But holy f**k. Mario Kart World looks phenomenal. The return of Toad’s Factory and Airship Fortress is great to see.

The new DK game looks cool. I suppose those rumours of the 3D Mario team developing it were true.

Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games are a good call. I can see Xenoblade Chronicles 2 following suite within the next few years.

I don't think that. I think that it will be an early release on the Switch 2's successor, with them releasing a new game for the Switch 2 to fill the void created by the lack of a new Smash game for it.

Guess the sign was there since Kirby was created by Sakurai. Even the end of his documentation had Kirby present, so it was a sign despite not being one.

Even in a smash bros trailer for Rosalina, Kirby Air Ride was referenced at the start of the trailer.

Kirby Air Riders finishes development in 2025, and it's possible for it to have been wrapping up enough for Sakurai to start conceptualizing a new Smash as early as 2024. We're not going to see it until 2027 at the earliest, but Kirby Air Riders's development isn't going to take so much time that he's not gonna be able to work on another game for this console.

Unless they are doing an Ultimate port I highly doubt that. I think that now Smash will completely skip the Switch 2 and we won't see the next Smash game until the Switch 3 sometime in the 2030s.

450 is a lot, oof(now that I know what "suggested retail price" actually means).

Anyway, Mario Kart 10 looks beautiful. I like the parkour-like options. A pretty good starting lineup. Earlier than I thought(I was expecting in the second half of this year at the earliest). There are some Treehouse live streams tomorrow morning, so we might find out there.

I'm guessing, if Smash is somehow this year(I doubt it), it'd be a December launch anyway.

Or he's just not the director but is still providing oversight. Keep in mind he always seems to have multiple ventures going, even if it's just his videos/column as well as game development.

Plus... I don't think Air Ride is quite as time consuming to develop as Smash... and if it started active development in 2022... by now he's probably already working on something else as well.

Studio S is a Nintendo-centric support studio Namco made JUST for Nintendo projects, so they are not working on Tekken 8, no.

To be honest, besides the new fromsoft game and a couple of the others featured, I would have rather had more first-party games shown off. A tad disappointed, but oh well. Pleased to see a new Donkey Kong game even if I don't love the new artstyle, and I'll be interested to see what Sakurai might be cooking up with a new Kirby game after so long.

I'm very curious what a Kirby game under Sakurai will look like. The name Air Riders suggests multiple characters so will we see him embrace what characters have come after? I think this will be very telling to Bandana Waddle Dee's chances.

So it’s confirmed! Sakurai’s mysterious project is Kirby Air Riders.

This basically kills any chance of a new Smash coming in this year. And with Pokémon’s schedule and the absence of 3D Mario this Direct, it’s a hard ask for Smash to come in 2026.

It could be that Smash is still being developed, just in the background for now. Perhaps 2027 is the year we see it.
