Alright, now that it's been a few hours so I'll give my full thoughts:
  • $450 price tag is more than I thought, but it's managable, although I was worried that they didn't show it in the direct, and I should have been because...
  • MKW Looks amazing but 80 F****** DOLLARS???? It's making me reconsider even getting the console if the games will be THIS expensive. IF (and I can't believe I have to say "IF" now) I do get one, I'll get the bundle at $500 so that it's not as much.
  • GameShare is great and GameChat is a good addition, but holy s***that video call thing looks horrible.
  • Welcome Tour should be free and come with the console (PS5 had Astro's Playroom, and we can't even get something close to that???).
  • Drag & Drive looks like a fun idea but nobody's getting that.
  • Third party support looks great, but was missing a few of the rumored titles like COD and Halo MCC, and it took up WAY too much of the presentation.
  • HW3 looks cool, I liked the other ones, but we're still using this world and artstyle? I love the Wild Era, but I'm really looking forward to something different.
  • Gamecube on NSO+EP might finally get me to buy the EP, especially with SW2 Upgrades being free with it, but why only 3 games at launch?
  • The Duskbloods (Bloodborne 2 lol) looks really cool, but it being multiplayer worries me.
  • Kirby Air Riders is cool especially with Sakurai at the helm, but why no gameplay and 2 racing games in the same year?
  • DK Bananza looks great, and seems like a showcase for the SW2's power with all the destruction and particle effects, kind of like how Astro Bot was last year. Although now I'm really worried we won't see a new 3D Mario for another 3 years or so.
Overall, still underwhelmed (and VERY dissapointed with the game prices) but my mood has improved a bit.

I was about to ask if anyone was up for them in smash
Drag x Drive sounds like it is the Arms of Switch 2.

Ironic considering people used to speculate about Arms sequel called Legs.

Either way I think I will be passing up on Drag x Drive.

I also think this might be the last Street Fighter, Tekken, Guilty Gear, and Mario Kart we’ll see in the next 15 years, at least as well, i think Animal Crossing and Splatoon will also take a similar path after the Switch 2 ones release.
If you don't think any of those games are getting sequels in the next FIFTEEN YEARS, you genuinely sound delusional.

Like no jokes, no bits, this is a LUDICROUS leap in logic to think none of these companies will want to make new game money for FIFTEEN YEARS on some of their FLAGSHIP FRANCHISES.

Now that the dust is settled, what chances you give to those:

. We get both a Ultimate Switch 2 upgrade and a Smash 6
. We get only a Smash 6 and no Ultimate upgrade
. We only get a Ultimate upgrade and no Smash 6
The third option. Bias aside, with Sakurai busy on Air Riders and Nintendo promoting the Switch 2 editions for last-gen games, It really is a no-brainer.

Mario Kart never did ports either until they did with MK8D and paid massive dividends with 60 million units on Switch. Ultimate is still seen as the definitive title to most and considered hard to stop even for Sakurai. An updated version with all DLC, Rollback and extra Fighter Pass would be successful.

Personally, Smash 6 would be a lot more interesting and exciting but $80 price is definitely a huge barrier. Nintendo is unpredictable. Using previous trends when comes to business decisions when they are known for being out of left-field is honestly foolish.

If anything I feel like Mario Kart 9 should demonstrate to audiences that a series can put out a seemingly definitive, chock full of content game like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and still have new things to say and exciting places to go. For years and especially after MK8D DLC, everyone was asking "where do we even go from here?" Lo and behold, there was quite a lot more we could do with it.

I personally don't think Smash will have any problems doing the same, and I'm sure people would go out and buy it. That's the most I feel like saying on the subject.

When i saw Wind waker getting announced for NSO you have no idea how pissed off i got.

No more... Super Robot Wars for me???

So THAT's why Y is getting released worldwide now. That makes sense.

These games sold well in the import market so it convinced Bandai Namco there's a market for it over here

Can't explain your own point.
I'm bored explaining my points to you. You're exhausting and antagonistic to argue with. I'm tired of reading through your rambling speculative dissertations that you try and pass off as expertise.

We don't want the same thing for Smash. That's fine. But I'm tired of arguing with your cherry-picked precedents and made-up financial reasoning.

I'm here to have fun. Not be brow-beat by someone that doesn't know anything than I do.

