i agree with malestrom, its more then camping out and getting a wii, its almost an honorable thing to camp out, the longer you camp the stronger your drive for what you want, in this case a nintendo wii. think about it, how much credit do you give the guy who was there like 5 days in advance, he's probably the biggest no life loser ever but he's the best at doing what he dose and if he can stay out there that long waiting for this system then he should be recognized for doing so.

how big is the demand for PS3? i figured with all the features and price of the Wii compared to the features and price of the PS3, sony wouldn't even be able to come out with a next generation game system, all the forums and different videos show how much better the Wii is compaired to PS3 but i hear and see a surprising ammount of people who appreciate PS3, some even more then the Wii. if your a PS3 guy, tell me whats so ammazing about it compaired to the WII, and don't say blue light disk or w/e it is cuz thats just a gimik(spell) to sell it, i mean its like 700 bucks or something right?

oh and 1 last thing, at first i herd that you'll only get the consol, everything you need to hook it up and 1 controller, but then i herd later that the nunchuck is going to be included in the package aswell. dose anyone know for a fact if the nunchuck is included or not, if so do you have any concrete links about the subject?

The package includes Wii Sports, everything to hook it up, the console, the sensor bar and a full controller. Meaning the remote part and a nunchaku.

Meaning, Zelda really is only 50$, not 50 + 20.

[Edit:]

The best thing about the PS3 at this point is the ability for it to play PS2 games. I say that not because I dislike Sony, but just because it's the truth.

yeah, the wii and the ps3 have a lot of similar features, using the controllers from the previous system, playing previous system games, idk too much about the ps3 but i'm sure you can use the memory cards from the previous system, same as wii. i herd that the ps3 also tried to add in some motion sensor capabilities after the wii had them. idk who copied the other with the previous system compatability but when ps3 copied the motion sensor, they went too far. i think anyone who is willing to pay 700 bucks is either an extream ps2 guy or a spoiled rich kid who wants it and hasn't looked into the wii and all the games and cool features compaired to the ps3.

What's better about the PS3? Just power, which alot of people really appreciate. I do too.

However, most people buy consoles for the games. People like more games on the PS3 than the the Wii, so they'll buy the PS3 if they have the money, with the added bonus of HD support. Not to say I'm getting a PS3, i'm just pointing out a reason for getting one. It's pretty much teh same reason for the 360. Hell, if I had the money, I'd buy a 360. Oblivion, Halo 3, blue dragon, etc.

The PS3 does not use any of the past PlayStation controllers. It uses the SIXAXIS, that's it. It also does not use the old memory cards used for PS1 and PS2. The SIXAXIS controller is nothing nearly as advanced as the Wii controller, it's not even worth saying Sony copied Nintendo.

Correction, Cashed. It doesn't DIRECTLY use the PS1/2 memory cards. It does however make it easy to move the memory from these cards to the PS3's harddrive.

Yea, too bad HALF of the people who camp out for systems aren't doing it to get the system early but to friggin' anal **** someone on eBay. And even for those who don't, yea, that's great that they have dedication, but they shouldn't HAVE to do that. It's ridiculous. They're already paying money for the thing. That should be enough as is.

Truth is it's not, which is a shame. And if I can't get a Wii before Thanksgiving (or Christmas, for that matter) because I'm not going to waste time and stoop down to the level of camping in a parking lot, then I'll be sorely disappointed with the console launch.

Once I get one, though, I'll be inclined not to care so much...
I just think it'd be wise of Nintendo to have enough supply to meet demand this holiday, because they're bound to get more demand later once people start to use the thing.

I'll say one thing about the controller I'm worried about--delay.
Have you seen it in videos?
It looks like there's delay in the controller, and that's a bit of a problem.
It may just be the circumstances of where it was being played.
So long as it doesn't happen in homes, etc.

I'm in economics class in highschool, so if anyone's taking it above me or something, feel free to correct me.

But the most simple law of economics is to have less supply then there is demand, or at absolute most EQUAL parts. Nintendo's launching with a good amount of units anyways.

But I agree...it is absurd that we as a society will wait outside Walmart on it's doorstep just to be the first to own one of these things. Sadly, however, I don't see any other way.

You're totally right, Sensai, about supply and demand.

That's why Nintendo should enough to meet demand and people shouldn't have to camp out to get them.
Nintendo is launching with a good amount.
I honestly hope that the demand isn't THAT high for it right now because I really want one, but even if I was willing to camp out, I simply don't have that option.

