I can barely scrounge up the money for just the system, so the accessories will have to wait. :ohwell:

I advise baby stitting. It takes a little while to take off but as soon as you have a few satisfied customers- like a family friend or something- word gets around.

A part time job is obviously the best option (for students, anyway), but I don't have the time even for that. I sometimes work concerts to pay off fees for band and collect the tip money on the side. A part time job requires transportation, too, so that rules it out for people who don't have enough money for a Wii, let alone a car.

Yeah, sometimes it better to buy the accessories and all that other crap first so you don't have to spend more money when you get the console.
For people who have a regular paycheck but can't afford $300 all at once, I'm sure it does make a difference.
But it seems so odd. You can't DO anything with it yet.
If you didn't get a system at launch, but you did get a Wiimote and Nunchuck, and your friend got a system, along Carbon, Rayman, or at least Wii Sports, you can still play multiplayer, even if your friend couldn't afford another sixty dollar controller.

The Wiimote is 40, but the nunchuk is 20, so its 60 for a full controller, even though most games dont need the nunchuk.

^ Most multiplayer don't seem to need the Nunchaku yet, but the majority of first person are definitely using it, at least the ones getting a lot of attention.

I haven't even subscribed, it wouldn't be worth the money. I just flip through it for anything worth reading when I'm in Barnes and Noble. But one of the things I always check is the rumor/news columns, and I know that definitely wasn't in this month's issue, at least the parts that I read.

My NP hasn't arrived yet :(
Okay... Anyways, the good thing about NP is that they give away free stuff when you order new issues. I'm hoping to wait until the Wii comes out to get a Wii T-shirt or other Wii related items. Maybe you should start thinking about ordering issues now, Blacksheep.

Yes, this is very nice. I was expecting it, but confirmation is good anyway. Now the friend-code-in-postbit idea will work much better.

Now I'm just hoping a single Wii can have multiple accounts. I was almost dismayed that the DS could only have one set of stats, because I have two brothers and more important things to spend money on then my own DS. I don't see why the Wii wouldn't have multiple accounts, but you know what they say about assuming.

That's great news about the Opera browser, especially since I'm planning on getting a console at launch. But one of the things I'm still most excited about is the Mii. I can see that being used in every game where an avatar could feasibly be used, not just Wii Sports and Music, even live Pokemon Battle Revolutions. I just hope you can customize it a lot more than what's been shown in Wii Sports clips and pics, so you can do things like have Link's tunic or Samus' arm cannon. At the very least being able to put the Smash logo or Hylian crest on your Mii somewhere. If it's been limited to what's been shown so far that would end up being very boring.

If not, there's always the possiblity of an update at a later date, or accessory packs with extra stuff available for purchase.

But how much memory does the Wii have to spare for updates? It's not exactly a hard drive, since the flash memory expansions will only have two ports, and as of yet we've only see 1Gb drives. Yeah, it could get updated, and Red Steel could get online later, etc., etc., but how much room does that leave for... Other stuff?

Wait, I thought that it takes SD cards. So all you'd have to do is buy another SD card, and make sure to keep track of which updates you have on which card.

Unless of course something was released saying that it's not taking SD cards, in which case I hadn't seen it yet.

Searching for my own way of the ninja.
Yea, SD Cards--a friggin' standard media format. Who'd have thunk it, right? =P

I picked up a 1Gig SD Card recently specifically for my Wii.
I'm assuming a Gig will go a long ways, especially since I don't plan on buying a lot of Virtual Console stuff unless there's some initiative to do so, like being able to use GCN controllers, or online functionality, or something.

Though I do want to pick up some classics, too.

What I'm worried about is friggin' pre-ordering the darned thing! I mean, I could probably go out and buy one on day 1 because it doesn't look to be THAT crazy, but I don't really have a way of getting out to buy one--need to have one shipped.

Curious to see just how well both versions of Zelda sell compared to each other and which one ends up being liked more.
Im getting the Wii version on faith that it will be just as good, if not better, and if anything, it will be more entertaining if only because of the interface.
I guess we'll know two months from now just how well it turned out.

