I saw that IGN article where they interviewed Bill Trinen, what he says is so dumb:

“We're actually getting ready today, we're going to be doing some Nintendo Treehouse Live segments and covering a lot of games in detail. That's one of them. And I think people will be able to see through Treehouse Live probably a little bit more maybe than you were able to see on the show floor. It's a pretty robust piece of software. There's a lot of great detail in there.”

Well, turned out the Treehouse didn’t show anything worth paying for, it really is just an informational tech demo you can replace with the manual or the internet. The basic minigames don’t help it.

“For some people, I think there are people who are particularly interested in the tech and the specs of the system and things like that, for them I think it's going to be a great product. It's really for people that want more information about the system rather than necessarily a quick intro to everything it does.”

So it really is a glorified instruction manual, amazing.

And yes, the devs put love and care into it, but it’s still a game you’d make a pack-in title, and it’s not like they weren’t paid already anyway. Nothing he says helps how bad they look at all :/

That extra $10 is much better spent towards the price of Donkey Kong Bananza.
Stuff likes this reminds me of the fact that the only reason Wii Sports was a Pack-in was because of Reggie, and Miyamoto did not like that.

Here are some Sonic the Hedgehog stuff I made in the form of level ideas. There are three sets of them.

Ironic Interaction Zone

In this zone, Sonic and friends across an area that has lots of large TV monitors, varying in size but still big. Here, the characters in the TV shows and movies of this area are able to interact with the outside world, and they can even exit the screens and interact with the world outside. Some of the characters have become hostile, thanks to Eggman, while others are not and will help Sonic. It is up to the heroes to save this place!

In this zone, Sonic and friends come across the characters, who will, depending on the character, will help the heroes, throw items for them to collect, close routes to hinder them, and maybe even attack them! The are also lighting bolts that, though digital, will come from ceiling screens and try to hit the heroes, and there are piranhas in the screens on the floor that will pop out and try to bit the heroes if they are not careful enough.

There are also plenty of pillars that come out of the wall TV screens that Sonic and friends can use. The heroes also come across lots of holograms that, though digital, are interactable. Sometimes, areas will flood with water through the TV screens that, though digital is indistinguishable from real water. There are also flamethrowers that shoot fire that come out of the screens to attack the heroes. Many other things come out of these screens as well that can hurt or help the heroes.

Hijacked Horror Zone

In this zone, Sonic and friends come across an abandoned military base, one full of ghosts and dead demons that have possessed various items in this area. Yep, this is a haunted place, but there are also structures of meat that the heroes will have to deal with. This is a dangerous area, though Eggman is here, looking for something to use for his schemes, and the heroes will have to brave the obstacles and undead if they wish to get to and stop him.

In this zone, there are many things that are possessed by ghosts and demons, the former which does not alter the physical makeup of things, the latter giving what they possess a monster like appearance. There are vehicles that are possessed that will try to run over or bite the heroes, and there are military go karts that will make the heroes stuck on them if they jump on them through seatbelts and try to crash into walls to harm them unless they escape. There are also vehicles the heroes will have to outrun.

Also in this zone, weapons like turrets and bombs will try to attack the heroes. There are walls that have meat on them that can climb, and there are wailing walls with wailing faces the heroes the heroes must not touch. There are searchlights as well that are possessed and shine light, which if the heroes are caught in them will cause an alarm for more possessed things to come and attack the heroes. There are also computers that are possessed as well as other objects that can be interacted with but can also make things happen that will harm the heroes.

Additional Information: Something like this would be the music.

Additional Information: Mad Piano from Super Mario 64 would be proud.

Chaotic Collapse Zone

In this zone, simply put, Sonic and friends have to escape from a collapsing building. Yep, it is one of those stages! Now, there are three collapsing buildings, each one being an act for the level, and there is a force field around each of them that prevents jumping off the building, save for windows that lead to the next act. Eggman is trying to get rid of the heroes with this, but will he succeed? Sonic and friends must hurry and escape these buildings safely!

In this zone, parts of the ceiling are breaking off and falling down, which can harm or crush the heroes to death if they are hit by them, and some pillars will fall over and have to be avoided too. Some of the floors suddenly break off, causing the heroes to fall to a floor below, though some need force to break. There are many switches in this level too, ones that will make objects be temporarily repaired to be used by the heroes. They don’t last long, so the heroes have to hurry!

