Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Outside of Splatoon, what where the biggest titles of the Wii U? We might get a new character or two depending on this.
Aside from Smash Bros., obviously...

Mario 3D World (or Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker) - Toad?
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - Dixie
Nintendo Land - a stage, maybe Takamaru at best
Xenoblade Chronicles X - Elma
Pokken Tournament - Sceptile? Garchomp? Chandelure?
Hyrule Warriors - Impa? Midna? Lana?

Then there's Yoshi's Woolly World, Pikmin 3, and Mario Maker, but they already have content in the game. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE as well, but I haven't played it and I can't think too many people would want a seventh Fire Emblem character.

The Wonderful 101 (with Wonder Red as a character) seems like a possibility - while it's lesser known, it seems like the sort of series that the development team would pluck from obscurity for its gameplay potential (like Earthbound, Kid Icarus, and Xenoblade).

I'm only listing Nintendo titles, though seeing as the system didn't get a lot of third party support (aside from Bayonetta 2, which is already represented in the game, Rayman Legends, and eShop titles like Shovel Knight), there's not much to go on for third parties.

Alright we're getting spammy here.

Tomorrow could be very interesting though

Gen 4 remake could have somee ability to bring back relevancy to those guys. I would love to see Gallade as playable.

Sun/Moon 2/stars/whatever would cement alola as THE region for relevancy. No downtime of relevancy.

Im not sure Gen 1 remakes would have too big of an impact, but maybe we could get :squirtle: and :ivysaur:(<3) back? Dont think they would get that much but hey, who knows

What do you guys think of Shovel Knight being put into Smash? I think that he would have a good chance of being included as DLC (like a few other third party characters like Cloud and Bayonetta). The game is relatively popular, too. I'm personally quite fond of the idea, he'd be pretty fun to play as.

Your guess is as good as mine
You know, out of all the potential Gen 1 pokemon, I want Clefairy to be playable the most.

Ever since Pikachu stole it's role as mascot it's been tossed aside, never to be in the spotlight again.

Metronome would be tons of fun to use in a fight, and it's got good potential for a moveset with stuff like Meteor Mash, Gravity, and Moonblast.

I quite like the idea of playable Clefairy myself, but it pales in comparison to the iconic Meowth or popular Eevee. I think we'd see either of those 2 before Clefairy. Solid idea, though!

If we're talking about Gen I Pokémon we want to see in Smash...Snorlax is the only answer.

Call me out all you want, miss. I never claimed to be a pro at anything, Far the opposite. I'm actually a pretty pathetic individual and embrace it.
Good, what has self-esteem done for anybody, like, ever? Who needs it, right?

Fwiw what I was saying was tongue in cheek. I understand where the mentality that "Smash is selling out" comes from, and in some regards it's true. It's just that those regards, as they stand now, are minor enough that claiming they cripple the game is pretty hyperbolic to most. Tho I agree Classic mode is pretty bad nowadays. Try beating it with every character and on 9.0 without losing a life... it's seared into my brain. >_<

The other stuff you're on about really just sounds like you pissing and moaning about stuff you personally don't like, rather than actual flaws in the game. Literally one of your points was basically titled "this game hurt my feelings". Oh no my Paper Mario TTYD track wasn't included! Oh no a stage from an unreleased game! If that kind of stuff really ruins a game for you... your standards are going to alienate you from a lot of fun experiences. And it's really just your loss at that point.

Also why tf would you expect Mewtwo to have a new moveset? At least he's in the game. Remember Brawl?

I always thought you were kind of hot. Lets be lesbians.
Sorry hun, I'm already in lesbians with someone else. Super tempting proposition though. ;P

. . .I would lvoe this.

Been a big fan of clefairy ever since I learned they were the original pikachu (in because I disliked pikachu, but i've moved past taht and like Pika now)

Im sure metronome and a few fairy moves could be pretty fun . . .until you manage to get self destruct that is :troll:

I think it's possible. Dunno if it's probable. But he's got a ton of popularity (though I'd guess little of it resides in Japan, which is a hindrance) and Yacht Club has a good relationship with Nintendo. So who knows, it could happen.

If we got an indie character and it wasn't him I'd be awful surprised.

I finally got around to playing his game on my Switch. It was pretty good. Like... not groundbreaking, but maybe it was just a victim of hype for me. For sure a nice love letter to retro gaming and clearly the devs have a huge affinity for Nintendo. But he'd fit in Smash no problem, so I'd be fine with it. Even though personally I'd rather see Shantae.

If Alolan Exeggutor isn't a Pokeball in the next Smash I riot.

