Ok. I was under the impression that you didnt leave the ground.

yea pretty much.

Btw TresChikon, i remember when you first started posting here and you didn't know anything. You've asked so many questions that you know more than someone should from playing this game for only 5 months. Congrats on 1k+ posts.

Ha thanks, I still have lots to learn though.

I still don't have an intricate understanding of important MU's yet however. But that kind of stuff doesn't magically appear in 5 months.

Still, the advice I get here really lets me understand the MU's that I do know and face often.

uhg, you need to get a car or something so that I can just teach you first hand :p

this is your bible for frame data:
http://www.angelfire.com/games5/superdoodleman/frames.html

and for Falco specific frames, this:
http://www.angelfire.com/games5/superdoodleman/Falco_frames_11.6.05.txt

nair and bair come out on the same frame (frame 4), but nair's hitbox stays out for an extra 12 frames.
Haha first I need a license. (in hope you were talking to me)

Thanks for the links, will definitely bookmark them.
Was practicing some silly things such as wall jump edge guarding and realized how much longer n-air takes.

Since I killed the thread I might as well throw a question in:

Whats your personal favorite top tier matchup (non ditto) using Falco?

when approaching, do you know ahead of time when youre going to have to shield pressure or when your shine hits? or is it all reactive? cause a lot of the time i do the wrong move thinking my shine is going to hit their shield, but it gets them and then my combo gets kinda messed up... visa versa too

one would be like i would approach with a dair, and then waveshine, but since my shine hit their shield, they shield grab me before my wd is over..

OR (this is probably more of my bad habits than anything) but i full hop after shining, ready to combo but, if it hits their shield, i get time to maneuver slightly, and if it hits them, i get a combo, but i tend to full hop too early and if i get them with the shine, i have to dair early and my combo breaks... but if i just stand there or waveshine i get shield grabbed O_o" (given it hits their shield) but if i do a shffl'd nair, my timing i think is a bit off and if my shine hits them my combo breaks...

do i make sense at all? -.-

ok, well, I guess the best piece of advice I can give you is that when you think they have a chance to shield, assume they will and commit to shield pressure. Shine generates enough hitstun that you usually can still follow up even if you do a pointless double shine, shine grab, or short hop aerial. the cost of assuming you will combo when they shield is way worse than the cost of a blown combo or mediocre combo coming out of a shine.

Mix up your shffled dairs to dsmash with jc shines and stuff. I saw you doing dair-> dsmash a lot. Or you could even just wd backwards and apply laser pressure.
I didnt notice what thread i was in, so i pictured fox doing that XD

Hmm...... lol. You namesearching or blindly clicking???

I was messing around on Yoshi's story, and this is probably old, but I ran off a platform and immediately airdodged backwards and wavelanded. This was with doc, but could it be useful for falco in any way, besides oh so epic mindgames? A million apologies if this has already been discussed.

i only watched first match btw but heres my critique:

falco has this move.... its executed by pressing DOWN + B, u should look it up.... i think ppl call it a shine or sumthing.

in all seriousness 2 main points i saw:

1: ur main problem that i saw is that u were not comfortable inside when u had an advantageous position. u seemed to always be trying to break away to laser some more when u have him scared in his shield trying to avoid u. lasers r a hurdle that u put in ur opponents path to make them get hurt/frustrated/tired b4 the actual fight begins. it didnt seem like u had a plan once he got around the lasers. When ur inside on ANY character u have the advantage of being able to pressure better than most of the cast. there is no reason u shouldnt capitalize on having one of if not the best move in the game, the shine.

2. smashes r bad. stop spamming them. unless ur shiz in disguise. then do so lol. focus on comboing more off of shines. use smashes to punish rolls and techs that u can predict that r obvious.

jesus christ, lay off the c-stick... the number of neutral position low-mid % smash attempts made me nautious, no lie... you should be aerialing and comboing them at low-mid %s and then if you wanna get smash happy, at least it makes sense and there's high payoff, but there were so many situations where you were throwing out a highly punishable move just for the damage (NOT WORTH IT, KOs are sometimes worth it, but if you're just dsmashing or fsmashing for %, you should probably think about how to combo them cause it's literally always more profitable to combo. EDIT: also less risky)

oh yea, and use your nair more. dair is worse for approaching than nair.

After watching the matches over a couple more times I felt ******** for throwing out so many random smashes. Thanks for the quick critique though :).

Mogwai, I'm gonna take a break from Falcon for a week or so and I'm gonna play Falco for no other reason than to better learn the match-up. Whats the most important technical thing i should practice/learn first. Waveshining?

uhhh, there are too many things.

the essentials are:
basic SHLing (doing it while moving and turning)
waveshining on hits (only really useful if you can do it with the hitlag)
delaying aerials so that they hit low and not missing l-cancels
if you're learning the CF matchup, utilting quickly

in can SHL without side-b'ing very often. I dont flutterhush instead of Nair too often. I just cant waveshine or pillar very well yet, and i need to be able to do those to learn anything useful to take back to falcon.