Take The Sims, for example—Sims 5 was planned but ultimately cancelled in favor of continuing to update Sims 4. There was a similar lack of interest in Sims 5 as there is in Smash 6.
That's probably not a good example because TS4 is a miserable pile of bugs and it gets even worse the more you spend money on it.

And that thing has way too many expansions so there's way too many ways to make it buggier

I just think there's less iniciative to make sequels of those type of games those days, specially when people spend a lot of money with DLC and graphics have kinda peaked.
Like sure, for example Kirby ,Pokemon, Fire Emblem and Xenoblade can probably justify releasing new games forever because those type of games are easier to justify a new game for, simply because the single player aspect.

yeah like SF is coming up on year 3, Tekken 8 just started season 2 with A Patch Of All Time and Gear is halfway through season 4 too. We're not gonna go nearly 20 years without a brand new Street Fighter iteration or 20 years without a new GG title lmao

People get tired of games that go on forever, that's why player counts drop. It's not sustainable to chase the temporary 1 week peaks whenever new major content drops for an extended period of time. If you're massive like GTA or Fortnite then sure but even then you're still gonna make something new sooner rather than later.

World will make more off of $80 copies sold despite the ridiculous price than they'd make off of trying to keep 8 going with another $20 pass/upgrade when it's already over a decade old with people being really tired of it.

People want something to spice up speculation so that we're not spinning our wheels on port vs new for another year or two?

If only there was something a certain group of people could do to fix that. People like the mods and admins. Something like...opening the character threads, maybe. I wonder if anyone has thought of that yet!

Sometimes you just have to make new games to make more money. Rockstar knows this, that's why they confirmed GTAVI is a thing rather than sticking to V forever.

And by your logic, shouldn't we still be getting DLC for SFV and Tekken 7? Because we aren't, because as I said, sometimes you just have to make new games to make more money.

Why is Mario Kart exempt from that though? Every game has new tracks and new playable racers. Do I think World will get DLC, probably. Do I think it needs to go on for 15 years? **** no.

Same goes for Splatoon and Animal Crossing, they haven't had problems making new games before now, why would that suddenly change?

My excitement for The Duskbloods the moment I read what it actually was.
Oh? What is it?

Now that the dust is settled, what chances you give to those:

. We get both a Ultimate Switch 2 upgrade and a Smash 6
. We get only a Smash 6 and no Ultimate upgrade
. We only get a Ultimate upgrade and no Smash 6
1a. If the upgrade brings new Fighters? 5%.
1b. If it doesn't brings new Fighters? 25%
2. 30%
3. 40%

I'll say it again: most people seem to want an Ultimate Deluxe, not Smash 6.
I...don't think that's true. I want that, but I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority.

And even then, I don't technically want Ultimate Deluxe. What I want is more EiH.

If Smash 6 was guaranteed to be EiH2, then I'd rather have THAT.

But if it's a choice between UltimateS2E, and Smash 6 with cuts, I choose UltimateS2E.

Oh? What is it?
It's a multiplayer-focused PvPvE game. Technically that describes all Souls titles but they're really hammering in that this is a multiplayer game in marketing, and Miyazaki was recently talking about how much he wants to make a game like Escape from Tarkov. I don't hate the idea but I would very much prefer a standard single player game, and FromSoft online mixed with Nintendo online sounds like a recipe for disaster.

One more thing before I take a break from speculation:

If the next game is basically Ultimate Deluxe/has EiH2, that's fine. But I'd still rather have an entirely new title in the series even if it means having cuts.

Alright, I'm out. I'll see you guys later.

In any case if you want an actual discussion, how are we feeling about Tarnished as a pick? It's the obvious "omg they're a lock" discussion point and I've been pushing them a viable third party character for a fair bit but I'm genuinely curious how people would be feeling about Elden Ring as a newcomer franchise after that direct.

I was predicting Elden Ring for this Direct for some time and had been seeing Malenia as a viable DLC pick for the next Smash.

Today's Direct has done absolutely nothing to change what I'd already had vibes about going in.

I too wish people would stop ignoring the mountains of cash Smash makes and the fact that it NEVER does ports.
I think I'm also gonna tap out on speculation for awhile, because I'm tired of having the Ultimate Deluxe debate and people ignoring the fact that Smash doesn't do ports.
I'm just imagining people on Mario message boards 8 years ago ranting about how Mario Kart never does ports.

And is a Switch 2 Edition even a port? Howoften does a port let you keep all your save data. It's more like a compatibility patch.

