So what Gamecube games are we hoping for, now that Gamecube NSO happened?
Smash Melee
Mario Kart Double Dash
Twilight Princess
Metroid Prime 1, 2
Skies of Arcadia
Beyond Good & Evil
Eternal Darkness
Resident Evil Remake, 4
Okami
Viewtiful Joe
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes
Rogue Squadron 2

Why do this convoluted Smash Ultimate Switch 2 + Fighter Pass 1 + Fighter Pass 2, which btw would cost more than Ultimate did
Nintendo could do what Capcom is doing with SF6 and release some kind of "catch-up bundle" that includes Ultimate S2E+FP1+FP2 together at a more reasonable price.

What for? Just make a new game.
Because a new game would have less stuff in it.

Well then tbh it sounds like you're primarily motivated by wanting an Ultimate DX rather than trying to be objective and every argument will be reversed engineered to validate that conclusion. Which makes trying to actually debate... kinda futile.
Correct. Debating against people advocating for what they want is futile.

Honestly, Ultimate is pretty much a near perfect game, you can't really blame people for wanting a N2E of it over a Smash 6.
Yeah, the number of people willing to pay $20 to upgrade Ultimate and the number of people willing to pay $80 for a Smash with potentially less content is probably not the same.

So what Gamecube games are we hoping for, now that Gamecube NSO happened? We know at launch, we'll get The Wind Waker, F-Zero GX and Soulcalibur 2 and later, we'll get Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Strikers, Luigi's Mansion, Fire Emblem Path of Radiance, Pokemon Colosseum & XD and surprisingly, Chibi-Robo. What are you hoping for Gamecube NSO? My sister really wants Mario Golf Toadstool Tour and Power Tennis, which I agree with. I'm also hoping for:
  • Custom Robo
  • Wario World
  • Mario Party 4-7(though I want 4 and 6 the most)
  • Star Fox Adventures and Assault
  • Zelda Four Swords Adventure
  • 1080 Avalanche(I would really love this, but I don't know if it will happen due to the game having licensed music)
  • Kirby Air Ride and Super Smash Bros. Melee(which would be great if they happen soon, but at the same time, with how Super Smash Bros for N64 still hasn't happened, might not happen anytime soon)
And in terms of 3rd Parties:
  • Lost Kingdoms 1 & 2(Made by and Originally published by FromSoft in Japan, but was published by Activision in the West. Either way, my most wanted 3rd Party Gamecube titles)
  • Gotcha Force
  • Skies of Arcadia Legends
  • MegaMan Network Transmission
Edit: Completely forgot about Mario Kart Double Dash. That would be another good one.
Lost kingdom 2 would be unimaginably nostalgic for me. Never beat the game, but had it growing up. Would love to see if I can actually play it as an adult

Thinking about this again, you know what would be unimaginably nostalgic in a way for me?

Since EA confirmed they're bringing stuff like Madden and other sports titles to the Switch 2, am I allowed to beg and plead for SSX Tricky on NSO? lmao

I mean the Gamecube version of On Tour might genuinely have a shot given

Not like this is seeing re-release any other way lol

Though tbf the soundtrack would make getting it kind of tric-uh, difficult.

Yeah, that's why I don't think it'd happen lol

Would be pretty cool though. I was just trying to think of how many third party Gamecube games I played as a kid and there weren't many that weren't like licensed Nickelodeon games or the Madagascar tie-in game lmao

Would love to see Billy Hatcher though, now that I briefly think about SEGA being so cooperative with NSO. Never actually played the full release, but I played it to death on the old third party demo disc where it was alongside like Soul Calibur 2, Sonic Adventure DX, and Viewtiful Joe.

And of course I could throw Pac-Man World 2 on the pile if they don't plan to remake it lol

Yeah Billy Hatcher might show up on NSO. Even now with all their revivals, I think that's one IP Sega isn't even going to try to market.

Also now I want Skies of Arcadia. Dammit.

I also just realized that Pac-Man World 2 may not be re-releasable just because Ms. Pac-Man is one of the arcade games you unlock with tokens which might cause issues with that legal struggle over her rights. That is unless they were to replace her in that game with Pac-Mom like they did in like Arcade Archives Pac-Land, since she only appears as an arcade game and a photo in Pac-Man's house, though I don't know if they'd be able to get away with changing Ms. Pac-Man's sprite but leaving the rest of her game the same.

For instance, Sakurai is an invaluable asset when it comes to negotiation and earning trust with very protective third-party license holders, given the reputation he's built. But he doesn't have to be the director to still leverage those qualities, he just needs to be involved.
Sakurai is an invaluable asset literally because of his reputation and success as a director for these games 25 years straight. That leverage doesn't mean much when he's at the backseat with a random rookie at the front.