I'd love Scyther to be playable but yeah right.

What about Dragonite for a Gen 1 rep? It's pretty well known.

I would like Bulbasaur, Squirtle or Raichu.
Maybe Dragonite, Gengar or Chansey.

If a Gen 1 Pokemon is necessary, because I really don't want one.

Speaking of Scyther, I would be all for Scizor to get in, but gen 1 and relevancy do matter, though. I'd like for Gens 2, 3, and 5 to have a shot.

I wouldn't mind Shovel Knight at all.

Fix this please Nintendo :p

Honestly, I'd love to see Clefairy and Clefairy would be my most-preferred Gen 1 pick, although I'm still of the belief that Mew is secretly the most likely Gen 1 Pokemon.

Let's get :034: or :061: in smash though

would be hype. . .for literally just me

Of course, I dont think we are ever getting any gen 1 newcomers ever again, just veterans at most at this point.

I miss :061: being in the end of my posts

I wish Meowth had his own game... I wish Meowth's Party is a real game. Maybe it could be a rhythm game like Theatrhythm Final Fantasy but with Meowth and Team Rocket's Pokémon like Wobbuffet, Mimikyu, and Bewear playing with their instruments as they battle other Pokémon musical bands.

Mmm, maybe Gengar. The abundance of existing Gen 1 Pokemon don't really make me want another. But Gengar would be interesting moveset-wise, fits well enough and is pretty popular.

I mean Meowth is probably the "best" choice but he's kinda boring imo. Eevee also makes sense as far as prominence goes but the evolution thing might be tricky to implement. Clefairy would be alright but would just seem a bit redundant what with Jiggs. Not that the two are overly similar, but when you take into account all the Pokemon out there... there's more room for diversity.

**** it just add Magikarp.

I know, it's such a shame Clefairy's a pipe dream at best. The only way it would ever likely be added is if they wanted to replace Jiggs with a different floaty pink Fairy type with a hair curl, but I like Jiggs too.

Pokken Tournament however, at least Clefable's got quite a shot at that.

I want Explosion to be like 1 in 100 chance rare, and it deals like 50% to Clef straight away, but if an opponent is in the attack they are GONE.

I should make a thread for Clefairy, it's no more far-fetched:083: than my Lusamine one.

Alolan Exeggutor is obviously the true winner here. It represents both Gen VII and Gen I if Kanto remakes are a thing.

Honestly though there's always going to be fierce competition when it comes to Pokemon reps, no matter what Generation it is. I guess the interesting thing now if we were to get another Gen I rep, is that all the big ones are covered.

Barring the return of :002::007:, there are a lot Gen I contenders with somewhat even ground now. :052::035::143::094::065::068:

Maybe they'll pull a Super Smash Land on us and include :134::p

As for who I really think deserves a shot if another Gen I Pokemon is allowed.
:011: could offer a really defensive play style and could bring stat buffs into Smash via Harden :troll:
EDIT: And I'm a forgetful fool of course because I forgot stat changes are already a thing :4shulk::4wiifit:

The only people who don't like Rhythm Heaven are the people who haven't played Rhythm Heaven. :p

Try one and I think they'll grow on you.
The first thing i pictured in my mind when you said that was that Scene from Just One Bite.

Gengar surprisingly has been showing up a lot in merch for a while now, and Movie 20 Ash might have one. So I actually feel if we were to somehow get another Gen 1 Pokémon, it'd be the OG Ghost.

There is also Kirby and the Rainbow Curse for Bandana Dee... it's not a big game, but it's the only Wii U Kirby game, so yeah.

I'm biased.

The mods told me I should starting posting my polls in here. There are only 3 hours left on this NES based poll but i'll make sure to post the rest as soon as i can
I should get Twitter so that I can vote.

I'd vote for either Balloon Fighter or Excitebiker. I'd be happy seeing both of those in Smash Bros.

Startropics is too much of an oddball choice for me.

I can see Mach Rider, but that's a bit of a strange choice too.

Foreman Spike would be a good fit too IMO.

PS, your Twitter cover photo is the same as my laptop background. How good is One Piece!

Dude, I love Snorlax, but I think I gotta play the too big card here.
Like most characters included in Smash already, it's size can be scaled, and more much easily so than someone like Ridley (:c) given it's body's proportions.

It's not even that big canonically though, at just under seven feet tall. Make it a bit taller than Ganondorf, and bam.

So Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Pokken Tournament DX got 5 new characters each. Probably just a coincidence, but man I would be so happy if we got 5 new characters for a Smash Bros. Deluxe.