Yeah, that's true. I also thought of the fact they probably don't want to use up precious time at this point by making all the Miis shown in videos really extravagant or eye popping. That site that mentioned about the single friend codes had a video of the Wii's GUI, and at one point showed dozens of Miis moving about, like the room for the latest Pokemon game's wireless multiplayer. They were all pretty standard looking, though.

Arrrrrrrrrggggghhhhh!!!!!

PALGN.com.au said:
Speaking to Eurogamer recently, a Nintendo UK representative gave some further information regarding the effect this would have on GameCube and Virtual Console games. Much to our dismay, it's been confirmed that the region coding will follow suit on all past and present Nintendo games. In other words, only games that have been released in PAL territories will be compatible with PAL Wiis. Looks like there'll be no Super Mario RPG or EarthBound games available on the Virtual Console for those of you that were hoping to play them.
Okay, who the hell can I write a complaint to?

MarioRPG was one of the very few VC games I would have purchased. But nooooooooooooo. Thanks Nintendo! Just when you think they're going to do something nice, they go and fuck you in the ass with some sort of big ass fucking machine full off ass fuckery.

If someone does have any idea of an adress to send a complain to, pleae let me know. I want to play the game without spending a fortune on ebay (for which I'd have to buy a Snes) or using a Rom.

Mii on Parade
Nintendo reveals some interesting details about Wii's Mii Channel functionality.
by Matt Casamassina

October 3, 2006 - In the latest edition of Nintendo's "Iwata Asks" series, in which the company's president interviews the designers of Wii and its applications, Iwata switches focus to the Mii Channel. He chats with Mr. Nogami, former director of Animal Crossing DS and one of two directors of the Mii Channel, about the setup and the functionality.

Nintendo has long experimented with the idea of enabling players create their own avatars, but the Mii Channel system takes these caricatures into a custom-built online community known as Wii Parade. Within this virtual world exists Mii Plaza, a community where gamers' Mii Channel characters can mingle with each other.

"From the very start of this software's development, we wanted to allow the characters created by users to appear in the games. In fact, as long as the software developers make the games compatible with the Mii system, these characters will also be able to appear in the games they produce. One more interesting thing is that the Mii characters do not always feature as the main characters in the games," said Nogami. "You can also find them popping up as faces in the crowd. For instance, in Wii Sports, a Mii you made a while ago and had forgotten about might turn up one day in the spectators' seats. Also, since you can store Mii on your Wii Remote, you can bring your Mii to use on your friend's Wii!"

"To put it simply, Mii Parade is a system that uses the network to allow Mii characters created by many people to mix and mingle," said Mr. Nogami. "You can line up Mii characters in the 'Mii Plaza', but at the start the only Mii characters you will find are those you have created yourself. Over time, however, using the WiiConnect24 system, other users' Mii characters can come and visit. In the same way, your Mii can make an appearance on someone else's Wii, although this won't happen unless the user has authorized it. The user can choose whether or not to allow their Mii to come and go on the network, so the only Mii characters that will appear on someone else's Wii are those where the user has permitted it."

It's possible for Mii Channel characters to interact with other characters from around the globe. "Your Mii can pop up anywhere," said Nogami, adding, "I should point out, though, that your Mii will never go missing from your own Wii."

Wow, that's kinda cool. I can definetly see something like that used for Animal Crossing, with having people's characters visiting while being controlled by NPC's. Rather cool.

Still want MarioRPG....

Even if they are not featured in the actual games, it would be great if the Miis are used in all games, like user profiles. Especially for online games. Even if there is just one fixed friend code per system, being able to select a particular Mii as your online profile would be kinda cool. And since everything online will run off friend codes, you can use whatever username you want, meaning it would be possible to have different Miis representing you at different times.

Also, the new VC news is terrible. I too was looking forwards to SMRPG. Although, there may still be hope. None of the different Nintendo reps could agree on whether or not the Wii was actually region encoded or not.

Made mine too.

And about region-coding the Virtual Console (and all other games), that's the biggest crock of sh*t I've ever heard. What's the point? Do they WANT people to pirate games online? The Virtual Console was the perfect opportunity for other regions to be able to play games without having to do something illegal to get them, or buy them second-hand. What could possibly be the reason to bar people from downloading games for a price, when that's exactly the point of the VC in the first place?
