We have several non-fighting characters in Smash, but they represent their own different series. Villager looks great, but I don't think Tom Nook needs to be shoved in because AC is popular, for example.
And Samurai Goroh has a sword, yes, but that's all he has, and you'd have to make another moveset out of thin-air. I think Sakurai is looking for characters that can have actual gameplay elements used in their movesets.
I guess I called F-Zero 'oddball' considering that it's a series about racing rather than fighting/attacking.

What does playing or liking a game have to do with defending how important or likely something is? I've never played Mega Man and yet I'd still argue that it's one of the most likely and deserving third parties if you said otherwise.

A roster that only beefs up on veteran series would be basically Brawl's roster, with some padding here and there. Introducing new franchises brings fresh content into the mix. It also gives credit where it's due to games that have emerged or grown significantly between Brawl and Smash 4, and appeals to new audiences. I wouldn't want the roster overwhelmed by new series reps, but without them I'd personally find it a bit stale.How would that be bland exactly?

When did I pick on Smash bros? I was satirically using the same dumb defenses as other people to jokingly justify F-Zero's importance over Smash Brothers before I had a lapse in judgement, not reliazing that Smash fans are recency whores.
That doesn't matter though because Smash Brothers is a Nintendo crossover game. It has no characters to prioritize over actual Nintendo characters. Unless Sand Bag gets in.

Because he's desperate to find something to argue about to pass his time and drag everything we were talking about into the mud so he can become the center of attention...I dunno.
It's not really "Relevancy" per-se, it's more "What has it done to earn anything?" Because even then, one new game doesn't really mean it deserve a new character (Example: Starfox with the release of Starfox 64 3D)

It's not because it isn't recent. It's because there is literally no point in adding a character from a series that is in limbo. It's not a retro series either, so it's a series that could be passed over, with few people crying foul.
Not to mention, SEVERAL other characters are easily more unique than an F-Zero character such as Goroh. He's a fat samurai. I'd rather have a fat crocodile with an arsenal of weapons, a goddess with light powers, a purple space dragon, the ultimate life form of pokemon, a guy with a giant glowy sword, and a few other people before him.

Oh, so I'm stupid, now? Why do you have to turn misunderstandings into arguments, dude? About games you don't play?
Here's go over this again from a history perspective:
Captain Falcon was originally planned to be the mascot of the Super Nintendo. He wasn't, so instead he was featured in F-Zero along with some other characters.
He's the only significant F-Zero character in F-Zero GX. So by this logic, it should be just him.

I just really wish we wouldn't be so blind. It's like NOTHING matters when something isn't recent. Even if it's so important to Nintendo's history and still being revived and referenced in different ways. Just because it recently hasn't gotten a full brand new title.

Also did anyone hear that they are starting a Mega Man X comic book series too? With the original Mega Man comic still going strong. I'm pretty freaking excited for it.
