So now that GameCube NSO is finally a thing, which system do you think will appear on NSO first after Gamecube? Nintendo DS or the Wii?
I think Nintendo DS is more likely to happen.

What characters would you love to see in Smash even if they aren’t the most logical first or next choice for their respective series? I’ve got a ton of them but here’s a few I’d be personally hyped by series that aren’t the obvious choice:

Returning Series:

Super Mario: Goomba
Legend of Zelda: Impa (HW)
Pokémon: Gengar
Fire Emblem: Tharja or Lyn
Metroid: EMMI
Xenoblade: Nia
Kid Icarus: Medusa
Sonic: Knuckles
Final Fantasy: Princess Garnet
Street Fighter: Juri, Guile, or Vega
Kingdom Hearts: Xemnas or Ansem

New Series:

Astral Chain: Jena Anderson
Chrono Trigger: Magus
Mortal Kombat: Sub-Zero
WarCraft: Illidan
Tales: Alphen/Shionne or Velvet
Disgaea: Etna
River City: Misako (RCG)
Octopath Traveller: H’aanit
Returning:

Super Mario: King Bob-Omb
Legend of Zelda: Tulin or Sidon
Starfox: Slippy Toad
Pokemon: Ceruledge
F-Zero: Samurai Goroh or Black Shadow
Fire Emblem: Lyn
Xenoblade: Elma
Sonic: Shadow
Street Fighter: Chun-Li
Final Fantasy: Tidus
Fatal Fury: Mai Shiranui or Rock Howard
Tekken: Between King, Paul Phoenix or Lili Rochefort
Kingdom Hearts: Riku or Aqua

New Series:

Danganronpa: Monokuma with either Junko Enonshima or Tsumugi Shirogami
Virtua Fighter: Akira Yuki
Guilty Gear: Sol Badguy
Killer Instinct: Jago or Fulgore
Tales: Lloyd Irving
SoulCalibur: Nightmare or Sophitia Alexandria
Bomberman: Bomberman
Famicom Detective Club: Ayumi Tachibana
Nintendo Sports Games: Excitebiker

On Switch 2 Nintendo Classics consoles, I'd actually want more Sega consoles to make their debuts, like the Master System or the Saturn. Probably gonna be the Dreamcast first, though.

For Smash characters I'd like to see, I actually don't have a consise list, but my heart will always go out for Muddy Mole and Q*Bert, in spite of their relative obscurity. And in the case of Q*Bert, having to deal with Sony to get him in.

As far as the next Pokémon region, the general consensus from the gigaleak seems to be that the next region is based on one that's an archipelago, so there are basically three major likely options: Indonesia, Greece, and the Caribbean. If we get somewhere that isn't one of those three places, I'd be surprised.
The codename for the region/gen 10 is "gaia" so I assume its greece

Of the Gen 9 pokemon suggested to be new characters I see Meowscarrada most often when Gholdengo is a much cooler and more significant pick due to being pokemon #1000, its tie in with the exploration aspect of Paldea through the evolution method, not being another starter, and how prolific it is in competitive.

For Fire Emblem, instead of just picking the next lord I think the series representation would be a lot cooler if they started representing unit archetypes rather than individual characters. That way the series would be more diversified and have an opportunity to represent more characters. I think "Jaegen" (aka starting Paladin/pre-promote. A smash character fighting on a horse would be ****ing awesome), "healer" (stave using magic unit), and "evil enemy sorcerer" (the not-dragon main villain of most games) would all be cooler picks for the next character than another lord. These could be represented by one character, but with actual skins of other units in that archetype. So "Jaegen" could be Jaegen, with a swap for Clive, Oifey, Marcus, Seth, Titania, Frederick and Vander. "evil sorcerer" could be Arvis with a swap for Nergal, Jedah, ect

None. All my Next Choices are pretty obvious.

Toad, Bandana Dee, Dixie, Impa, Shadow, Zero, Raiden, Alucard, M. Bison, etc.

So, Uh... Tell me straight up does my personal Smash 6 roster suck? This is my newest revision and I cut a lot of stuff from the last one that I really like (Geno, Link’s Awakening remake Link, Shadow, A bunch of veterans.)
I know there is no objectively perfect way to make a Smash roster but I really just want it to be the best it can possibly be.
(By the way this is what the Picross question was for.)
At first this does seem reasonable at a glance, but I have some critiques about this roster.

