How do you all feel about incorporating a weapon from Organization XIII from Kingdom Hearts as a new item? I was attempting the "give each series a new item" challenge when this idea came to me. My choice for a Organization XIII item is Xaldin's Spears; they would float around your fighter and attack while you also attack. They wouldn't have fighter-exclusive animations, making them easier to implement.

To be fair, their child was literally attacked by evil monsters when they last visited them, so "recruiting them" was more a "keep them close by just in case". Also the case with some of the other children characters, like Shigure.

God, this just reminds me of how absolutely last minute alot of things feel in Fates. I don't see why there couldn't have been a plot moment in Birthright where Hoshidans who are against your Hoshidan siblings expose the fact that you aren't actually related to them to try to make you distrust them and only after that event does it open up the A and S rank supports for them. Certainly more sensible and arguably less questionable than that "random letter from nowhere" during the S-rank support. It doesn't help that Corrin and Hinoka's Support before the S-rank support outright confirmed that Mikoto was not Hinoka's birth mother only for that moment to be conveniently forgotten during the S-rank.


Actually, for Phoenix Wright's sake, he probably should avoid putting Corrin on "trial" cause he'd probably go insane from looking into the chaotic rabbit hole.

There's not really any saving the ethics here.

There's not really any saving the ethics here.

It's more that since they were in a middle of a war, they threw the kids in there to protect them.

Considering it leaves them without their parents for much of their lives (a number of them of which are bothered by and even call them out for it) and some still get attacked regardless, it still reflects poorly. There's a reason even fans of the mechanic generally don't defend the story explanation, it was a poor excuse to bring back a popular Awakening feature.

For the last 2 games, the first newcomers was a new first party franchise (Villager and Inkling). So with this logic, I could see Ring fit being the first newcomer announced. But my problem with this is I doubt Ring fit will make a really huge splash like Inkling was (although Inkling was super obvious). So I could see the first reveal being a double reveal similar to Smash 4, which was Villager + Mega man (and Wii fit shortly after). So I could see something like the first announcement being Ring fit + Whoever is the (or one of the) big third party of the game. It could be Resident evil rep, Monster hunter, Crash bandicoot etc.

For the new Smash logo, I'd want it to cut straight down the "four quadrants" line, and zoom in on one of the corners. If anything, that might arouse speculation on what characters fit each quadrant.

As for who to start with, I'm willing to predict they'll begin with a new Mario character, roster bloat or otherwise, due to the 40th Anniversary celebrations going on. It could be Waluigi, Toad, Paper Mario, Geno, Foreman Spike, or even a Goomba.

This is a tough question - It does feel like the obvious picks for a neutral, crowd-pleasing starting reveal are running thin. I have been wondering the same thing and can't come up with a satisfying answer.

Probably largely depends on what overall direction the game is taking. Are we generally expecting that whatever the reveal of this game is, it's likely going to happen on the 2nd?

You're right, although the truth is that I've thought about that too and wasn't sure if I'd want it, but on the other hand... why not? Besides, Professor Layton is one of the characters I'd like to see come as a newcomer to the Super Smash Bros. series.

I think it’ll be neither. We’ll likely get a completely new take on the Smash logo intro.

Yeah, the candidates to kick off a new game are running thin. There isn’t really a super obvious new IP to bring in next game. We’re likely looking at or for inspiration here.

I think a Mario character is a good candidate. Waluigi would appeal to many people, and I think Paper Mario could handle it if he really had to.

I’d also suggest Octoling as a clear contender. I could see them get their own reveal instead of just being thrown in like was.

Ring Fit is a choice I can see happening in the first few picks.

One of Noah or Mio (+ a Xeno-clone) also seem to be likely choices more into the base game reveal cycle.

Bandana Dee could also be a good kickstart to a new game. He’s been requested for a while, and is an obvious candidate.

I know i talk about Rayman a lot but if Nintendo requested a Assassin Creed from Ubisoft, who would be a likeliest rep?

