Ack! I posted this and it was entirely too late.

Primus....sadly, I think there are not any stores taking mroe preorders. You're probably gonna need to camp if you really REALLY must have one on launch.

Apple, you can camp in Walmart. I don't think they care.

Echo...is that how Walmart does things now, with the tickets and near-lottery system? Do you happen to know if they're doing that for the PS3? If so, then maybe I shouldn't camp out for one.

Forblaze, I was actually wondering the same thing about the GC controllers and such. Whatever happened to the whole 'flipping the Wii remote on it's side' tihng? It looks almost identical to a NES controller...why wouldn't they just implement that? Greed?

.26 seconds is about average, .22 is great. It's extremely good if somebody can get under .2 consistently. Gamers are generally tuned to have faster reflexes, but the difference isn't quite as extreme as what you stated (fastest possible may be near .16, but the vast majority of people are lucky to get an average of 5 under .23) . You can test it yourself; there are tons of reflex tester flash programs on the web (for example, here).

(Sorry this is regarding a post from mildly far back in the topic, but I just wanted to add this)
Yeah, that's true, but I've seen some absurdly fast people, and I made one of them take a similar test - He scored a .15 - Ridiculously good reaction times. On the same test, I got a .18 as my best score, but I averaged .19 to .21. (This test was where a green dot flashed on the screen in the same location every time, and you had to click it. I like that more since the down key takes slower to depress than does your mouse click).

Yeah, for the PS3 and the Wii both... though that is MY Wal-Mart... I live in a 30k person town so it might not be as big of a thing as a much larger one... so I'd recommend checking with the electronics people wherever you are. But yeah I'll probably go in at like 8pm or somethin, and try to get a number and whatever then just kill time until midnight. From the sounds of it they say they're going to have many more Wii's than PS3s... so I'm not all too worried about it.

If they let you bring a chair is isn't so bad. I waited four hours for the 360, just read a book and played Call of Duty 2 the whole time. There was also a little kid, about 8-10, there whose mom was buying him the 360 and a game, and planned on buying more consoles for him. Lucky kid.

vjgyo, are you giving the second Wii to the winner?

I know that when my Wal-Mart was having a sale on $400 laptops, they used the lottery system.

As for Wii availability? It's hard to say, I live in a town of 19,000; they may sell like hot-cakes, or they might just sell rapidly. Who knows?

Yeah, I too was wondering about the "Wii remote on its side" thing as an NES controller; that was an excellent idea...and now? Nothing.

Ahh well, I'll probably use the Gamecube controller for playing N64 games (SSB with the Gamecube controller? Nice!) and the classic controller for NES and SNES games.

I don't wanna use my GC controller for Sonic the Hedgehog, dammit. I want to use the Wii remote.

EFF!

And Primus, the way you said it made it sound like you were going to get there so early it would be the day before or something.

It sounded like you were saying 'I'm not gonna camp, but I'm going to wait for 2 days!' I thought you were making a joke, so I laughed.

I just played the Wii again recently at my local EBgames, and i have to tell you,the controls for the Wii's aiming mechanism is very smooth, not to mention that you can calibrate our Wii's pointer to your desire. The game i was exite truck, the tilt controls were well thought through.Simple..yet unique and still difficult.

It'll win you over, be it by charm or by roofies.

I live in England. Does anyone know if I can buy an American Wii and bring it back with me and have it work with all the discs here? Assuming I used a different power cable, that is.

Yeah, it's called importing. :) The discs won't work however due to region codes. This has never changed region to region on 99% of all consoles ever released. I don't know why the Wii would be any different....

I doubt all the numbers are accurate, but it should give a general idea of how many Wiis certain stores are getting.

According the RocketTrainer's find (+rep 4 j00!), my Target is getting 60 (unconfirmed, but oh well). I don't think I'll have a big problem finding one, and if the kids at my school are any indication (lawl, t3h Wii. Datz ghey. PS3 is liek da best syzdem ever!--you know, that kinda thing), there shouldn't be a huge line. I'm still going at 4AM; it opens at 8.

I was telling my friend how thousands of people in Japan camped out for PS3's, and he randomly decided we should camp out for a Wii, just because it'd be fun and give us guys a guys' night out (we're often barred down by friends of ours of the female persuasion that seem to constantly need us around, it gets tiring), so who knows? I may very well camp out myself, despite hating the idea--but with a bunch of goofballs, it would be fun.
The Wal Mart and EB Gamea around here are getting 53 and 24 Wiis, respectively...Or at least, that's the estimation.

Those are pretty good chances considering I live relatively out in the middle of nowhere.