I don't want to be the first to own one, I just would like to have one in time for Thanksgiving, or at LEAST Christmas. That would be make me one of the first, yes, but it's more just having those periods of break time from college to play.

About lag. The only lag I saw was in TP, due to the fact that you have to complete the motion before Link swings the sword. Like, a millisecond. I'm sure lag won't be a problem. Wireless controllers have been done for years, and while this is more advanced the system is tailored for it.

Price (or otherwise known as the equilbrium point) is determined by the intersection of the downsloping demand curve and the upsloping supply curve. Any overpricing/underpricing that occurs will naturally move back to the equilibrium point due to decreased/increased demand respectively.

. . .which actually isn't the case for firms like Sony and Nintendo, because they don't operate in a standard perfectly competitive market. . .which means that the law of supply and demand doesn't necessarily apply to them. At least, not all the time.

And lag sure as heck better not be there. I don't pay $250+ to play Smash on a laggy system.

Which videos? In Twilight Princess, you have to complete the move in order for the sword slash to be executed (it has accelerometers, not ESP). So while a sword slash will have a very slight delay so that it knows you completed the move rather than accidentally moved your controller slightly in one direct, aiming with the Bow should have zero delay because it knows what it should be doing at all times. I'm sure Nintendo is as aware as you and I that any delay from the pointer function would make the console a joke.

its not Nintendo's problem that your not eager enough to wait for a Wii, why would you be disappointed? not only does the supply and demand factor work in this situation but 2 million for the united states being that they have to spread Wii's to england, german, australia, japan and i'm sure other places.

i got some facts n started putting it together.
12.6% of the population is in poverty
13% is elderly
300 million ppl in the US
25.6% of 300 mil = 76.8 million
300 mill - 76.8 mill = 223.2 mil
223.2 mil / 2 mil (wii's) = 111.6 people per wii in America that fit the first 2 categories i mentioned but theres probably less people per wii after you figure that the age group for getting it is probably 18 - 40 in age, probably you could half that number b/c most women wouldn't be interested, the border jumpers probably won't buy them, the 360 and PS3 ppl might not buy them and families with kids will share the wii so it would be 1 wii for 2 or 3 kids instead of 1 per each. if anyone wants to take me up on my math or come up with the percent of americans that fit standards that apply to weather they might purchase a wii or not please post something. the one flaw with my calculations tho is that some elderly people may be in poverty so the percents could overlap a little bit but its not very likely.

The person above me deserves a cookie for doing that math.

The lag is a result from the Wii remote needing to finish for it to register.

This 'lag' is more like Link's swing starting when your's ends. It's almost unnoticeable, and I wouldn't be too worried about it.

[Edit:]

I wanna pose a quick question for you fellas. This came up at lunch today, and was wondering what the general concensus is for this.

Will the control scheme get boring in a matter of weeks?

I said it might, but that I would've said the same thing about the touch screen for the DS, which is selling like hot cakes.

Nah... Maybe a matter of years (2 or 3), but certainly not weeks. They'll be coming up with new ways to use the remote for a long time. In any case, it's not that it's new and innovative - well, it is - but it's that it might be better. I've been using a mouse and keyboard for many years, and while it's nothing new and exciting to me, it works beautifully. The traditional console controller had its day, and we know it's great for side-scrollers, fighting games, and such. But think how much better the Wiimote could be for FPS games, RPG's, etc. etc. etc...

It may get old, but it will never got boring as long as it works.

Did standard controllers get boring after a few weeks?

It's a controller. So long as it feels good and controls well, it's not what we'll be paying attention to.
The question you SHOULD be asking is whether or not the GAMES will be boring.

And when I said lag, I was talking more about AIMING. That shouldn't have lag.
Swinging in this Zelda? That's understandable. Even though what motions you do don't actually add up to an equal motion on screen.

I think it's not the question of "will the control scheme get boring," it's more of "will the control scheme promote more innovative games and player/game interaction," as Nintendo has been suggesting for both the DS and the Wii. And for that, I really have no idea.

It's interesting to note, though, that the actual number of well-executed, innovative games on the DS is very small. Not many games use the touch screen/mic in particularly effective ways (barring Kirby: Canvas Curse and Phoenix Wright). Most good games (Advance Wars, Mario) ignore the touch screen in lieu of standard-configuration gaming.

