Day 25: Octopath Traveler 2

This is one of my favourite games, period, so I strongly recommend it as is and seeing as unlike the first game, SE published this one themselves, it actually gets decent discounts on the Switch before like 8 years. Please play it. As for why you should play it? Well, the combat is really fun, saving up BP every turn until you wanna use it for you attacks, be it to make them more effective or if you do a regular attack that an enemy happens to be weak to, hit them multiple times to lower shield points of enemies! Breaking all shield points makes them extra vulnerable and forces them to skip a turn, which you can keep track of at the top of the screen, you can also get 2 classes per character, their main one and a subclass which lets you experiment quite a bit when you unlock these classes. Also, the music is simply divine.

But what is an RPG without the fun cast? Our cast are Osvald, Castti, Temenos, Ochette, Partitio, Agnea, Throné and Hikari, all of them are very fun and have 2 Path Actions that let them interact with the world. There's some overlap but that's great as it means you can mix and match party members much easier if you want to at least have 1 of everything, also, their stories are pretty great! Osvald is a scholar who's been imprisoned for murdering his family, but he wishes to break out so he may seek the truth! As a scholar, he can simply glance at NPCs to get a sense of who they are and as a guy who did time, he can mug NPCs to steal their stuff! Castti is an apothecary who has no memory of who she is, so she tries to solve the mystery of who she is and curing those she comes across while also trying to figure out what this poison is. At day, she can listen to gossip to gain information like Osvald and at night, she can use her herbs to knock out NPCs who may be in the way. Temenos, our beloved gay priest, has to solve a murder mystery, he can guide along people to temporarily summon them in a fight, or he can... Persuade you to give him intel by beating the **** out of you! Ochette is a beastman, a furry girl who's a fledgeling hunter, trying to seek out the Divine Beasts to see what's wrong, capturing any beasts she can! She can sick her beasts on to NPCs to knock em out or befriend them to summon them in battle by giving them jerky, which is obtained from animals! Partitio is our himbo cowboy merchant, a fine lad who wishes to end poverty after deciding to beat the **** out of his landlord! He can hire people like Temenos or Ochette or he can buy items from them! Agnea is a dancer from a small little village, she wishes to follow her late mother's footsteps to become a famous dancer, being able to once again, recruit NPCs, but she can also get items from them instead! Throné is a thief who's shackled by an evil organization, but she wishes to be a free woman. As a thief, she may steal items from NPCs or even straight up knock them out! And Hikari, a man who's land was conquered by an evil samurai, can either bribe people for information or duel them, succesfully winning a duel not only knocks them out, but Hikari can actually learn moves from them like some kind of Final Fantasy Blue Mage! Go play this, come on! Do it! Do it now or I'll place lego blocks right at your bed so you wake up in pain!

I can tell this game must be fairly obscure nowadays, because I didn't even know that the original Pitfall got more than one sequel, much less several well into the more modern console eras lol.

This makes me want some sequels or at least a modern remake of the original Adventure from 1980 for the Atari.
Pitfall TLE is also an Activision property, which means there's nothing stopping Microsoft from porting the game to GamePass if they really wanted to.

I looked it up and Pitfall Harry is voiced by the guy who did Spike Spiegel apparently

Well, that Direct announcement was unexpected. (especially when you consider that the Switch 2 Direct is in about a week) I'm curious about what we'll get; I'm not really sure what to expect at this point, beyond possibly more updates on Metroid Prime 4. (considering that we've seen gameplay of it)

I’m not expecting anything huge because, as we all know, there’s a bigger presentation coming up. I bet we’ll see more of Prime 4 and a few smaller Switch 1 games so that people who didn’t immediately jump to the new system will still have things to play.

Maybe the rumored Robobot remaster. Or Tomadachi Life HD.

My most realistic prediction for the Switch 1 Direct is Metroid Prime 2 & 3.

The fact that we still don't have them after all of this time is a real head scratcher

Yeah I imagine it will pretty much just be Metroid Prime 4, third parties and the other rumored ports and remasters

But do you all think this will be the last Switch 1 Direct or will we still be seeing Switch games deep into the 2s life like how the 3DS got games into 2019 or how the PS4 still gets games?

I imagine it’ll be like the 3DS at the beginning of the Switch’s life. It gets a decent amount of lower key releases for a few years, before slowly being phased out.

Or maybe they’ll keep it on life support for another decade, just to squeeze all the extra money they can get out of it.

Fortnite collab updates:

Scorpion, Kitana, and Raiden join this week.
Two new anime collabs: Solo Leveling and Dragon Ball Daima.
We may get a new version of Daredevil along with the Punisher

As if it wasn't obvious enough you like Rare's 64 stuff....

As for my Direct predictions, Prime 4, Robobot, Trails Sky 1 and maybe the Zelda Wii U ports getting ported
I love everything Rare made before the Xbox 360. And it’s not a universal love. DK64 can go **** itself and Banjo-Tooie is iffy. And none of their n64 games are safe from the fundamental flaws of how the system was built. But eh. shrugs. Is what it is.

And yeah those are good predictions. I don’t even know what I would predict beyond like… random Indy and third party stuff that paid to be there.

My money's on life support.

Aside from being the thing you play Pokemon on, 3DS was pretty close to dead even before Switch came out.

Switch 1's still going strong and the back compat will surely help longevity too.

Nintendo really just does whatever they feel like and you gotta love them for that.

My predictions are prime 2,3,4, robobot, twilight princess and wind walker( also available on switch 2).

I hope we get a ZA update because there’s probably not much to fill the direct with otherwise and it’s one of the last big switch 1 games. But who knows, gamfreak randomly shows up or doesn’t show up to directs.

But at least you’ll be able to play switch 1 games on switch 2 so it won’t be as much of a death knell as those last 3DS games.

Oh yeah I was one of Johnny’s patrons for a while before I lost my job. Glad I could startle you.

Hey now that I have a job I can patronize them again!

Speaking of which, does anyone know what happened to the previous 63 snake fighters?
It’s a designation number like 007. The other 63 are still out there fighting snakes.

And with Volume 60 finished, I'm nearing the end of the pre-timeskip of One Piece. Took me a while (been reading on and off) but so far it's been an absolute blast. I really am a sucker for the power of friendship, and I just love the found family dynamic of the Strawhats. I don't dislike a single character here, everyone has their moments and gets a part where they shine. My favorites are Usopp, Robin, and Nami, but we'll see if that changes post time-skip.

Can't wait to see what's in store after the two years.

I have a strong feeling that Loki will be the last member to join the main Straw Hat crew after the Elbaph arc concludes.

He seems like a chill guy that’s misunderstood and probably will have no home after this is done, plus the fact that everyone on the island hates him.

Though Oda could shelf him like he did to Carrot and Yamato, but the situation is different this time where Shanks is already the islands designated protector and he has no plot obligation to stay behind for protection.
