Urg, I wanted 2GB to win. Seriously, I thought he had it first match, but the second was just not to be. Now I gotta pull for DSmoove, and not just on a "pulling for whatever Noel uses the black/yellow colour" bit either. :bee:

Boring yeah, but strangely enough it was more effective in the sense that it got him further than 2GB. If there's one thing I've learned from watching Survivor, it's that the most entertaining gameplay/strategy isn't always the most effective or productive. Granted yes, I can do and have done like 80% of the combos I saw DSmoove do, that hardly means they don't work as well as the others.

Edit: Holy crap, I swear I have no idea why I'm up so late.

Yeah, but Noel is a gimmicky character, and the best Noel players do random shizz. But now that she's so good and only has to touch you twice for it to be over, welp. That makes a lot of Noel players focus on solid play rather than being random. And it's boring. Does it work? Absolutely, but her metagame is going to stale fast.

All Noel needed to be good was better normals and pressure. The fact that they made her damage ridiculous makes me kinda mad. Noel isn't as much fun as she used to be, because I don't have to work to win matches. Maybe I'll go back to her when she's bad again. :I

I can kinda see where you're coming from but for me she's MORE fun for the simple reason that I'm actually winning matches, doing better, and standing a better chance now. It's like, for those really damaging or higher up characters before, she actually has an answer to stuff now so...

She reminds me of CS1 Ragna. Sure Noel can do a lot of unnecessary stuff, but her basic playstyle gets her so far.
It's one of the main reasons I stopped using her. I liked using her casually for that uphill battle in CS1.

I think the problem that I have with Noel is that she's almost as good as Makoto and Jin, and she's just as good as Hazama (all of this is imo), but she gets what she does for a lot less work. It just bums me out. I mean, I played a bit of Makoto there for a while, and winning with her is pretty easy too, but at least her execution is a bit more challenging.

I just feel let down by CS2 Noel. I understand why people like her, but still. :(

I mean, I guess I can understand people not liking her if they feel the challenge from CT/CS1 is missing and as a result but for me...I like to win. I mean, I've always been "good" at fighting games, but I've never been at that "great" level and I get easily disheartened when I lose a lot. If I find out that my main goes from 3rd worst to 3rd best and that I can actually potentially win stuff and make top 3/top 4 in tournaments I go to now...naturally, I'm going to be happy about it.

I understand that. And I probably should play CS2 Noel because I would do a lot better in tournaments. But she's just not fun for me now.

Maybe I'll go back to her in BlazBlue: Midnight Calamity Phase Shift Chaos or whatever.

How are you supposed to defend against carl's reset loop? With perfect timing it hits both high and low at the same time. Is bursting or hoping for a mistimed reset the only way out?

Top level carls are scary to watch :x

You can only counter assault if you're in blockstun, and by that time, you've probably already eaten the unblockable.

Plus, some characters have weird clash frames on their CA, and I've had them just not work. :I

Well, it's still a fifty-fifty scenario. If you can get it out in time and disrupt Carl himself, you can at least negate his part of the ridiculousness. Worst thing that'll happen then is that Nirvana hits you, kinda making it like a trade. The unfortunate thing about that is Carl will have probably already recovered from the CA and is on his way back in, leaving you only with the option of getting the hell out of dodge. Depending on where Nirvana is positioned, evasiveness is either going to be easy or hard (easy if Nirvana is when Nirvana is anywhere in front of you; hard is when the Carl player positions Nirvana behind you).

Also depends on how/when you tech'd/recovered, if the Carl player had input a Nirvana attack before getting knocked away. Going towards Carl isn't exactly safe, but neither is recovering towards Nirvana. If I had to pick, though, I'd double back towards Nirvana because I could probably block/telegraph her attacks better than I would Carl's, and hopefully I can escape in time before Carl closes the gap (or gets behind me, or ****, even above me).

CAing is not something I would do against Carl, personally. I'd rather not burn the meter. I would just use a (conservative) burst and get away like that. But I can kinda see where Spelt was coming from.

I guess the crux of using CA against Carl, really, is hoping that a) they don't anticipate it or b) you can get the hell out of dodge in time after you use it. So many edits. I think of things too much.

Edit:

I accidentally chopped out the latter half of your quote, Lyth. My b. Yeah. I know I had that kind of trouble in CS1, with some of the characters having weird-*** hitboxes and stuff on their CA. It's still aligned with my little fifty-fifty comment, though. It either works or it doesn't. Did any of that really change with CS2? I wonder whose CA is better?

well, i didn't say you could just mindlessly mash CA.
you still have to be smart about it...

and carl's don't always setup unblockables first thing.
that's just asking to get DPed.
they still need to mix it up just like everyone else.

>_>

I wasn't saying that you were mindless about it, man! There's just risks and certain situations involved when you do it. If, if, if.

Also that's a valid point about mixing it up and setting up the unblockables, but not everybody has a DP or a move with significant invulnerability frames at start-up. Maybe moves that come out faster, but then you'd usually end up trading with either Carl or Nirvana...

...UNLESS YOU OUT-THINK THEM.

Here are the words of Zoogstin, a really good Carl player:

"Dude, just Dead Angle or DP whenever you want. I can't do anything about it, Carl sux."

This was CS1 though. I haven't played him since CS2 came out. :/

Carl eats characters without 1f DPs for breakfast.

I felt pretty depressed after seeing a rachel eat 3 resets in one round without getting a chance to even fight back.