But to be clear, and to your point, this isn't even an assumption. It's the opposite, because it's just one possible scenario among several that explain how Kirby Air Ride and Switch 2 Editions don't preclude getting Smash 6. He could very well remain as director and the timeframe would still work for a new Smash to arrive within the first few years of the Switch 2. Look at Uprising and Smash 4.
We don't even know when Air Riders is releasing other than this year, very well could be wrapping up late 2025 and that's ignoring the inevitability of Air Riders getting expansions that Sakurai will work which leading into 2026-27

What's an actual assumption is assuming that Smash 6 is even on table for Sakurai or even Nintendo right now. Who is to say that Sakurai's next project couldn't be something like Kid Icarus at the meantime with Studio S. Sakurai went from Air Ride, Meteoros and then Smash before. Another scenario.

Nintendo still has a lot of franchises at their belt to fill the gaps and then even forgetting that, a $70 Ultimate DX(Which most people consider to the definitive Smash game) with all the DLC, rollback or even fighters/modes would be a much better sell than $80-90 Smash 6 which will be utterly barebones in comparison.
Also... nothing has indicated this has happened? Are you looking for them to tell you before they're even ready to discuss the game? Not knowing about this shift until we actually know about the game is... absolutely normal.
I don't need a direct announcement to deduce the timeframe and circumstances don't add up. Never heard of discernment before?

Smash discourse has always been divisive, but not even being able to agree that we would be happy to see a new game is next level. Personally, I'd rather see a new game with 30 characters and extensive new non-roster content (especially with a promise of a few years minimum of DLC support) than see Ultimate get footnotes tacked onto it after all this time. I don't even like the idea of the Switch 2 upgrades in general, let alone getting Smash involved. I can understand being uncomfortable with a soft reboot and I don't begrudge anyone for considering Ultimate to be definitive, but it's definitely close-minded to not be able to imagine ways the game could be interesting outside of more, more, more.

I think the issue with me is that what I want outside of the roster is another big platforming adventure like Subspace Emissary. I could live with a much smaller roster if we got a really good story mode. If it was confirmed we’d only be getting less than 50 characters, I’d probably drop character speculation altogether but I’d still be able to enjoy the game. A really ambitious Stage Builder mode could be a lot of fun too.

As far as the actual roster goes, barring a huge platforming adventure mode to make up for it, I’d also be perfectly content with a much smaller roster if there was a huge shakeup to roster selection so it doesn’t just feel like Ultimate lite. The idea I had for that is to shift Smash to being Nintendo vs X, where X changes from game to game. The roster from there on could stay at a constant 50 characters, 25 from Nintendo and 25 from X, but each game would feel fresh because at least half the roster would be completely new every time. Plus, they’d only have to deal with a single third party developer at a time which would make negotiations easier.

Billy is an interesting one to discuss because honestly there's like no real hurdles to it getting in that I know of but SEGA has been pretty averse to properly reissuing their back catalog as of late (like, even moreso than usual) and so while it's definitely possible, I would feel really weird if Billy Hatcher of all things got a rerelease before all manner of arcade/Saturn/Dreamcast/etc stuff lol

I am so so happy that the newcomers for Mario Kart are insane and a complete 180 from MK8's base roster!!!!

THIS ROSTER ABSOLUTELY DESTROYS 8DX'S ROSTER IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD!! AND THIS ISN'T EVEN EVERYONE!!

I don't know who to main, there are so many unique choices now!!

Also... Waluigi's Taco Stand is real??

View attachment 400891

This new mario kart is a genuine dream come true bros, I'm so so so stoked for June 5
:,D
I do still hope we get some Mario Spin Off and third Party Characters!
Like i Love Goomba and the other cute enemys which are a great choice!
Yet I do think adding something Like "hyrule Island" With 4 zelda themed tracks (and little open world) and Link (Totk), Ganondorf (TOTK) Link (Toy), Zelda (Toy) as Dlc would be fire!
Like if dont get a zelda racer why not right?

Yeah, the roster is kind of crazy and exciting. Though that makes it all the sadder that Wart still isn’t here. Hope he’s in here and we just haven’t seen him yet or they add him later as DLC.

Speaking of Wart and wtf characters, I think he’d actually be a really cool newcomer for Smash. He was the main antagonist of the second Mario game and was almost completely forgotten to history after that. I think playing as a huge frog that spits bubbles could be a ton of fun and he’s the perfect kind of character no one would ever expect.

Speaking of Switch 2 Editions!
I think smash should get one!
I was originally against ultimate dx but considering the whole switch 2 upgrade pack thingy and the Expensive prices i think Its like the best option now!

Heres the content i'll add day one:
All dlc (if you buy the cartridge)
Insta unlock for the characters!

New Characters:
Toad
Impa
Bandana Dee
Elfilin
Metroid
Gen 9 Pokemon
Oatchi + Pikmin 4 Protag
Shovel Knight (looks more chibi then the assist trophy)
Frisk/ Kris

More hype Characters like Waluigi, dixie, geno, magolor or Third Partys would be dlc!