There are wheeled chairs that, when a floor is tilted, will be usable to go down the tilted floors, destroying walls that lead to hidden routes at the end and breaking through enemies and robots that are in the way. In some sections, the tower will tilt like the Leaning Tower if Pisa, making travel through the place more difficult. There are also elevators that fall when the heroes step on them, requiring the heroes to, while weightless due to the fall, get to the hatch above, and get out before the elevator reaches the bottom.

Additional Information: Something like this would be the music.

Twist Town Zone

In this town, Sonic and friends come to an old castle town that is very strange, as it has many buildings that are tilted or even upside down or at right angles. Not only that, but these buildings will rotate under various circumstances. This is a strange town, and no one seems to be here for the time being. What is, or has caused this? Does Eggman have something to do with this? Well, the heroes must go through this place in order to find out!

In this zone, in the outdoor sections of the level, there are strange switches that will cause the buildings, or even the town itself to go either upside down or at right angles, or maybe tilt, causing objects to roll down the roads while it is tilted. These switches have different directional arrows on them and come in a number of colors and often come in numbers next to each other. When upside down, many platforms and floating roads will be what Sonic and friends run on.

In the indoor sections, there are objects on tilted walls that look like they are stuck to the wall and don’t fall, and can be used to get around, though some do fall when they rotate, which can hurt or crush the heroes. Also in this zone, Sonic and friends come across buttons and midair switches with directional arrows on them. There will be single room buildings like stores and multiple room buildings like houses, with the multiple room houses having rooms that rotate individually. There are things where the heroes can hang on in the rotated areas too. This zone does not have gravity changing gimmicks in it.

Additional Information: Something like this would be the music for Act 1.

https://youtu.be/CZScN5cgoFQ?si=y85oxxyir1ES4nTg

And something like this for Act 2.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKiZH-k9500

Additional Information 2: This is based on Hang Castle from Sonic Heroes and a rotating room from one of the missions of Night Palace in Sonic and the Secret Rings.

Coaster Crash Zone

In this zone, Sonic and friends come across an area that is very roller coaster like, not in the sense that it is an actual roller coaster, but in the sense that the things in it look like roller coasters, and just about everything has the twists and loops of a roller coaster. So basically, this is a fun zone to be had, but Eggman is here, fleeing the heroes as they chase him, but he has a sinister plan to get rid of the heroes, so can our heroes survive?

In this zone, the paths are all roller coaster-like, whether on the ground like in many Sonic games or on elevated pathways. Some of the elevated pathways have rail cars that will harm the heroes should they be hit, and in fact, the heroes have to outrun one giant rail car on the tracks. For other rail cars, they can be stopped with a switch. Some rail cars are ridable, though, as well as small vehicles on the ground itself that can go through loops and corkscrews.

The rails that the heroes grind on in this zone are roller coaster-like too, more so than before, while there are zip lines that are roller coaster-like in the same vein as toy rails with beads on them, and similar to the roller coasters in Circus Park in Shadow the Hedgehog’s game. There are also tunnels that are roller coaster-like just like in Palmtree Panic from Sonic CD, only more like a roller coaster, and the pipes Sonic and friends spin through are roller-coaster like as well. There are aerial paths that generate roller coaster like loops and corkscrews, but they can run out of road and thus make the heroes fall off.

Rainbow Ruins Zone

In this zone, Sonic and friends come to an abandoned city where the ruins are very colorful, and there are lots of rainbows to be found in this zone. Even the waterfalls in this zone look rather like a rainbow in motion falling from above! Here in this zone, there are many dangers to be found, and in particular, Eggman has set up a trap for the heroes that could get rid of the heroes once and for all, so the heroes will have to be careful here!

In this zone, Sonic and friends come across many things that deal with color, like a mirror that reflects colored light, which must be moved and aimed at the right object of the light color to make things happen. There are plenty of color panels Sonic and friends must make to be matched in any one color. In some cases, Sonic and friends may mix colors to make new ones, sometimes to open new routes, but they are very well good as optional.

Also in this zone, Sonic and friends come across rainbows that form bridges, which the heroes can use to get around. Some small blocks can be broken, and if all of them are broken, they form a rainbow form the ground that goes upwards that the heroes can ride There are also waterfalls that are rainbow-like that have logs coming down them that the heroes can use as platforms, and the heroes come across blocks of different colors that have either positive or negative effects, like green being a powerful spring and red burning the heroes to the touch, for example.

