We do need to keep in mind that we might still be stuck with only two 3rd party reps. If that's the case, Solid Snake is out of the job.
Do you remember Sakurai's comment that "no characters have been cut yet"?

What it does mean, that Snake is not planned to be cut, which automatically means he will be back. Being a 3rd party, he's either playable or not there at all. At least, that's how I interpreted it.

Well there is no Fire Emblem character higher priority than Ike and Marth. So I don't see how that could happen.
Here's an example for what I'm talking about about:

Let's say the dev team plans to add Chrom/Robin to the roster. They are a newcomer and the team decides to focus on them first. The team plans to also keep Ike but he's a lower prority then Chrom/Robin. Then the game is rushed due to time restraints and Ike is never finished even though they never intended to remove him.

I'm not saying this will happen, I'm just giving an example on what I meant by a character having a higher chance of getting cut.

That's how I feel. I used to think that Snake would be cut, but since Sakurai hasn't planned cuts yet, and Snake is a time consuming character, there's no reason to cut him.

Clearly you are the one that can't count because :squirtle:+:ivysaur:+:charizard:= 3.

:pt: < This guy is not playable nor does he have his own move set. I only made a typo. You actually miscounted twice.

Again, explain to me why characters are low priority because they take longer to develop than others or are integrated together.
If you cut wolf ike lucas, etc, you'd only cut 1 character, if you cut PT, you'd be cutting 3. WHy cut 3 individual characters wgen you can cut 3 characters together. My math skills are irrelavent.

Because it's still 3 characters which are essential to the game and and it makes literally no difference than cutting 3 individual characters. If you cut 3 characters, IT'S STILL 3 CHARACTERS.

Let's cut Zelda! Because why cut Roy who is one character when you can cut Zelda and Sheik which are 2 individual characters. THAT MAKES SENSE RIGHT?

You're math skills are very bad. Very, very, very bad.

I just don't see why Snake WOULD be cut. He's unique, was added for the right reasons, was the first 3rd party...

If Sakurai thought that his lack of relation to Nintendo mattered, or thought he "wouldn't fit", I for one highly doubt Snake would have been added in the first place.

Snake is legendary, and DOES have connections with Nintendo. He meets all requirements for any 3rd party, and probably wouldn't be cut for any of the silly reasons I've read on here.

Honestly I've yet to see a good reason to cut him.

I didn't mean wolf and ike and lucas, I meant wolf or ike or lucas.
3 characters who share a slot, and you are forced to play as all 3 of= characters who you don't have to play both.

I'm gonna chime in here, it makes sense if you're doing it for development time.

cutting PT makes sense, because it will yield more time to complete other characters and upset the least amount of people, because it is one slot on the roster. Replcing PT with Charizard, for example, will free up time for at least 2 other characters to be developed. I say at least 2 because the balancing process grows exponentially when you have 2, or even 3 characters together. I will explain my reasoning if you wish.

I personally don't want Snake to be cut, but if it means getting another Konami rep that has more to do with Nintendo, such as Bomberman or a Belmont, then I would be okay with it

I really doubt that cutting PT is going to upset the least amount of people when Pokémon and Mario are the biggest crowd-pullers.

That said, if PT does get cut due to development constraints, Charizard is a shoo-in.

Charizard is the most popular of the 3 by far, so it would make sense.

What I meant by cutting PT is instead of cutting him, imagine if Wolf, Ike and Lucas were all cut instead. I think it would upset more people than cutting PT, especially because he was a lackluster character to begin with. Think about the context of Smash bros, and not popularity of the series.

It would actually be easier to implement Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard as seperate slots, due to balancing.

On another note, I don't see Sakurai cutting Jigglypuff. She is one of the original 12. That's pretty much THE Top Priority.
Yeah, that's why Jigglypuff was low priority in Brawl's development, right?

Hey, just because some characters won't be in Sm4sh initial release doesn't mean they won't be available as as DLC later on. Speaking of which, DLC could alleviate a lot of problems the Sakurai has with cuts. But at the same time, it could prevent the game from developing a stable metagame.

this thread needs more seviper talk.
I would LOVE to talk about Seviper and other aforementioned snakes.

A character's priority can always change, you know. For better OR for worse.
Either can happen, but as it stands, she's been in for 15 years. I don't see her getting cut.

Doesn't change the fact that the "Original 12" is "TOP PRIORITY" argument is bull****.

Hm... perhaps by itself, it's weak. You have my point, my apologies. Still, priority aside. The issue is that having a character that's been around since the first game getting cut is going to have backlash. A lot of my friends and myself don't think any Pokemon character is at the chopping block. I still don't understand why people bash Jigglypuff and think she's going to get cut. She certainly stands out from the roster and has a unique moveset. Meowth to me, is not a replacement that can easily replace her.

If you really want to show me a reason why, I'd love to hear a long arguement with evidence.

Meowth replacing Jigglypuff is understandable from a fan point of view. But, logically Jigglypuff is more iconic, unique, and she's been around in Smash since the beginning. So logically she is the more requested Pokemon. Meowth is just...ehh.

Meowth would have made sense over Jigglypuff back in 64, but since Jiggs has been in every game since, there is no need to replace her with anyone, as she has become a staple in the series.

This is my thoughts. Seriously, I don't see it.

How would you feel if seviper replaced jigglypuff and jigglypuff was the final boss of adventure mode.
Seems legit.

Jigglypuff (Due to being a semi-clone of Kirby) also takes significantly less time to develop and put in Sm4sh.
Semi-Clone you mean in specifically models, correct? They share only similar models. Not moves, not specials.
