Oh dear. It means nothing. It means nothing. It means nothing.

Sorry just trying to not get too hype. I suggest we all do the same, but oh my god are we about to get the next generation of Smash?

If unlockable characters somehow return at brawl/melee's amount....what characters do you feel are likely to be unlockable?
If these veterans return, i think they could be unlockable, maybe: :ultpiranha: , :ultcorrin: , :ultpalutena: , :ultsephiroth: , :ultkazuya: .
I'll repost my list since I refined my unlock criteria:

:ultluigi::ultjigglypuff::ultsheik::ultdoc::ultpichu::ultfalco::ultyounglink::ultganondorf::ultmewtwo::ultroy::ultgnw::ultmetaknight::ultike::ultlucas::ultrob::ulttoonlink::ultwolf::ultpalutena::ultbowserjr::ultlucina::ultdarkpit::ultduckhunt::ultcorrinf::ultdaisy::ultrichter::ultkrool::ultdarksamus::ultchrom::ultincineroar::ultken::ultpiranha::ultsephiroth::ultpyra::ultmythra:

I tried to go for some consistency here.

  • Almost no series would be fully unlockable; most will have at least one character in the starting roster. So characters like Falcon and Ness won't be unlockable anymore; the unlockables are more for digging deeper into each universe.
    • The one exception is the weird "surprise franchises" (Game & Watch, R.O.B., Duck Hunt); they have a 100% unlockability track record, and that prolly won't change. I guess that makes sense, the whole purpose of them is to confuse people.
  • As per series tradition, pretty much every clone/derative character will likely be unlockable.
  • The amount of fighters each fighter gets in the starting roster is based on a rough combo of how big/relevant they are to Nintendo atm
    • Stuff like Mario gets most of their core fighters in base; a few like Luigi, Isabelle, Meta Knight and Ike are very early unlocks to ease people into the concept of unlocks tho.
    • Series like Star Fox and Kid Icarus on the other hand, get their MC in base, and any extra characters are unlockable. Third parties operate the same.

So looking back, Starting with Brawl we have to remember that a New Smash Game being in Development tends to be announced around the time the New console is also officially unveiled, or at least when it gets a Deep dive presentation before release. In this case we've already seen what the Switch 2 looks like, but this Direct is the Real, Real official overlook.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl - SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki

Super Smash Bros. 4 - SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki

With Brawl and Smash 4 they were just announced to be in Development (By Iwata) with no footage at the start, with that coming a year later. Ultimate was different that we did get to see a Teaser in the March Switch Direct.

So remembering this, I think a New Smash being announced seems like the play.

This is one of my shot in the Dark Predictions, but if they ever teased the New Smash through the Guise of another Franchise's presence, maybe they could do it through Monster Hunter, Only because I know it's been among the High selling games list on Nintendo consoles (especially in Japan), and The Presence of Monster Hunter in the Playable roster has been heavy request as well (especially in Japan). It being a 3rd party franchise is why it's kind of sounds crazy, but if the Switch 2 is gonna have more 3rd party games on it Thanks to the growing relationships and growing power of the Switch 2, would be interesting way to show

They could also use a Tradtional Nintendo owned franchise like Mario, Pokemon, Ring Fit, Kirby, etc. I just wanted to throw this out there before Direct starts

My prediction for the Title of the Next Smash would be Supreme, for Best Smash game ever!

At least Silksong fans are satisfied that the game is coming. Again, it was hand drawn with so little people. So.....

Unless they are doing an Ultimate port I highly doubt that. I think that now Smash will completely skip the Switch 2 and we won't see the next Smash game until the Switch 3 sometime in the 2030s.
What? No.

They may not have made Smash a launch title, but that doesn't mean they're gonna shelve it for an entire decade.