Relic Replacement Zone

In this zone, Sonic and friends come across a set of ruins mixed with a factory and carnival, the latter two which are being built on top of the ruins by Eggman. Here, the heroes will have to stop Eggman from building this place on top of the ruins or otherwise destroying them. But Eggman won’t cooperate that easily, as he has lots of traps to be had in this level, and he is sure the heroes will fall to these traps. Can our heroes prove him wrong?

In this zone, in the factory and carnival parts of the level, Sonic and friends come across Ferris wheels that they can ride to higher places, and carousels that make running in a direction a bit difficult, though they are unfinished. There are drop rides that rise slowly to an extent and drop fast, and there are cog wheels and conveyor belts as well, and pistons pounding the ground that the heroes must be careful not to get under or else they will be crushed.

Also, in terms of the ruins section, there are spear traps where spears are fired from walls, harming the heroes, if hit, and there are walls that move that can crush the heroes if they are not careful. Some of the runs are already underground, too. They may have the classic rolling boulders the heroes will have to outrun, and there are vertical conveyor belts with platforms the heroes can ride, as well as ridable, yet incomplete roller coasters, too. There are also plenty of holes in walls that spit out fireballs that, if the heroes are unlucky enough to be hit by them, will damage them.

Castle Crossroads Zone

In this zone, Sonic and friends come across a set of highways that interconnect a bunch of castles. Acting as a highway network, these roads are much like the Great Wall of China, just like Dragon Road from Sonic Unleashed. The castles themselves may be mostly gray and stone, or they can be more than that and be beautiful palaces. Eggman is after something from more than one castle in this level, so the heroes must stop him by going to the right castles.

In this zone, on the Great Wall of China highways, there are gongs the heroes can hit, which will temporarily cause things to happen like platforms appearing and alternate routs to appear. There are also catapults that the heroes can use to get to higher places, and some areas have spears that shoot from the side, trying to hit the heroes to damage them. At the same time, the heroes come across stone slabs that can be pushed and they must be pushed onto switches to make things happen.

In the stone-gray castles, chandeliers with spikes come up and down and can harm the heroes if they are hit or crush them, just like in Sonic the Hedgehog 1 for the Sega Genesis. There are stairs that turn into slopes and back to stairs the heroes will have to be careful climbing the stairs or they will slide back down. In the beautiful palaces, there are waterfalls that drop objects that can be jumped on to reach high places, and there are also giant swords in the air that can harm the heroes but also cut large ropes if hit in the right spot. Both gray and beautiful castles will have blocks on the ceiling that will fall off and crush the heroes if they are under them, too.

Additional Information: This level is inspired by Kingdom Valley from Sonic 06, Night Palace from Sonic and the Secret Rings and of course, Dragon Road from Sonic Unleashed.

Here are some more ideas.

Alien Atrophy Zone

In this zone, Sonic and friends come across an area that is sealed off from the rest of the world, mainly because long ago, this area was visited by aliens who tried to terraform the planet to their liking, but ended up dying before they could do so. With that, the area had been covered in a dome when humans found it. However, Eggman is trying to find something here that could help him rule the world, so Sonic and friends must reach it before he does!

In this world, Sonic and friends come across alien veins that were dangerous long before but are safe now and are able to be used for climbing up areas. There are poisonous fruits that will damage the heroes should they touch them, just like the alien fruits from Shadow the Hedgehog’s game. Also in this zone, there are plenty of slime paths that the heroes will be able to Spin Dash and/or Boost through, also similar to Shadow the Hedgehog’s own game.

There are also alien plants, like alien trees that the heroes could bounce on, and there are alien flowers that will cause the heroes to rise high into the air to reach upper areas. There are also alien beasts, too, and these beasts will be sleeping, but if Sonic and friends make too much noise, they will have to start running from the aliens after they wake up from that. There are also pieces of alien technology, which can be activated by switches, and used to get around the level.

Astro Anarchy Zone

In this zone, Sonic and friends are sent to a planet far from Sonic’s world, which makes it an alien planet, one that is barren, but has planets in the background sky that the heroes can see. Here in this level, there are many dangers and troubles that will be around to give Sonic and friends trouble, but there is no time to quit now, as Eggman is after something here, and the heroes must go after him before he actually gets it!

In this zone, Sonic and friends come across piers in this barren road which can be used to reach higher places, while some of these piers can be broken to get to hidden items. There are giant rocks that can be pushed and broken, which may be needed for some puzzles. There are spires Sonic and friends can run up like a corkscrew path, and there are water sections with geysers in them, which will allow Sonic and friends to reach higher areas.

