Well, to be fair, I did not say 450 in cash is so extreme either.

…I was just worried and just expressing it. I am open to take corrections, though.
You said the price might prompt a Wii U situation.

I said I don't think it's that extreme.

Uh..... ok.

$20 from 35 million people that already own Ultimate might be more than $80 from only the people who are willing to pay $80.
Why even release a new Mario Kart then

Once again, I misspoke. I was kind of rushing with that one post. I made a mistake then. Also, I don’t think the Switch ‘s price is extreme.

I am just worried if it is affordable to many. It may seem contradictory l, but I am not worried of buying one myself. It may be not extreme, but it is still high. Maybe not too high for plenty, but I am not seeing at least the best launch sales out there.

Honestly, I just wish I could see on the website how much Mario Kart World will take up storage space wise.

Buying the bundle with it preloaded means Mario Kart World basically just costs 50 bucks, since it's a $450 to $500 difference lol

To be honest, I'd hate to see a 3D instead of 2.5-D Smash game. I don't especially like this trend of making every franchise more and more 3D and/or open-world (depending on the game). With Smash in particular, though, I don't think it'd feel like Smash anymore to me.
Yeah, I don't actually like MKW being open world. It's just wasting dev resources that could have gone to more courses.

I'm not part of the "Sakurai secretly hates modern Kirby" club, but he definitely prioritizes his own work.
In Smash. In an actual Kirby game, I doubt he'll just disregard the majority of the franchise.

Why even release a new Mario Kart then
Because it's 2 consoles old instead of 1?

Honestly, looking at how different Mario Kart World looks compared to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, I think a new Mario Kart game is definitely justified, regardless of whether MK8D gets an upgrade or not.

I wouldn't be surprised if the next Smash game is quite different from Ultimate. Not necessarily something drastic like a 3D brawler arena, but I could see there being plenty of changes. For example: air dashes, air smashes, maybe even assists similar to how they work in Fraymakers. There could also be a few new modes.

Objectively speaking, if they can't figure out how to make Smash 6 stand out from Ultimate, it's possible they’ll just release a Switch 2 upgrade instead.

That said, the lack of any upgrades for Ultimate is a bit suspicious. It makes me wonder if they’ve been working on a new Smash game in secret. But, it's Nintendo, so it could go either way. Maybe they're just waiting to announce the upgrade alongside a potential Fighter Pass 3.

Even if one doesn't have nintendo switch online or the switch 2 expansion version or anything, if, say, just a normal vanilla switch-era BOTW or TOTK cartridge thing were put into a switch 2, would they run better / more smoothly than they would on the switch 1? I mean, I assume so, but you never know for sure with these things I suppose...

Now that the dust is settled, what chances you give to those:

. We get both a Ultimate Switch 2 upgrade and a Smash 6
. We get only a Smash 6 and no Ultimate upgrade
. We only get a Ultimate upgrade and no Smash 6

I really feel like it will be Smash 6.
Reminds me of how Nintendo was going to do a Melee port if Sakurai didn’t make Brawl.
I feel like if Sakurai is making anything Smash related it’s going to be a new game.

These next couple years of waiting to see a new title are going to be rough.
Personally, I’m expecting a Switch 2 upgrade with Fighter Pass 3. I wouldn’t be surprised if they skip Smash 6 this generation, similar to how they skipped MK9 during the Switch 1 era. Maybe they’re not sure how to make a Smash 6 stand out compared to Ultimate and still appeal to customers, especially if it means potential cuts.

I'll say it again: most people seem to want an Ultimate Deluxe, not Smash 6. It’s going to be a tougher sell than Mario Kart World. I remember far more people were ready to move on to MK9 than the number of people I’m seeing excited for a new Smash entry. Honestly, I thought I was the only one who wanted a Smash 6 until I joined this site.

That said, I don’t think a Smash 6 is impossible, but I’m not betting on it. The hype for Smash 6 just isn’t there yet—compare it to the huge excitement for Mario Kart 9, Street Fighter 6, or Tekken 8, and it’s clear the hype around Smash 6 is much much smaller.

Ultimate is in a similar situation of The Sims 4, as in, most fans don't really want a new entry, at least not yet.

I'm tapping out of speculation for a while if this just fuels the port talk tenfold lol. What an awful omen for the next year of Smash talk.

In any case that was a good Direct, honestly a bit lighter on the first party offerings than I was expecting but it's all quality stuff. Mario Kart looks wonderful, Air Riders was an amazing surprise and seeing Sakurai's name was the most excited I got the whole time. Donkey Kong looks like so much fun too. Frankly for as much as people have been clutching pearls about abandoning Rare influence, this is one of the most Rare looking games I've seen in decades.