My choices are probably Enzio or Yasuke as promotion rep

I don't really like the game but the latter fitting the need for diverse black representation spot for the roster and also filling the boots for Japanese history for the first Japanese-themed AC perfectly easing with Sakurai's preferences.

I could see the latter being chosen via Nintendo and Ubisoft

No, that is absolutely just "fan interpretation", much like Robin's "Shipping Lord" status and trying to "breed the best children for the best stats and skills". The actual reason is that for some reason, the 9 months pass normally and the baby is born(meaning that Hoshido and Nohr have fought for at least 9 months), but then monsters from the rift literally come to try to kill the baby and so the parents try to hide the child to protect them from the monsters. The parents try to hide them in another Realm using the Rift and because of the Rift's shenanigans, it looks like the children aged very quickly from an outsider's perspective, but in reality, they spent their full childhood with low interaction from their parents(which as mentioned, some children outright call out the parent for this).

Either way you were adopted by both, and in the case of the Hoshidans, you were literally raised as their siblings. You're not really beating the allegations either way.

Actually more in the case of the Nohrians, because Mikoto and Corrin were taken in by Sumeragi around when Takumi was born and Sakura had been born shortly before Corrin got taken by Garon, meaning that Corrin did not spend alot of time with the Hoshidans and they were raised most of their life alongside the Nohrian siblings as a sibling(although Xander, Camilla and Leo knew about Corrin not being their sibling. Elise, likely not).

The tilts are what I want regular Mewtwo to have basically. If he'd had this, they would be perfect. And a more powerful assets of Specials like Side B not being Confusion (still reflecting however) but maybe Psychic which is Confusion x 3 (an actual command grab and reflector and does major damage, and has other utilities like actual telekinesis) and Disable being straight up something else. Or maybe keep Confusion and make Down B Psychic, or Psycho Cut or Reflect or Calm Mind or Recover or Psy Strike or SOMETHING Mewtwo actually uses.

Cool mod tho.

Eh, if what I've heard about Japan's response to Shadows is any indicator... it's not gonna be Yasuke.

I think Japan's concerns were fixed with the recent Ubisoft patch. Japan doesn't care about Yasuke's preference. They were just unhappy regarding the destruction of shrines and whatnot that you could do in the game, which the recent Ubisoft patch fixed by making them indestructible.

If we're being realistic, AC Shadows is a Western game that's yet to be announced for coming out on Switch. Given the current gaming market over there, Japan on average is not going to care about it regardless of controversies, especially with Monster Hunter Wilds and Xenoblade X being out.

I always felt that Mewtwo's special moveset was fine. Like, three of his moves are utter garbage in the source material, but here they do contribute to the feeling of Mewtwo being a psychic powerhouse. He can teleport around, flip you upside down, send projectiles back at you, and even stop you in your tracks.

Mechanically, you could argue that Confusion and Disable are a bit too similar to both exist, but I think other than that they work quite well.

EDIT: In terms of power fantasy, I think his normals are the actual problem.

Unfortunately, I feel like the same could also be said for Lu Bu and Nobunaga Oda, even if they're most known for their various Koei Tecmo counterparts (usually Dynasty and Samurai Warriors).

Is Under Night In-Birth elegible for Smash Bros? I just saw a tournament match of the second game and looks sick. Some of those characters would make cool playable characters and ATs, and the Stages and Music are pretty good too.

I think the deal is that historical figures are public domain...as weird as that sounds, and while I don't think it'd be appropriate to just add real people like that straight up, video game interpretations of them are fair game. For example, I don't think adding Abraham Lincoln, the historical figure, would work within the series' scope, however, Abraham Lincoln, comic book character, and leader of a steampunk army named S.T.E.A.M. bent on stopping Cthulu aliens from destroying Earth is well within it.


Man even just reading the synopsis, Code Name S.T.E.A.M.'s story is absolutely wild.

IIRC Under Night In-Birth is an original IP. It's Melty Blood that's licensed, specifically off of the visual novel: Tsukuhime.

Doubt we'll be seeing either of French Bread's fighting games in Smash, but I wouldn't hate it if we did.