-Aside from my preference for cutting both, if you had to remove either Rosalina or Bowser Jr. then I think you made the right choice of keeping the latter as he's far more prominent these days than Rosa. I'm assuming you're keeping Daisy as a Echo Fighter which I'm fine with.
-Waluig as a Wario rep would make sense if he was actually in Wario Land or Wario Ware but that's not the case. Outside of that technicality, I'm okay with him as a Mario newcomer though I would personally pick Paper Mario over him.
-Cutting King K. Rool is a choice, but one I can see happening. I'm more inclined to cut Diddy over K. Rool but either way will cause some backlash.
-Frankly I don't see how Skull Kid can a playable character as I don't see much moveset potential. It would make more sense if either Impa or Tingle became newcomers over him.
-Unless you are making Lucina her own unique fighter, I can't agree with cutting Robin due to their importance to the Fire Emblem IP and their moveset. You have to cut either Ike or Byleth and I'm more inclined to cut the latter since Ike is the most popular FE lord.
-Like many others, I question why you chose a regular Waddle Dee over Bandana Dee when the latter is a more distinct character.
-I think you need to reduce the number of Pokemon reps by at least one. Out of you have listed in this roster, I personally would remove either Lucario (due to him not be able to stand out) or Charizard (mainly to avoid Gen 1 bias). I almost want to cut Jigglypuff as well but they're like a Schrodinger's cat; they can sneak back into the roster.
-Why did you choose Z as a playable character over Noah and Mio? I'm genuinely baffled by this pick. If you wanted a playable Xenoblade villain, why not of with Malos or Jin. If you wanted a Xenoblade 3 rep that was not Noah and/or Mio, then you could have gone with Matthew or Rex. I want to know your rationale.
-DJ Octavio is not a bad choice for a new Splatoon rep, but he works better as a boss. I'm also more inclined to the Octolings/Agent 8 or one of the Idol groups (currently favor Off the Hook) as newcomers.
-Ignoring my preference all third party veterans from the base roster, keeping Pac-Man and Sonic makes sense since they have the strongest cases for returning. I don't see Smile working as a replacement for Hero nor as a base roster pick becuase of Square Enix.

Aside from what I listed, I have no objections to your other newcomer picks.

Brother. Dragon Quest is one of my favorite franchises of all time. There's literally a video on my channel about how the first Torneko spinoff game has valuable lessons about the meaning of life. What I said was that, even as a kid when I hadn't yet gotten into JRPGs, I recognized beyond my anime / fantasy slop anti-bias that Dragon Quest was special. I also talk on the channel all the time about my love of Megaten games.

I understand you just watched the Sir Moresty stream and were presented with everything I said through a bad-faith filter, but you're off-base here.

EDIT: I also think it's maybe inappropriate for me to be on this site while also being a YouTuber in the same space - for the sake of the thread here and the site in general. The thread is about Smash, not me, and it puts me in a weird spot - I love talking about all this stuff so I get baited into replying but I don't want to derail the thread with posts getting into the weeds about stuff I said in a video. I'm gonna fall back for a bit.
While you think Xenoblade is melodramatic, dense and off putting based on limited knowledge, the majority of people who saw the game through to the end found it to be very special. This is just talking about the first game, but all 4 games and their expansions are beloved, with later games improving on some of the first games weaknesses.

If the game/series isn’t for you that’s fine, and you don’t have to continue playing it, but if you are going to be involved in Smash speculation it would do you some good to have a better understanding of why the games represented in Smash are so beloved (and why others are not so much). Watching a few video essays of the Xenoblade games might be helpful.

You can talk about how you personally don’t like Xenoblade, but if you’re going to dismiss the majority and act like the fans are easy to please, and that they over exaggerate it’s quality, and it’s deservedness of being in Smash, than people are not going to look at your opinions on how Xenoblade should be represented in Smash with any sort of credence/legitimacy.

Also I watched Sir Moresty’s video, but it was a bit too mean spirited for my tastes.

I’ve beaten every mainline Xenoblade game as well as the DLC for 3 and most of Torna. While I love the series, I do think it has its strengths and weaknesses just like any other game. For me, the strengths are the huge explorable environments and the music. The battle system is fun once you get used to it but it’s definitely a lot to take in. I didn’t fully understand XB2’s combat until I was in the final hours of the game and it took me a while to get the hang of XB3’s chain attacks. The writing can also be kind of hit or miss for me. It still has a lot of great, impactful, and emotional moments but the plot can get pretty confusing for me at times. Sometimes the humor kind of misses the mark for me too. Tatsu and Tora were both kind of irritating but I loved Rikki. For the most part, the characters are solid but I wouldn’t rank most of them among my favorite JRPG characters. XB2 had both my favorite and my least favorite characters in the franchise. Still among my favorite video game series thanks to what it does well but not everything is perfect for me.