Price point is annoying. Mario Kart at $80 is hopefully the exception and not the norm, Donkey Kong is $70 which... I expected, really. Not thrilled about it but I'm not surprised. I hope Nintendo has enough sense to know that certain series should remain under that threshold, because I'll be a bit concerned about smaller IP performance if they start selling Rhythm Heaven for $60-70 for example. To be determined I suppose.

We're either getting Ultimate Switch 2 Edition on late 2025 or 2026, or we get Smash 6 later on 2027/2028. The former should allow Sakurai more flexibility since all the base work is done, and let him do other things alongside Smash. If they go for the latter, it'll take longer, and likely the game will be built from scratch.

Zero chance of both things happening though.

Looks like the crazy prices for Switch 2 is unfortunately due to American Tariffs and possibly weak yen.

Switch 2 in Japan is $334 and 395 in the UK. Mario Kart is only 70 in the UK. If you guys want it cheaper, might want to import

Super freaking excited for the new Mario Kart. Expecially since the new open world design hasn't gotten rid of retro tracks.

Also, COOOOOOWW!!!

Never thought I would be hyped over the cow from N64 Moo Moo Farm but here we are.

Mario Kart World roster is looking much more exciting than Mario Kart 8 roster, even with the DLC. So many unexpected newcomers and veterans.

Mario Bros. - Sidestepper
Super Mario Bros. - Cheep Cheep, Goomba, Hammer Bro, Piranha Plant
Super Mario Bros. 2 - Pokey
Super Mario Bros. 3 - Rocky Wrench, Spike
Super Mario World - Dolphin, Fish Bone, Swoop
Super Mario 64 - Penguin, Snowman
Mario Kart 64 - Moo Moo
Super Mario Sunshine - Cataquack, Pianta
Super Mario Galaxy - Luma
New Super Mario Bros. Wii - Nabbit
Super Mario 3D Land - Para-Biddybud, Peepa, Stingby
Super Mario 3D World - Conkdor

If Mario Kart World roster was leaked before today, everyone would be screaming “FAKE!” but it is actually real! Nintendo really outdid themselves with this one.

It sounds like Nintendo was really listening to the complaints about Mario Kart 8 roster with too many characters who are different versions of pre-existing characters and they went wild in the opposite direction in Mario Kart World. So many newcomers with unconventional body shapes.

Most likely a Switch 2 edition since most people don't want a Smash 6 at this moment, with Mario Kart World at least they had some fan-demand, so they have no iniciative to make a Smash 6 really, unless they want to appeal to me and the other 3 fans that would rather have a new game, somehow.
There's even more hype for Pokemon Gen 10 than there is for a Smash 6 i bet, the hype and uninterest is that low.
Like i said earlier, Ultimate will be stuck in a The Sims 4 situation for awhile.

I'm excited for speculation, I think this direct has raised tons of new interesting possibilities to discuss. For example, will Smash DLC now cost 15 bucks a character (stage sold separately)?

I too wish people would stop ignoring the mountains of cash Smash makes and the fact that it NEVER does ports.

Would an upgrade make money? Duh, it's Smash Bros.

Would a new game make MORE money? Probably, because it's ****ing SMASH BROS.

I get the sentiment but frankly anything other than actual Smash news would've perpetuated the discussion. Yes now there's a new angle, but either way the port talk would've persisted. Once this news isn't new the ongoing reveals of further Switch 2 games will balance out the conversation.

I think I'm also gonna tap out on speculation for awhile, because I'm tired of having the Ultimate Deluxe debate and people ignoring the fact that Smash doesn't do ports.

The problem is that very few people are interested in a Smash 6 right now. If you look around, most people are asking for a Switch 2 upgrade for Ultimate, not a new game. Take The Sims, for example—Sims 5 was planned but ultimately cancelled in favor of continuing to update Sims 4. There was a similar lack of interest in Sims 5 as there is in Smash 6.

So the question is: why make Smash 6 if only 1% of Smash players, at most, are asking for it, and the other 99% are asking for a Switch 2 upgrade? If people can keep playing League of Legends for 15 years and World of Warcraft for 21 years, realistically, they’ll have no problem playing Ultimate for that long as well. It’s just how it is.

I also think this might be the last Street Fighter, Tekken, Guilty Gear, and Mario Kart we’ll see in the next 15 years, at least as well, i think Animal Crossing and Splatoon will also take a similar path after the Switch 2 ones release.
