There's also lots of clickbait of "I made this game in 24 hours!"(It took months actually) and "I used AI to make the main character in my game!"(Which, they didn't even do. While I don’t expect anything to actually save the game from extinction, it wouldn’t surprise me if it did. Honestly the only thing preventing this increased hype that season 5 is getting from saving the game is the fact that people can’t spend money on it anymore.

Nintendo confirming that they'll continue mobile game & app development is interesting news but with no clear pattern since they've been doing this, I don't have any idea what could be made next.

Nintendo mobile games are shallow and bad. Not as shallow and bad as the rest though.

GCN era was a time before most people had internet and absolutely before anyone had smartphones. 20 hours on a single controller was easy to do and even easier if you had friends or siblings to play with. Couch co-op and split screen was huge back then.
