Well Nintendo said that they're selling Wii's for a profit straight away, so going by that, it wouldn't cost them as much to make as what they're selling it for. Unless it's only the Wii (as in, the console itself and nothing else that comes with the package) that they're selling for a profit.

I would assume it's the latter, because I highly doubt that such a complex piece of technology would cost less than $50 US to manufacture.

Because people are LAZY>.<

I hate Wii points. It's like another currency thathas the exact same value as the American dollar, exact you have to pay tax when you exchange for it, you can't go back to the dollar, and it can only be spent online one location. Given, it eliminates a credit card transaction, but its still annoying. THey could have at least made the points system different from basically saying 1 Wii point==1 cent U.S.

Why? The Microsoft points use some kind of messed up conversion, and people don't seem to like not knowing how much stuff is worth.

What are you talking about, ChRed? 1 Wii Point = 1 US Cent makes things a whole lot easier. You can calculate how much actual money something will cost almost instantly.

And using Wii Points instead of actual currency makes alot more sense too, because alot of people don't have access to credit cards... or willing parents. Just being able to go to the store and picking up a card with points on it makes things alot easier.

Also, I am sad for all of you people who have sales tax.

But not that sad.

I <3 alaska.

All the people adding up the price of the Wii, remember, it comes with a controller, so you don't have to spend $240 for controllers, but rather $180.

Stores cannot charge you tax on Wii Points, Xbox Live Marketplace points, etc.

Whenever I go down to GameStop and pick up some Marketplace points for my 360 I get a penny back when I hand them a twenty dollar bill. I really just wish they'd have the points card cost $20 instead of $19.99 so I don't have that **** penny in my pocket afterwards.

Why don't you drop the penny at a random location in the mall for someone to find and have good luck all day?

Pennies are nice. I can trade them in at Valley National Bank's Cool Coin Machine! :p
Either way, Wii points being equal is nice and all, but I have to wonder what other regions' rates are going to be...

This thread went off topic crazy style for a good page here....effin' pennies.

And jeah, I thought of an error in my calculations on page 283 last night after I was bed-bound. Got up and fixed it, then realized that I missed a DIFFERENT error.

So, subtract a good 65 dollars or so from mine.

(OFF TOPIC)

I'm going to be getting a free PS3 or 360. Here's the thread and gimme an opinion:

The upside to a penny a point is that no matter where the economy goes, the gamers win. If the US dollar is worth more, we can use this to buy Wii games. If the value of the dollar decreases, who cares? You've got money stored up in VC points.

Sorry to bring it back to the pennies, but when you're a poor college student with no reliable source of income, every penny counts. Seriously. I pick up pennies on the friggin' street; that's how strapped for cash I am. . .and trust me, pennies add up.

Back on topic though--I don't really care how you compare the Wii to the PS3/Xbox 360 in terms of pricing; shelling out $250 for what generally amounts to a "Gamecube 1.5" simply seems odd to me. Heck, I'd be more willing to accept that pricepoint if the controllers weren't so darn expensive. . .I don't see how I can buy multiple controllers to get my bro and his wife to play when Wiimotes are $40 a pop.

. . .meh. In the end, I'm just gonna have to shell out the cash, tighten my belt, and hope that starvation isn't as bad as people make it out to be.

That's true, but I suppose money is getting less valuable as well. In the end, I'll pay more for innovation than I will for powerful components. This will be the only console launch to ever start with a profit - I wonder how that will come back into our pockets in the future, if ever. I guess online is free, but it's so basic...

Well, when you consider all of the different things you can access using the free online on the Wii, it's not really so basic. There's the weather, news, and multiplayer, and(yeah these cost money, but still) the internet browser and VC games. Hopefully Nintendo will come out with occasional free online downloads with the purchase of certain games.

My only concern is that in the past (GameCube), online support was seriously lacking while Sony and Microsoft plowed ahead. Online play is extremely important to me, and none of the launch games have it at all just yet. Nintendo can't aford to go another generation without some online play.

I'm wondering about one thing.

The Opera browser is free to download till like June or something, but does it cost money to use after that?

I meant use, not download.

Does it cost money to use it? Even if you already have it downloaded?

I'm pretty sure that the Opera Browser is a free DL til June, but after that, it costs N Wii points. It's still free to use if you have it, though.

To whomever addressed the Wii online thing: Look at the DS online scene. While it's not perfect (no where near Xbox's), it's not a shotty first attempt. I assume Nintendo's learned from their mistakes, at least a little, and will correct some of their wrongs.

The first online game will be that Pokemon game for Japan in December. There aren't any games I really would like to play online ATM anyways, save possibly Red Steel.

And Excite Truck. That looks cool too.

ii means good in japan.
W is two u's.
Wee is "yes" in french.
Plus Wii is kinda funny to say.
Putting the name together should say "yes, you and you having fun is good".
Behold the genius of Nintendo.
Although the English definition is a little different....

Nintendo really needs to start advertising, I swear more than half the people in my school don't know what a Wii is.

EDIT: I tried editing my sig out after realizing that I haden't typed enough, but I couldn't findo out how. Anywho, maybe I typed enough now anyways.

Osco EDIT: As a sidenote, to turn off your sig after you post just hit "Go Advanced" from the edit menu. From the new screen you'll be able to uncheck "Post Signature" or whatever the option is called

The majority of gamers are adults, and I don't expect Nintendo to go all "Wal-Mart" on us three weeks before Wii launch day.