Aren't all of FromSoft Souls-likes? Technically all of the other Souls-like by FromSoft are PvPvE because of the Phantoms/Invaders system. But there is the option to turn off the Online and make it strictly PvE in all of them and I don't see why this game would be any different.

Sure, it's odd that there is quite a bit of focus on the multiplayer aspect, but I'm positive the multiplayer aspect will still be an option like with the other FromSoft Souls-likes.

Sure but none of those other games were marketed like this

Okay, so...

$450, huh? Managable, I guess....
Mario Kart World looking gorgeous, but $80?!? I'm not one to talk about politics, but are the tariffs causing this??

Preeetty sure Welcome Tour should be free AND be packed-in with the console...

Drag & Drive seems... neat, but it needs more "character", if that makes sense. At the moment, all I can think of when I see it is Rocket League meets wheelchair basketball.

Third party support looks great, but took up WAY too much of the presentation (This is probably the biggest reason why the presentation felt a tad... hollow to me on some level.

Hyrule Warriors 3? Okay, then. I wonder how long Nintendo feels they can milk the Wild era before folks start to complain...

Gamecube on NSO+EP... well, I saw that coming. I'll wait a bit before looking into that though. I will say that F-Zero GX is a pretty good idea for a launch game on that front.

KIRBY AND THE FORGOTTEN EXPANSION?? AND KIRBY AIR RIDE 2 DIRECTED BY SAKURAI?!?!?! Insert Stewie Griffin 'Well, I know what I'll be getting~!' sound byte here.

DK Bananza looks amazing and is DEFINITELY selling me on DK's redesign better than M.K.W. is doing right now., although I wonder when Mario's next 3D venture will happen...

I'm very curious what a Kirby game under Sakurai will look like. The name Air Riders suggests multiple characters so will we see him embrace what characters have come after? I think this will be very telling to Bandana Waddle Dee's chances.
Speaking of which, I REALLY hope this game's roster is a bit more... 'diverse', so to speak. Lord knows that Kirby has come a heck of a LONG way from Nintendo and ESPECIALLY the general public's total indifference towards him and his franchise during the 2000's. I'd say it's this indifference that resulted in things like Kirby Ultra Star NOT being properly documented at E3 2005, for instance.

With that said? At the absolute very least, try to get Bandana Waddle Dee, Magolor, and some Helpers in this (i.e. Poppy Bros. Jr., Knuckle Joe, Chef Kawasaki, Wester, Bio-Spark, etc.). Heck, maybe Mr. Frosty and Poppy Bros. Sr. can be made playable like they were planned to be in the N64 version of Air Ride.

Was surprised how little they demonstrated the mouse controls and didn't think the wheelchair basketball game was that interesting of a new IP to showcase this - it seems like Rocket League but a decade late and with mouse controls.
I think it could have been, and I love that wheelchair basketball is a game like this, but the game's presentation is super boring.
What its lacking is... I dunno, a bit of character? Like, ARMS looks distinctly Nintendo with its character designs and general vibe. The wheelchair basketball game thing looks like some maybe mid-2010's sports game available off of steam or something.
Oh, thank God. So I'm NOT the only one who feels this way. Like, the character designs do look SOMEWHAT cool and all (they legit look like modernized versions of the Excitebiker or even a mixture of Excitebiker and Mach Rider!!), but MAN... this game is NOT going to be able to get away with something like minimal story or whatever like ARMS sort of managed to do. No, this needs more.

By the way, I may as well ask... what do we think of Drag & Drive representation in the future of Smash Bros.?

Thinking about how Kirby AirRiders may have serious implications for Bandana Dee's Smash odds depending on if he shows up in the game in any meaningful way
As I've said earlier, I REALLY hope the cast is NOT limited to just Kirby, King Dedede, and Meta Knight. Like I've said, Kirby has come a LONG way and I really hope Sakurai remembers to respect that.

Upgrade Packs have been confirmed to be free for previous owners.

Really?? Well, I guess the Forgotten Land expansion is a guarantee for me now.

I would adore the disabled representation if the characters appear in any way, but other than that I feel nothing. I probably won't even like the music.

The fact that switch 2 games physically are 90 dollars is crazy to me imagine paying 90 bucks for a mario golf game insane ****
This better be like a 3ds situation where prices go down

You know what? I was... quite nervous to bring that up, but yeah. The disabled representation definitely would be quite the presence in Smash Bros., but again... this game needs a LOT more to convince me that it's something worth looking into (like ARMS did).
