not listen until is February (while I’m marathoning through the show)
That stupid plant is about as unique as Falcondorf and Dark Pit if you ask me
so...extremely unique

I can only try. Sometimes one gets blinded when they like a character they want to protect so much. I'm not sure I'm quite there just yet.

The main reason why I question it is because of some of the things says, especially the "sensitive wing" topic she brought up, might be a bit far, especially when she sides with Hades when poking fun at his wings, I think. Back then though, I was one who liked the dialogue, until I was shown that things do seem unfair on Pit's side. I easily do remember that depressed state (especially since Pit's the only strong soldier she has in her army). Food's decent at least, not counting the anime ones.

Meh, that's Viridi being Viridi, and she's lucky she's a Goddess talking to an angel that way. I honestly don't know what else to say in this regard, though I recall talking to someone quite some time ago wondering what Pit would if he was able to fly on his own, or if he was pushed too far by his boss.
(I hope you don't mind the back to back convo on that KI topic btw)
I like to assume Palutena acts the way she does is because she knows he can handle it...and because it was likely how she was like when Medusa was her friend. Once that went downhill she went into a broken and lonely state of mind. Add that with a possible touch of PTSD (Chaos Kin), and you got yourself a goddess who’s hiding her true feelings (without Pit to look at or talk to) who is only happy when by Pit’s side (take the “you need to make some friends” comment she made at the end of chapter 4 as some sort of unintended clue if you want)

If Pit could fly and Palutena pushed him too far, he’d probably just quit on her...never speaking or talking to her again unless something massive happened
oh boy oh boy here we go again

bravely default costumes would break my heart but the "Seamless!" pun is so Sakurai/miiverse that it kind of makes me think
no Rainbow Road...instantly against this rumor

I absolutely love the NES since it marked so much of my childhood, so I plan on making a short 8-bit NES inspired game for my first project. And by 8-bit I mean actual 8-bit, as in with the same types of limitations. I hate going through game review sites or Steam and seeing people wrongly labeling games as 8-bit when they look like something made in MS Paint without any actual effort. People nowadays seem to not know what a real Retro styled game is.

If this was a GB styled game, I could fit Voice Acting in there. xD
Doesn’t bit chipping allow for voice acting? Like Pikachu In Pokémon Yellow?

The NES and Game Boy can play voice clips like that naturally. It's just rare because it'd either take up too much space or sound awful.

Man, I love the fact that so many people here are serious about game design.

I might go that same route, but for now, I’m just sticking with computer science in general instead of specializing in a specific area.

Love is bull****. I don't know if that's because I'm a broken individual, hurt too much, or both.
Sorry to hear that. I hope things get better for you.

I can sorta relate. I have high functioning autism, plus a severe speech impediment. If you need someone to talk to, my PMs are always open.

OK, here's an idea. You get stage builder- a good one- but lose your 3 favorite stages. Would you do it?