Fair enough. I know I’m very critical of Xenoblade 2’s combat, voice direction, certain characters and its female representation, but I’m able to see why so many people love it.

Yeah, I have all the same criticisms for XBC2 as you do. I’m put off by the excessive fanservice and the whole Tora/Poppi thing. Rex didn’t really resonate with me as a character either. But even with all my complaints, I think it actually had the best soundtrack in the series, the exploration was just as fun as always, and Nia is actually my favorite character in the whole series. XB2 is kind of like Fire Emblem Fates for me. A ton of stuff about the game kind of puts me off but there’s still enough there to love. I’m also a big fan of Rinkah from Fates as well as a few other characters. The maps themselves were fun too.

Mario: Shy Guy
Legend of Zelda: Daruk/Yunobo(they aren't the least logical, but it's hard to imagine them chosen over the BotW/TotK versions of Zelda & Ganondorf, the other Champions or Rauru & Mineru. The Gorons are underrated)
Kirby: Dark Matter
Pokemon: Scizor
Fire Emblem: Reginn
Megaman: Megaman.EXE
Final Fantasy: Bartz

Yeah Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is easily the weakest of the three games. It has a good story, but the actual telling of it can get wonky at times (ex. the Mor Ardain arc was important for the story, but at that point in time going there was a galactically stupid idea). Torra is a good and important character for the story and world building, but he's entirely destroyed by a running "gag" that pretty much just recontextualizes him as a predator. Pretty much every mechanic is explained badly or not at all. Arts Canceling absolutely should not have been an unlockable skill because it's required for the combat to feel good. The gacha system is a neat idea in theory for replayablity reasons, but just makes things annoying in practice (there's a reason why mobile games impliment them to make players feel bad and spend money).

When it is good though, it is pretty darn good.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and the voice directors really hung Al Weaver out to dry. Going so far as using his very obvious "wait the line is how long?" scream three times in the same scene. Why?

He's not the most obvious choice. But he's pretty close.
I feel like I’d put him in the same group as Guile and Juri. They make a lot of sense but they’re a tier below Chun-Li. I suspect Akuma might out prioritize Bison, Guile, and Juri too because he’d be easier to make as a variant of the shotos we already have.

I'm not too sure Impa is the logical choice anymore. Not after seeing Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom being brought to Switch 2. These are gonna be the Zelda games highlighted moving forward and is a new fresh start for the series like Ocarina of Time was before. I could see a character from one of these games happening therefore.

But I still much rather have Impa.

I recently read the Unpopular Smash Opinions thread, and now I can't get out of my head the idea of a fork in a platform fighter.

Not sure if this is related to Smash, but now I wanna see Psycutlery in Smash.

Same. I’m actually leaning towards Rauru as being the most likely now. He was a pretty major part of the lore in TotK and will now have a major playable appearance in Age of Imprisonment. My most wanted is still HW Impa though.

I doubt Age of Imprisonment is gonna do so well however. Big appeal of the earlier Hyrule Warriors games was their cast. This cast seems extremely weak in comparison. Just Zelda alone has to carry it, Rauru doesn't quite hold it as an equal, and he's still leagues above the rest.

Yeah, I’m not going to lie. I was pretty disappointed when they revealed the game. I’m sure the gameplay will be fun as usual but the cast isn’t very exciting. Especially when they could have done something different like a Mario, Pokemon, or Xenoblade Warriors.

Super Mario: Koopa Troopa, Birdo, King Boo, Mallow
The Legend Of Zelda: Toy Link (Links Awakening Remake Link)
Pokémon: Deoxys, Plusle and Minun (I still want to see what they would have been in Brawl)
Ice Climber: The Polar Bear
Fire Emblem: Caeda (Or just a generic Pegasus Knight)
Wario: Pyoro
Animal Crossing: Blanca
Street Fighter: Akuma (If he was a semi clone of Ryu and a secret character with a stupid unlock requirement that would be cool)
Final Fantasy: Onion Knight, Chocobo

New Series:
Doom: Cacodemon
Monster Hunter: Felyne

Kingdom Hearts: Axel or Xemnas.