Also, in Act 2, there is an alien city to be had that Sonic and friends go to. Eggman has made some cars active and able to operate on their own, which will come around and try to hit the heroes, who will lose rings if hit. There are streetlights that act like search lights that will cause enemies to appear to attack the heroes if they get the light, and there are pipes the heroes can spin through as they are still active, which will lead the heroes to other sections of the level.

Additional Information: The background looks something like this. (Without the Eggman base on the far right)

Additional Information 2: The Martian City looks something like this.

Warp Way Zone

In this zone, Sonic and friends come across a station that is somehow so big, moving through it requires use of warp points and similar technology to get through it. It is that big of a place, but while the others would need the technology, Sonic can make it through just fine without it, but he will be using those warp technology items anyway. Eggman has made this place to try and trap the heroes, so will the heroes be able to get through?

In this zone, there are portals all over that Sonic and friends can use to get to other places. There are also momentum portals that can launch the heroes to places while the heroes maintain momentum. The upward warp spheres from Sky Sanctuary and Hidden Palace from Sonic 3 are here and can be used, and there are portals similar to the ones from Titanic Monarch Act 2 from Sonic Mania that lead to different places and loop the heroes back when they get through them.

There are also warp pads that lead to different areas of the level like in Shadow the Hedgehog’s checkpoint pads, and there are points that send Sonic and friends to other areas similar to Shadow the Hedgehog’s (the game) Chaos Control usage in the game’s levels. There are Warp Rings like in the classics that warp the heroes to other areas, and there are the warp points like those in Skeleton Dome from Sonic and the Secret Rings that come in numbers at once, and the Heroes must choose wisely to get around. There are items that, when a nearby switch is hit, switch places with Sonic, like the Position Switch power up in Sonic 2’s multiplayer. At some point, the heroes must out run a giant ship coming from a giant portal.

Spacetime Slam Zone

In this zone, which takes place in outer space, not only are the heroes in the middle of the cosmos, but the heroes are in an area where spacetime is visible, thanks to the place being altered by aliens who have since abandoned the place. The area is wireframe based, which looks like this.

https://static.vecteezy.com/system/...ics-set-with-editable-stroke-paths-vector.jpg

Here in this zone, Eggman is trying to discover the secrets, which the heroes must stop.

Here in this zone, there are big masses of matter that warp the fabric of space time, which can create ripples and waves in spacetime itself that can affect the metallic path the heroes are on in ways like launching the heroes upward. Also in this zone, some sections of the wireframe spacetime is walkable for the heroes, and there are spiky mountain-like areas and valley-like areas that can be used when running through the area.

There are also gravity areas that can be activated, adjusted, etc. that will alter the area around the heroes, which can lead to alternate routes or obstruct the heroes. There are also wormholes that the heroes will be able to use to get to other places of the level, while there are black holes the heroes must avoid. White holes exist too, and these white holes spit out things the heroes can use or must avoid. There are also “orbital paths in this level as well, and these paths are circular, and the heroes will free fall and go in a circle when they jump into them.

Additional Information: Something like this would be the music.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jujPhxth29I

Additional Information 2: This is all based on Einstein’s theory of General Relativity.

(Without the Eggman base on the far right)

https://info.sonicretro.org/images/0/0b/SonicSaturn_Background.jpg

What do you all think?
You are now promoted to Certified Chef. Keep on cooking.

Seriously, these are REALLY cool ideas I'd love to see put into a Sonic game. Coaster Crash and of course Alien Atrophy are my favorites. Also shout-out to Hijacked Horror cuz honestly we need more haunted-themed levels in the Sonic games.

I'm really curious as to when we here in the US will get info about pre-order dates. If it wasn't for that Oompa Loompa in office we wouldn't need to worry as it would've been on April 9th but now it's delayed indefinitely. Could we hear updates about it on the initially proposed April 9th? Or will they take longer to update us? I've been rationalizing it out as April 9th being possible but maybe they want to analyze the US economic situation further before committing to anything

As bad as I think it can get, that's not happening. The US is simply too big of a market share to withhold from. At the VERY worst we could see the release date pushed back until things blow over but Nintendo assured us that wouldn't happen so until further notice I'll take their word for it and just expect an increase of $50-$100 USD in price

Who knows. I don't think it'll be any time soon.

My current guess is around May 8th, when the Nintendo Online Store is supposed to start sending out purchase invites. The date could easily be moved, but for now it's a date we have.

