On a different note, that picture earlier today before Luigi's reveal....

....pretty much confirmed Sakurai doesn't give a crap about "canon" size. He directly stated Kirby was 8 inches and Olimar was a little more than an inch.
And yet we have Olimar a head taller than Kirby. And even then, bigger than normal compared to other characters of established size.


Should that be the final nail in the coffin for the "too big" excuse for Ridley?

Probably not, knowing the "Ridley is too big" people, they would probably try to find a horrible excuse around it.

Well, I think the argument people make is not that size is inconsistent, but that size is generally consistent between characters from the same franchise - i.e. Mario doesn't have to be proportional to Olimar's size, but he should be to Peach/Luigi/Bowser.

But even that argument goes out the window when you consider things like Squirtle being over half the size of Charizard in Brawl, whereas he'd barely be up to Charizard's knee in the actual games. So yeah, the final nail is in the coffin, but I'd argue that nail was there a long time ago.

Personally I'd prefer Ridley to be at least a head or so taller than Bowser. After all, although Ridley will no doubt be shrunk, there's no unwritten rule that Bowser needs to be the biggest character in the game. Since Samus is already the same height as Bowser, I'd expect nothing less than for Ridley to be at least a bit bigger than Bowser is - I'm not a canon-lover like most but I do feel like Ridley should look big and menacing to an extent when placed next to Samus.

Nope, because those people are still going to say up-sizing is different from down-sizing, as has been the case in the past when people say the about Olimar in Brawl tto try and make their size claims moot. But the overall argument of "hur dur Ridley to big big" is pretty stupid as there is evidence showing Ridley on a smaller scale. Funnily enough though most of the Ridley haters can't even seem to be able to use like the main reason he might not get in, which makes me wonder just how many of them are trolls.

I've always pictured Ridley as being quite gangly with his wings, long neck and tail but hunched down. His size mostly due to his long appendages more than sheer tallness.
I remember watching a youtube Ridley h8tr banging on about how stupid Ridley looks when his Brawl boss form was shrunk down to be playable but I picture him to be more compact and grounded.

It wouldn't be the final nail in the coffin...it'd be the yet-to-be another nail in the coffin as the argument inside consistently thrashes about and tries to open the coffin back up as there are many stupid people in the Smash Bros speculation community that continue to give it life. In short...this statement isn't the final nail...it's just finally using a nail gun with industrial strength nails.

As for his design, I'd actually prefer an amalgamation of all his designs while staying truest to his "classic" design (basically Super Metroid, Zero Mission and Melee Ridley) with elements of Prime and Other M Ridley (Meta Ridley's "beak" and eyes, Other M's proportions/wings/maybe tail, etc.).


But I really don't mind if we just get a reworked Other M version (I love Samus' design for the tweaks to make it appear more "updated" and polished than it was in M:OM) so long as the size/posture makes sense.

New Roster Update: Version 5.1

Additions: Issac, Medusa
Removals: Sheriff, Matthew


New! Medusa - Let me start by addressing the elephant in the room. I have Medusa because I think she is pretty likely, I know 3 KI reps seems a little unexpected, but I wouldn't be surprised if we got a dark semi-clone of the Goddess of light. She's basically my prediction for a semi-clone and I couldn't really think of anyone else to add. Sakurai is really promoting Kid Icarus in the trailers and footage so I don't see Medusa to be impossible. However I wouldn't be surprised if all we got was Palutena.

New! Issac - Issac has established a bigger world than Matthew has and due to Alph and Spirit Tracks Link not being in the game, I decided to go with Issac for once.

Starfy - Starfy is one of the most likely, he's had 3 GBA installments, a 4th on DS, and a fifth western release on DS. He has become a pretty big Nintendo All-Star and has a lot of Move Set Potential. I suggest others add him.

Mewtwo - Mewtwo will return. There is no question about it. What will be of his upgraded awakened form though? My guess is that you earn this through battle or Final Smash and maybe lose it when KO'd. Footage of the movie: "Extreme Speed Genesect: Mewtwo's Awakening" that this new form is in fact more powerful and faster. He only changes back to Mewtwo when he is weakened or done fighting. So it makes sense to be a form that you earn, but don't keep forever as it's powers are limited.

Genesect - My newest addition. I didn't add Genesect because he's a new Pokemon, I added him because we need a Pokemon that hasn't already been playable. Genesect fits the description Sakurai gave on how he adds Pokemon characters. Genesect being in SSB seems very likely and has so much potential. He has become greatly popular in Japan as well.

Paper Mario - Bowser Jr is very likely to be the 5th Mario rep, but I see Paper Mario to be more preferred and unique. It just seems like the more logical choice. (See the move set I made at the bottom of this post.)

Bomberman - Konami has recently acquired one of the most popular/iconic third-party characters from the deceased Hudson Soft. Bomberman has had as much affiliation with Nintendo as any of the third-parties if not more and has had games on practically every game machine since NES. It hasn't been confirmed that third-parties like Snake will return and Sakurai and Konami may want to make use of this character especially since we can expect a new age of Bomberman due to his recent buyout of a major gaming company.

Snake - Most games that have guest characters usually only have them once. If any game does that it should be Smash Bros. I'm sure Sakurai may want to prioritize Nintendo Characters in a Nintendo fighting game, and not have too many Third-Parties. We could have Sonic, Snake, and Mega Man, and though it's hard to imagine SSB without Sonic, there is the possibility either 3 will be too many and Sakurai may want a second third-party to have a chance. I just don't see third-parties as veterans, but Sonic seems too popular to leave. (I know Snake was added as a favor, but it was a request for him to make an appearance, not be a veteran for life. That'd be a pretty huge favor)

Jigglypuff - I personally don't want Jigglypuff to go and could suffice with Mewtwo over Lucario (even though I like Lucario better) but Jigglypuff hasn't really made any special appearances in anime or game. She could be more unique than Lucario with her fairy moves, but people suggest I keep Lucario. I think veteran status being her biggest reason for staying will not carry on this time, especially since she is a Pokemon and Pokemon risks an all veteran roster.

Mii - I think it's obvious he will use moves from Wii Sports, Wii Party, StreetPass Quest, and maybe even Pilot Wings Resort.

Costumes:

Villagette - I predict half of Villagers colors will be Boy, and the other half will be girl.

Dry Bowser - Either 1 costume or a second set like Wario & Villager.

I think making predictions based off the game's pattern is a little more credible than making predictions off when content is revealed.

I notice on here, Smashboards there are more Ridley supporters than Ridley haters. Yet, on Miiverse it's a complete different story, every Ridley post is flooded with the "too big excuse", I stopped going on the Miiverse community because of this and the completely random character requests, plus the wide number of trolls.

Really? When it comes to that stuff on Miiverse, I just say "Prove it in a way that connects to the non-canon Smash Bros franchise." I don't even understand why most people hate Other M in the first place. Maybe it's because it's one of the few Metroid titles I haven't played, but it always comes out differently from different people, some people say it's the bland and boring story and the misogynistic way Samus is represented throughout the game. I don't hear anyone complain about the gameplay, and to be honest, that's the most important part of the game. So, please tell me somebody, what IS the real reason people hate Other M so much?

it's definitely the story, but that's still important. video games have, in part, become a method of storytelling.

Yeah, I feel bad for the people who only have miiverse, who once supported Ridley, but stopped because thinking that Ridley was an unlikely rep because of all of the hate messages against him.
