I'm all for certain games being free to play if they either don't go overkill on the microtransactions (i.e, having them for too many different things and/or having microtransactions for unreasonable stuff like things that can actually help you win the game) or don't need additional funds to stay up like early access and in-development non-MMO games and instead rely on either a purhcase of the completed game or DLC to make a profit. It's a case by case basis.
It doesn't help that a certain Hero Shooter game that bombed recently had a ridiculous like $49 price tag on it that was a major turn-off for the few players who did hear about the game early on (albeit, said game's problems went way beyond just being overpriced for yet another Hero Shooter). I dislike excessive microtransactions but having a few isn't so bad.