An interesting factoid no one's mentioned (read: no one's been obsessive enough to notice) yet is that the date for invites was always May 8th in the US, whereas other regions have already gotten purchase invites sent out alongside pre-orders starting on April 9th or earlier.

Maybe my flower crown's made of tinfoil, but Nintendo may have already had May 8th as a contingency date in case things in the U.S. market got all sorts of messed up like they are now.

And miss out on their largest market?

I did notice the invites went out at a later date which only in hindsight makes a lot of sense as you've pieced it together. You could make up some rationale like "Nintendo is sending the invites out so that MyNintendo users get guarantees" but you'd think they'd do that prior to retailers putting up pre-orders. I think your explanation makes a lot of sense if thought from that perspective as their contingency date further factoring the EU already has pre-orders settled this does seem like a very US specific situation

But will the tariffs be evened out by that market size?

The government is ridiculous already. I’m just anticipating their shenanigans
Again, I'm really not trying to be mean but like, could you walk us through the logic here? No judgement—I'm actually curious.

The Trump administration will not entirely halt the shipment of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles to the States. They've got more flagrant rights' violations to commit.

There are 99.99% already Nintendo Switch 2 consoles sitting in a warehouse somewhere in the United States. More are surely on their way.

The issue is Nintendo, like all corporations, wants to turn a profit on the sales of Switch 2 consoles. Now, I may not be studying economics, but all signs right now point towards that being difficult for Nintendo with tariffs the way they are now. Considering that tariffs were not factored into the original price of the Switch 2, Nintendo's likely in a bad spot as they have to consider whether to sell at a loss and keep the (relative) good will they currently have or increase prices and not lose as much money on sales as they would without increasing prices.

There are already Switch 2s in the States, ready to be sold. Nintendo will not pass up the American market as it is their biggest market. Not selling the Switch 2 in the States creates more logistical issues than it solves and would create a level of outrage that would make the current backlash about prices and tariffs look like nothing.

What we're most likely looking at is either:
  • (a) Nintendo keeping the initial price and selling at a major loss to create a larger initial install base for games, or
  • (b) upping the price by a neat $50 to $150 and possibly throwing in some goodies (e.g. NSO, Switch 2 Welcome Tour, game vouchers, etc.) for early adopters to make the increased price hurt less.
But will the tariffs be evened out by that market size?
You know, that's a great question! I do not have the expertise to answer it.

I hardly understand tariffs myself, but America is the largest market for video games in the world. Because Nintendo is a public corporation beholden to their shareholders, they will get the Switch 2 in the American market tariffs be damned.

They'll have to work around insane tariff prices, but I have faith the multi-billion dollar corporation can figure something out. It might not be pretty (it may be pretty expensive) but it'll happen. My bets are on either of the above scenarios I gave.

Good luck getting Nintendo to bundle anything with the system. They’re just gonna charge us extra without anything to compensate.

I just wonder if enough people will even buy at those increased prices for it to be worth releasing. And if enough people don’t buy then they’re still loosing money on the thing, just for a different reason. Might be better to just delay the release in the states until after the Trump term and hope we’ve managed to get him out of office so we can undo all this damage.

Or they could just eat the loss and sell it at a price that’s affordable to the consumer but we all know that’s never gonna happen.

Delaying the Switch 2 American release for four more years

Gimme a break…

Despite all the wackiness going on it seems the Switch 2 preorders are going pretty good so far. Of course we have to see how they do in the US and we have to see what the numbers look like once it actually releases, but despite the complaining about the prices (which are totally valid) there doesn’t seem to be any signs that the console’s in trouble. At least not yet.

Don’t be ridiculous
There’s no way it doesn’t release state side.

However….

I don’t think it makes the June release date, not at its current prices. Or if it does they are going to make adjustments.

Way I see it:

1) console delayed until tariffs are done. Kit and Krysta and other people with ties to Nintendo seemed to believe Nintendo could be in panic mode over the outrage reaction to pricing, in U.S mainly.

If that’s true, they are going to reevaluate that pricing or the console will fail on launch in America.

2) They don’t delay the console release. However they alter the pricing. Either adding $50 to the console price and dropping $10 to $20 off the games pricing. I can’t see it going higher than this.

Or alternatively

3) Add to the price of the console and games because of tariffs. This feels like an instant PR disaster though for Nintendo due to how pricey it already is in several regions. I can’t see the console make sales margins in this scenario, but I could be wrong.

Either way, I think Nintendo is heavily rethinking their moves for the Americas.

I think a lot of things are worth more than a four year delay.

