How about just no more ideas on the mic? Please let Zink post, his opionions and some of his ideas are worth while. That and I'm bored with the mic idea, moving on!

There may be a chance we'll see the Revolution, State side, sometime during the summer. Japan is soppusivly getting theirs in June, so maybe a few weeks or month, America will get it. Followed by Europe.
I hope this is true. The sooner the better. I'm getting psyched up just thinking about it! GAAH!

So I'm not actually banned from the thread? I don't really understand why everyone got so worked up anyway.
Any guesses re: the Rev's final name?

:( my only friend.
I think the Rev must have a different name due to the changing of the label in the teasers.
Nintendo Fire
Nintendo Next
Nintendo Gyro
Nintendo Full
Nintendo Fusion
just snapping off some names here.

I dunno, Revolution might be it, only because they already have a logo for it. :p Granted, it's just regular font with a DVD as an O, but PS3 is just Spiderman 2 font, anyway. XD Hm.. maybe Nintendo Game3DVDsonlyalittle longer? :p That about describes the console like GameCube did. ;) Maybe Nintendo could go back to before they used codenames. The NES/Famicom and SNES/Super Famicom didn't have codenames, did they? Then came Project Reality and Dolphin.... hm. Oh, please let me know if I'm wrong about the NES and SNES thing, I hate having my facts not straight. :(

Edit: Or maybe the Nintendo Generation. But that sounds pretty corny. Almost as corny as Nintendo Nostalgia. XD

But what about the removal of "Revolution" from the console? this seems to suggest something. BTW, we need to find a site that will have live coverage of E3 so we can watch.

Yeah those names were below par, but it isn't like the rest of us can think of any decent names either, myself to be specific. At least you attempted it. Nintendo should stick to the revolution name like two pieces of wood nailed together along with super glue. Horrible comparison ay?

Well, the name Dolphin was permeated into the public a bit (albeit not nearly as much as Revolution), as I've seen on old N64 fansites looking forward to the next-gen of the era, without ever being updated. XD They were calling it Dolphin in all seriousness, saying how they hoped they would have Super Mairo Dolphin and whatever. The closest thing to Dolphin the GCN actually got was Olimar's ship, though.

Isle Delphino, Waverace had a dolphin track and a cheat to ride on a dolphin, ect.

Either way, I think even then (not that i remember) dolphin was a pretty poor name.

Hm.. Delphino, I forgot. :p Yeah, I don't think it was the greatest of names, but at the time, I know I was (and apparently others were) taking the name seriously. I'm hoping the Revolution stays Revolution, since it's a pretty appropriate name and it actually sounds cool, but meh. If they replace the name, then it'd better be cool. Again, though, merely based on the fact that they already have a logo for it I'm thinking they won't change the name. It's a stupid reason, but hey.

Actually the GCN was the exact opposite. Good job. It was codenamed the Dolphin, and that name obviously didn't stick. As for the DS, if it even had a codename (which I'm pretty sure it didn't), that didn't stick. Otherwise, DS isn't really a codename.

They just never got around to coming up with anything better, so they went with that.
Are you sure that it was a codename? I could've sworn they just never had a codename and gave that name to the finished product. Oh well. He was still wrong about the GCN. XD

The DS was codenamed Nitro at one point.

Osco sez: You were codenamed Crouching Sheik, Hidden Dragon at one point.

Anyone ELSE have any list of names? I literally just wrote those as I thought of them, not giving any more... thought XD. Sure Revolution has permeated, but then how do you explain the removal of Revolution from the box? And if anyone can come up with better names, go ahead.

Probably because the revolution logo they had was crap, and they are designing a better one.

Ooo, that's a possibility. A new one would kinda have to be better. But why replace it with Nintendo then? Why not keep the old one until a new one was designed? Why not make a better logo in the first place?

Rev-lotion. That was a good one. The name RS isn't as bad as others that have been conjured.