Echoes and Costumes:
Fire Mario
Tp and Totk Link (Oot and Ss would be Dlc)
Tp Ganondorf (totk would be a new char for dlc)
the diffrent Zeldas
Links Awakening Link (would be an echo/costume for one of the other 2 small ones)
Shadow Kirby, King D-Mind
Morpho/galcta knight (meta echo)
Metroid dread or prime 4 samus
Or something like that!

I think adding Costumes/echoes to ultimate wpuld be a big priority for a rerelease!

Good news prices wise for Nintendo switch 2 games. Seems like the games are gonna be cheaper at retail in some countries like the Netherlands etc.

Tho well I live in the U.S where the prices are still expensive so am still screwed on this one lol. But nice for other people I thought I share.
I just hope I can purchase games from other countries and the games are still available in English or maybe Spanish at least cause I know Spanish. That way I can just buy the versions of other countries instead of the U.S version of the game to save some money.

So my guess is if we do get an Ultimate Switch 2 Edition, we’re not going to get any more content than a Fighter’s Pass worth of newcomers and a new mode of some kind. I don’t think the mode would be anything overly ambitious like a SSE but I could see Break the Targets come back. I suspect they could continue adding DLC passes after that point.

That is good news. I live in the U.S. too but I’ve been looking into moving to Europe and the Netherlands was one option I was looking at. I guess that just gives me one more small reason to consider the jump. The biggest hurdle is that I’ve lived the same place my entire life so it’s going to be a huge change if I do decide to move. It’s just another example of how trade policies can affect pricing. If I decide to stay, then maybe we could just import the European versions of the games for cheaper like you say. Thanks for the info :).

Something that gives me a little bit of hope is that Nintendo has reversed course on pricing before with the 3DS so it’s possible they’ll do it again if the backlash is strong enough and sales don’t meet expectations. I know inflation means prices were going to rise somewhat but I assumed that meant $70 games, not $80+. I probably overreacted a bit the other day and I’m not swearing off Nintendo forever, I’m just going to hold off until there’s either a big price drop of there are multiple must play games I can only play on Switch 2. Until that time, I’m happy to keep playing games I already own that I haven’t gotten around to yet.

I think that's part of the problem. telling yourself something is near perfect sounds to me like a way to close yourself off from the potential of other games
Yeah, and it looks like a good portion of the community is thinking the same way as shown by how many people I see request an Ultimate rerelease and not a completely new game.

I’m definitely not someone that will only accept Smash Ultimate DX and not a new game. A brand new game would be cool too as long as it has something that sets it apart from Ultimate. I’d still hope for a large roster even if it’s not literally EiH2 but I could accept a smaller roster if the game is otherwise enjoyable with lots of replay value. The only issue is that a smaller roster means I’m no longer interested in character speculation but that doesn’t mean I can’t still have fun with the game.

Also, really happy they're gonna sell these games much cheaper over here!

Smash discourse has always been divisive, but not even being able to agree that we would be happy to see a new game is next level.
DEX's Happiness Hierarchy:
Smash Ultimate Switch 2 Edition without new Fighters < Smash 6 with cuts < Smash Ultimate Switch 2 Edition with new Fighters < Smash 6 with EiH2

What makes me happy, is more Everyone is Here. If Smash 6 can give me that, I want that. If it can't, I'd rather have Ultimate S2E.

Sakurai is an invaluable asset literally because of his reputation and success as a director for these games 25 years straight. That leverage doesn't mean much when he's at the backseat with a random rookie at the front.
It's also the personal relationships he has with all those other developers and publishers. Something he can leverage from a non-directorial role.

Do you guys think the price will increase, decrease or remain the same?

Also Nintendo is delaying preorders.
I think the price will increase. They specifically mentioned it was due to the tariffs if I understand correctly. From what I’m reading on GameFAQs, it looks like the tariffs weren’t factored in yet. Hope I’m wrong though.

If it was factored in then it will become worse because of the increases in the past few days that were announced.

I think they set the price of the console and games at an expected 10%-25% tariff rate, but with the up to 46% rate on multiple production partners and 24% rate on Japan, they are trying to figure out what to do with the price. Kit and Krista said that there's probably a sort of a crisis situation at NOA with the pricing, so they might be taking some of the backlash into account.

They will be assessing, so it is subject to change for the better or worse depending on costs to manufacture and shipping worldwide.

Exactly. They just announced a 46% tariff on Vietnam yesterday where the Switch 2 is being produced as well as tariffs on China. The Switch 2 prices were announced before that. While I’d love the delays in preorders to be because they heard the fans and are reducing the price, I’m worried the opposite might be true. Not jumping to conclusions yet but if I already wasn’t planning to get it anytime soon before, I definitely won’t if the price goes even higher.

More on Switch 2 games. Be sure to look at the cover before buying to avoid getting a Game Key Card rather then an actual game. Also, some games will be Key Cards only, but you need to insert them before you can play the digital download. Unlike pure digital purchase and download.
View attachment 401075
So in some cases you might still need to have the game key inserted and the game downloaded? That's the worst of both worlds...