And considering that the ultra expensive, $700 PS5 Pro did pretty well for itself I think Nintendo will be fine if they increase the price. The hype of a new console generation will buy them more than enough time to figure things out.

To be fair it’s selling well in regions where the price isn’t ludicrous.

unless I’ve missed somewhere. So right now it’s not surprise. It’s the Canadian, American and more pre orders that will be the most telling. They are also the biggest consumer markets so if Nintendo loses them, it’s going to hurt. They might have to bite the bullet and take a lower profit and hope the rest of the world picks up some of the sales.

I have a feeling it won’t be as bad as we think, so not absolutely crazy numbers but still decent enough. Unless they dial up the price to like $1000 or something.

The only people buying at launch will be Nintendo fanboys and scalpers, so we’ll see how sales go after the initial release.

The PS5 pro isn’t really a successful traditionally. Scalpers bought all the stock and no one wanted it. Forcing them to drop the price lower than standard pricing. Which good, because **** scalpers.

sure sony made money but they didn’t really sell it to their audience.

It says a lot that Nintendo hides the dev teams no matter how obvious, to protect their employees.

Then they pulled out the Air Ride trailer and went

“It’s Sakurai *******!”

And knew everyone would cheer without complaints because he has that much cred with Nintendo fans.

Hell yeah fellow Umineko fan spotted, I've been a fan of it and When They Cry as a whole since early-2021. While the Smash Ult DLC was still on-going. Hell, I've been using this site on and off through multiple deleted and inaccessible accounts since late-2018. I don't know if that's against the rules but eh allow the moderators to get on my butt if so.

I understand you're panicked about the Switch 2 situation and it's good to be skeptical, even a bit pessimistic considering the circumstances but you have to do so in moderation. There's NO WAY in hell they're going to skip four years of selling the Switch 2 to their largest market. When I say they might postpone the launch I'm talking like... maybe till Holiday 2025 or Early 2026 at the VERY worst case scenario. Even then I would argue it's too pessimistic and they won't go more than half a year with postponing, delaying just enough for the tariffs to mostly blow over. That's also still exaggerating and saying Nintendo will postpone the June 5th launch which... idk, I think it's more likely they up the price $50-$100 USD and hope most people will still buy which I believe they will

Nintendo just hates crediting their employees because they want us to believe their games are delivered fully formed from the heavens or possibly made by magical elves.

Like there is no reason not to credit someone for work they did. Especially in the games industry where you need your name in the credits of shipped games to get jobs.

???

Are you sure we're both talking about the PS5 Pro?

Because it didn't sell out anywhere (1). Despite the high price and supposed scalping, it's done well for itself as a luxury tech item (2).

You might be thinking of the 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro bundle which did have a good couple end up in the hands of scalpers, but also they only made 12,300 units for the entire world so yeah, that was bound to happen.

For my own experience, I treated myself this past holiday and traded in my PS5 for a PS5 Pro (I had some gift cards laying around to make it affordable). Had to be the easiest console pickup I've ever done. Walked right into a GameStop with no pre-orders or reservations or anything, asked for one, and walked out with it not even 10 minutes later.

The PS5 Pro shows that consoles can still sell with an inflated price tag. Sure, it'll turn off a lot of consumers, but Nintendo of America could totally pivot to advertising the Switch 2 as a luxury item to start with so as to justify an increased price tag.

They probably don't want the employees poached from other companies rather than "protecting" them outright. From what I understand, quite a few people who worked on Sonic games went to Nintendo afterwards, so they've been trying to gather a lot of talent, and keep it there with them.

It's also the fact Nintendo is for better and worse, a pretty old school company, and many early Japanese games generally didn't credit their teams in the credits directly, or often used nicknames. These specific old practices aren't used nearly as much anymore, Thank God. The primary reason for this back in the day though, was again, to stop their competition from swiping the company's talent. Konami did it, Capcom, did it, Nintendo did it ect.

The Protection thing would only be kind of relevant in this day and age of over-obsessive fans, and bad actors who would throw out racial slurs. However the bad side of this is a potential lack of resume presence in the medium. Granted, for that resume stuff, the bigger issue are canceled games and games that release but shut down quickly being seen as totally irrelevant. AND NDA's making it so it's harder for game developers to show their specific hand on what they did for said title, even if it didn't get the Concord treatment.

As for Sakurai, the guy's really famous as far as Game Devs go, legit on levels like Kojima, Ed Boon and Todd Howard in having a kind of public presence. These people exist, but they tend to be few and far between.