The fact that the cast is not as known makes it more exciting for me personally. Age of Calamity was nice for giving us more time with the Champions and showing us Impa, Robbie, Purah and Sidon before BotW, though I think one of it's weaker aspect of the lack of any notable new characters, outside of Sooga, Astor and Terrako, especially when accounting for the twist in the middle of the game with Yunobo, Sidon, Riju and Teba.

Like sure, it's nice to see more of the main cast, but assuming no twists compared to Age of Calamity, considering this game takes place in the first days of the Kingdom of Hyrule,
  • I'd love to see what kind of new characters the game could bring and lived in that era
  • I'd love to see the Sages without their masks and what they were like before they joined Rauru
  • We may see Rauru and Sonia's child as Zelda is descended from them, meaning that they had to have had a child
  • We could see another Zonai character besides Rauru and Mineru. Maybe even a glimpse of the Ancient Hero hinted by the Ancient Hero's Aspect Armor set.
  • We could see the origin point of the Sheikah Clan, and by extension the Yiga Clan.
  • We could see the origin of the Great Fairies.
  • In the memories in Tears of the Kingdom, there are two Gerudo following Ganondorf who have sashes with Hylian writing that translate to Koume and Kotake respectively. That's right, Twinrova can possibly appear in Age of Imprisonment.
  • For those who've finished or spoiled themselves on Tears of the Kingdom, we know that Age of Imprisonment will likely end with Zelda becoming the Light Dragon. But think about this. Dinraal, Farosh and Naydra. We could possibly see who Dinraal, Farosh and Naydra were before they became the Dragons we know of in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
Like if there was ever a time for them to go wild with the cast of characters, Age of Imprisonment is the perfect time. It's going to be a one and done game focused on that period, go wild with the cast and their personalities. Give us surprises that help give lore and ties to Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Show us BotW/TotK's version of Twinrova as a full fledged character working with Ganondorf. Like I'm legit excited on what kind of characters we could see in the first days of BotW/TotK's Hyrule.
And please don't do another twist like Age of Calamity. I'll give it a pass for giving us more time with Teba, especially after Tears of the Kingdom, but please don't do it a second time. The characters still ultimately seal Ganondorf, meaning no downer ending compared to what happened in Breath of the Wild's past time. Just keep it straightforward, no twist/time shenanigans, changes and whatnot.

Yeah that's true. Unless they're doing timeline shenanigans again, that cast is Zelda, Rauru, Queen what's her face, Ganondorf, and from there it's entirely OCs. Could be kinda rough from an appeal standpoint.

Attendre et Esperer.

But seriously, I do hope for some Hyrule Warriors content, especially music. And maybe Lana, Cia, Volga and Wizzro as Spirits/Collectables at the least and one of them as an Assist Trophy at the max.

Maybe? Come to think of it, I'm not sure we've gotten anything from Koei Techmo in Super Smash Bros., so it might hinge on getting Ryu or something.

Assuming we do though, I have one request:

I hope so. I had a ton of fun with the first two games, especially the original. The soundtrack for the first game was really good too. I’m still hoping for HW Impa as a playable character and she brings some HW music with her.

We did get Age of Calamity Impa and Terrako as Spirits later, as well as Kohga.
Koei Tecmo (specifically Kou Shibusawa) worked on Three Houses and lot of the parts of that game were made by them alongside Intelligent Systems.

Although it’s weird that there wasn’t anything from the original Hyrule Warriors and the Fire Emblem version in Smash. Maybe the artwork is owned by them rather then Nintendo?

There's also Mineru, but even with her it's really just those five characters that most would be familiar with. There is some potential for some good surprises like how Ivander pointed out, but it will be a tougher sell to get people invested.

Since Hyrule Warriors is a full blown franchise with three games now (and all on the Switch)... Do you think we'll see Hyrule Warriors content in Smash?
Nothing from the original.
Only Age of Calamity/Imprisonment by proxy of being directly tied to Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom.

Just like in Ultimate where we got a Spirit Event for Calamity and nothing from before.

I doubt Age of Imprisonment is gonna do so well however. Big appeal of the earlier Hyrule Warriors games was their cast. This cast seems extremely weak in comparison. Just Zelda alone has to carry it, Rauru doesn't quite hold it as an equal, and he's still leagues above the rest.
...you think all the Champions in that hero shot in the trailer won't be playable?

Not to mention, that part in AoC where all the future Champions show up.

Give me HW1 Ganondorf and AoC Impa!