I doubt that the Wii will do the same though, given that the control scheme is so different that using a default control figuration is nigh impossible. Unless developers just do simple ports/games and have people use the classic controller.

It solely depends on the developers ability to create new ways to play. Red Steel, Call of Duty, and Metroid are all shooting games coming out for the Wii. If say, a year from now sequels to those games come out and they control the same, then yes, it would get boring.

But there's always the possibility of attachments to the controller, turning it on it's side, and lots of things that can make a game fun.

Good God, I didn't see that. . .the list was updated in the space of 5 hours. I'm definitely getting Duck Hunt, Mario Bros., Mario RPG, Super Metroid and Gunstar Heroes. It'd be nice to have Link to the Past on there, but whatever.

I can finally play all the games that I missed out on. Nintendo, I love you with the passion of a thousand blazing suns at the height of their hydrogen fusion lifecycle. Will you marry me?

I'll be picking up Duck Hunt, just to use it with the Wii remote.

I have EVERY one of those games in cartridge form. They need to release some of the good stuff I don't have...haha.

Yoe need broadband (or another type of high-speed internet) for VC, don't you?

DARN!!!!! How long would it take to download the games with 26 KPS? Only about two or three days (depending on game), right?

I really really wish I had high-speed. All this talk about the new VC games and Brawl online is making me jealous. Very jealous. And sad, so sad :(

You've got a while to get highspeed, and it's not like these games'll go away.

But jeah, it'd take a while to DL games on that type of connection, I think.

When I saw the first list of VC games, Mario RPG wasn't on there, and I was disappointed. But now, it's there, and I'm going to have to make some extra money to buy some points just for that game.

EDIT: Dang it, not at launch. Well, I still need to get the points sometime.

I'd expect it Q1 next year sometime.

Except for the fact that we can use GCN controllers.
Nintendo confirmed recently that we can use GCN for Virtual Console, and you can also use it in Metal Slug Anthology.
And don't forget about Brawl, either.
It's going to be lik ethe DS--a balance of innovative and more traditional games.

Also, I'm confused.

Mario Bros--as in, SUPER Mario Bros.?
Or just plain Mario bros.?
Because I coulda sworn I saw Mario Bros. on the VC list already for launch...
And now it's there again?
Does that mean one of them is SUPER Mario Bros.?
Because that's the one I actually want.

And if there is any confusion, Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. are two different games.

Furthermore, if the Wiimote is innately laggy, that is going to hurt it down the road.
Games where the Wiimote becomes an extension of the arm is where we're gonna see a lot of innovation, but it won't be able to happen if there's lag. The controllers seem like they should be capable of doing this stuff with unnoticeable lag.

It's a real shame that the GC component cables won't be compatible with the Wii....Ahh well.

As for if the component cables are worth it? Well, it depends: if you have a EDTV (very few of them out there) or a HDTV (quite a number, these days), then I'd say get the component cables: it'll improve color quality, brightness, and above all; it'll make the picture a lot smoother.

Well, I'm glad to see Star Fox 64 as one of the VC games...I just wish they didn't cost so much....

I too, am stuck with dial-up (and to you who has the guts to say "switch to broadband", don't...or you'll suffer my wrath)...it's the ONLY thing available here....so, I'll have to play Wii games online with a good ole 49.2K connection. Ahh well, that's more than enough for the DS!

And all signs point to no, thankfully. This has already been addressed: The wiimote needs to recognize the move before Link does the move. Therefore there must be a very, very slight lag between when you start the move and when it executes, but logically, there will be zero lag between moving the wiimote, and the pointer onscreen moving.

*Disclaimer: I'm a technical idiot.

-------------------------------------------------

Adding more to the whole laggy talk:

I'm not sure if you guys are aware of this, but a while ago (not even a month, me thinks), a new way of developing was discovered for the Wii. It's called LiveMove (I think), and basically what it does it make it so that while developing the Wii console can recognize gestures.

This is a big step from the calculus that programmers were having to do.

Here we go!

Obviously.

The point is that it makes it easier for developers to do their thing.

If this had come out 5 months ago instead of a little under a month ago, then 1:1 could have possibly made it into Red Steel.

Hmm, possibly, but even with LiveMove, I would think that there would be some lag present--probably not enough to notice with our reaction times, but it'll definitely be there.

Say, is there any word on when Nintendo will be offering other colors for the Wii?