I actually had a ton of fun when I camped out. We played 8 player MKDS and 16 people pictochat, it was pretty smutty rofl

But yeah, hope that the people in line beside you are interesting, because you'll be talking to them a lot

Hmm. I have a 70 Wii Target, a 53 Wii Walmart, and 3 EBs with ~24 each. I might snag one on launch day!
Anyone wonder why Target seems to have such a massive selection?

For those of you in the New York area, Nintendo World Store is opening at 8 AM on launch day. . .which is disappointing, really, since that means if I want to be first, I really do have to spend overnight there instead of just lining up early in the morning if it was a midnight launch. Grrr.

So, how early should I go there? And is anyone else planning on lining up at Nintendo World early?

I'm thinking it's because each chain get a certain number of Wiis, and each chain tries to distrubute the Wiis based on location and traffic. Where I live, there's only 3 Wal-Marts, 2 Targets, and like 7-8 EBgames/Gamestop stores that are within 5-10 minutes or so. That's why each of the Target's near me gets 60 or so Wiis, while each EB/Gamestop gets like 15 or so each. Less stores in an area = each store having more Wiis. Target does seem to be pimping out the Wii more, already selling some accessories and whatnot...

The only thing about Target and Wal-Mart is that you will need to camp out if you want one, where GS/EB you don't if you have a reserve. Think of it as a tradeoff.

Only 3 Wal-Marts, 2 Targets, and 7-8 EBGames/Gamestops? That's like saying "there's only about 1,000,000 pieces to this Lego set".

Anyway, according to where I live, my Wal-Mart is supposed to get 53 Wii's. Not bad, considering it's a hole in the wall.

I went down to Babages (part of GameStop) to try out the Wii (and pick up Company of Heroes, which kicks ***). I can confidently say there's zero lag - at least in the accelerometers. The only game they had was Excite Truck, which was actually more fun than the videos make it look (it just about compensates for the bad graphics - Shame, Nintendo, even the modest GCN can do better than that). Also, the controller is more perfect than I could have imagined. It's light as hell, and fits perfectly in my hand. The accelerometers are also very sensitive. I saw a lot of people tilting it on it's side and over steering, but with slight tilts, you can actually maintain control (and I got 1stplace on my only attempt, while many other suckers got 5th and 6th ;))

So, basically, I still disapprove of how hardware launches go these days.

Why?

This is why.

A tidbit to catch your interest in this noteworthy article:

This is the true face of the PlayStation 3 debut in Japan. Hardcore gamers are not here waiting in line overnight, buying a first-run PS3, and running home to play some good old next-gen gaming. Rather, opportunistic Japanese businessmen have the largest presence, hiring poor Chinese men and women to wait in line for a PS3, one which will later be sold on web auctions to wealthy gamers around the world for exorbitant amounts of money.
And when you looked back at all the people pre-ordering PS3's last month? Yea, at least HALF of them openly admitted, "eBay."

It's a dark side to the industry, or rather, the customers.
And yea, it's sad when people will SPEND those amounts of money that get charged, but I think it's far more disgusting that people will rob others of something they love all for their own selfish gain.

We live in a captilistic country, Destiny. It's just the way things go.

Wow...every Walmart in this whole effin' city is getting 53, while every EB games is getting 24. BestBuy is getting 96....wtf?

Did you look on Ebay for the X360 when it was first released? They easily sold for over $900 a piece. Why does the PS3 matter so much now?

^^^

I'm assuming you're asking DS what his big deal with the PS3 eBay auctions is? I don't think it's got anything to do with the PS3. I think he's just commenting on the fact that it's a sick society.

The PS3 is in his analogy because it happens to be coming out.

Yeah I figured as much. I'm just using a slightly older reference. Agreed, it is sick when people buy the PS3 just to resell it.

The problem isn't the ridiculous price they're resold for - If you're stupid and impatient enough to pay that, by all means, throw your cash into a blender - It's that these consoles are being taken away from the real devoted fans. It sucks, but it's just another trademark of console launches.

Ugh I already waited in line all morning to get a reservation but failed. 19 Wii's at Toys R Us and I was 25th in line. And I thought I had a good chance because about 1/3 of the people left to get in the Tickle Me Elmo reservation line instead.

All I did was SEE the Wii today at EBGames. It's so itty bitty...

Stryks, if your WalMart is open 24 hours, then it should be selling at 12 AM. That only makes sense. As to what time you need to line up, I haven't a clue. Depends on a lot of things...mainly how many Wii's your WalMart will be getting and the kind of people who live around that area.