I always thought that E3 logo looked kind of lame. It had the two 'o's look like two differently sized disks, the Gamecube's and the Rev's.

I use Rev-lotion all the time, doods. It really clears up skin blemishes. ;) But seriously, all of those look pretty **** sweet. I like the virtual console selection screen one in specific. You know, the one that had 'Choose your console' and had a pic of a SNES with the US logo and everything. Man, that'd be cool. But if it was like that, then all 3 versions would be different (North American, European, and Asian, I mean). The US had a different NES from the Japanese one, and they had a different SNES from both Japan and Europe. But oh well, it wouldn't be too huge of a difference. Either way, pretty kickass. My photoshop skillz r phail compared to these guys.

Searching for my own way of the ninja.
I like a lot of conceptual system screen things.

I also really liked the made-up boot-up screen. That was cool.
If Nintendo pulls off something like that, I will very pleased, because that is slick and sweet. It gives the Nintendo a more mature feeling. Which is sort of why I doubt we'll get one like that. But, hey, we'll find out.
And I can't wait.

Shinigami, I agree with the console selection, but I really think I liked the boot up screen more, like DS said (ha, his initials are DS, which I'm sure has already been pointed out dozens of times, anyway). It was slick, and it even used the cool neon blue color around the disc slot.

Actually, I really liked that one, too. I just neglected to mention it. I liked the music and just the overall theme. But like Destiny Smasher said, the fact that it was so sleek and sexy makes me feel that Nintendo just don't deliver something like that. It'll probably do something wacky like Nintendo always does for a start up screen. The problem is, while Nintendo fans love that stuff, other people always deem it as "OMG WTF NOT MATURE". So, yeah. Then again, I don't think a boot up screen is gonna make or break the Rev in the market, but I think they should have one that they know would really please their fans. Because if you're a fan of Nintendo and you've been defending them from Sony and Microsoft fanboys, I think you deserve it. XD

Yeah, I definitely agree, not to mention, video games have been around long enough that the average gamer is not just a young teenage male, and even Nin fans I think would appreciate something that just looked more credible, as opposed to goofy, like holding z while the Cube boots up.

Here is a new interview from EGM with Reggie.

EGM: When Nintendo first showed the controller, it said there were other functions it wasn't talking about yet. Might those include a digital camera and microphone?

RF: As much as I think [Nintendo President Mr. Satoru] Iwata likes me, if I shared that with you I probably wouldn't be here. [Laughs] You know, here are the facts: Come [this May], we'll disclose a lot more. After [that], we'll disclose even more, and right about the time of the launch, we'll disclose even more. There are certainly elements to everything we're doing about Revolution I'm talking beyond the controller, the virtual console, all the different element we'll be sharing all the way up to launch. And I believe as consumers understand the full range of benefits and the full functionality, the more and more they're going to get excited. I really do.

EGM: Given [Mario creator] Shigeru Miyamoto's outspoken admiration for Sony's EyeToy camera and the microphone function in the DS and recent GameCube games [like Odama and Mario Party 7], they seem like a natural fit for the Revolution controller.

RF: could certainly see all of that. Again, our orientation is, how do we push the gaming experience, the interplay between the player and the game? So all of the different elements that enhance that capability's use of a camera, use of the microphone, voice activation all of that certainly I believe is fair game.

EGM: How about online with the Revolutio's how will it work? Will it be more like Xbox Live? Or more similar to how the DS is now, where you get a friend code that's different for every game and you exchange that like a phone number to find each other online?

RF: I would think [it'll be similar to the DS]. Again, that's been part of our [plan] in creating an environment that is more friend and peer-to-peer based, versus simply, I wanna go take on everybody for certain types of games.

EGM: You mentioned the virtual console where users can download old games to play on the Revolution. We know you're experimenting with revamping some games graphically what about retrofitting them to use the Revolution controller?

RF: [Long silence] Honestly, I don't know. If I look at this personally, given my own gaming experience, I would love to play my favorite game, whether it's Kid Icarus or it's Zelda: A Link to the Past. I'd like to play the original game in its original configuration. I don't know how I would feel as a fan to take that original game and to augment it in some way. I don't know what the technical challenges to do it are either. We'll find out.

EGM: Any chance we'll see a virtual console style online distribution of older Nintendo games for the Nintendo DS now that it's online?

RF: We certainly never say never. The piece that we are learning as we work through our plans for a virtual console on Revolution is really working to understand the flow of content, how to manage that. That's a fairly large interface to do it effectively. So my concern would be, how do you embed that on a DS [cart] in addition to the game to really make it effective? But we've said from the start that Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is meant to be the service both for the DS as well as the Revolution. So could you see a merging of that technology at some point in the future? Certainly possible.

Please no. At the very least let me friend code someone I haven't met like on Animal Crossing. I hope things turn out differently for the Revs online service.

Ha, thanks for the article. I dunno, he only said certain types of games for the online thing. I would think something like, for example, SSB3 would be able to take on people both with and without friends codes. MKDS does that. Or is that your concern? I'm kind of confused as to what you're scared of. XD

Mario Kart is what I'm scared of. In MK the only gauranteed way I have to play against someone is to have a friend code. If I want to race against someone new I can only search randomly. If I find someone I had fun racing against there is no way me to stay in contact with that person.

If someone is trying to contact me I have know idea who it is. There is no way for me even pick how many people I want to race with. Even furthur developed games like AC have problems. 30 people might seem like alot at first but it runs out fast. I haven't even been able to add everyone here at smashboards because I ran out of room. The way things are set up now makes for a very shallow online experience.

Unified friends lists, being able to send friend invites to people you meet in random games and being notified when someone wants to be your friend is where it's at. Nintendo needs to change their online setup for the Revolution. If it's the same as the DS... well, it won't be nearly as enjoyable as it could.

Well, try to give Nintendo some credit for their first real endeavour into the online world. Sure, AC: WW and MKDS aren't Xbox Live quality in terms of online, but keep in mind that the DS and the Revolution are on two completely different levels in terms of hardware capabilities, and this is a learning experience for Nintendo. Nintendo has a history of addressing problems of their older consoles, handhelds, games, and peripherals. Why do you think they have the highest rate of redesigned consoles and handhelds? DS Lite, anyone? :p Nintendo WILL realize the problems that the online with their current WiFi titles aren't exactly perfect, and they'll correct it for Revolution. Or... at least I hope. o.o

The thing is the issue we are addressing is that Reggie said the online service for the Rev would be similar to the online for the DS. Aside from being able to play people from across the world the Revs service should bear no similarity to what the DS offers.

In regard to EGM's interview, I don't know about a camera but the controller should definitely come with a mic built-in.

At any rate, you shouldn't complain over the Nintendo WFC connection not being Xbox Live because the Nintendo WFC is free. I heartily agree that Nintendo should make all future games that feature the added dimension with better setups and more options than what MKDS has to offer, however.

Sorry to change the subject, but I came across this and was wondering if the Revolution controller really needs a peripheral for the SNES. I didn't get to play much of it back in the day (I had a Genesis), but I remember that when I did I didn't make use out of more than two buttons in any game, triggers included.

Well, Chill, just because something's similar to something doesn't mean it's the same. Similar can just mean that like WFC, it's free and online. But I can probably guess that if you play against someone you like in a game, there might be an option at the lobby screen to add them to a friend list, which I have a feeling would be much bigger than the 30 person limit from AC: WW. You would probably be able to send them messages or whatever over the online service, or invite them to a round of Smash Bros. Or whatever. I honestly don't see the problem here.... And Hat Hair, for one that's just a mockup. :p But some games used a few more buttons than just 2, and I remember using triggers for some. Super Mario World, for example, had B as jump, X as run, and A as the spin jump. Besides, they'd have to keep it in the same fashion of the original controller, at least in terms of the buttons.
