All this talk about characters that are 4th party, public domain, and video game characters based on them and I noticed there was a missed opportunity to bring up Sherlock Holmes.

It'll never happen, but I would love him in the game. At the very least, he could be part of Ryunosuke's hypothetical Final Smash, Dance of Deduction (though there's no way we'd get either before someone like Apollo, let alone Phoenix).

I'm hoping all of them get a new rendition. I'm a bit tired of them being a mix of victory themes from Brawl onwards, and Ultimate's inconsistencies especially, where some are from Brawl, some are sped up, some are cut in really awkward spots, but Zelda and Mother get brand new ones.

Just give every series a new version of their victory theme unless it's one of those ones that's ripped right from their game like Joker or Steve, and even then they could definitely work with some of those.

Before Rosalina was revealed, he was one of the top speculated Mario characters alongside Toad.

With Rosalina added and Toad shown to be part of Peach's moveset still, Jr. pretty much ran unopposed for the "2nd Mario character" slot since Waluigi was barely taken seriously at the time (and was not long after Rosalina's reveal shown as an Assist again) and the Geno fanbase was in its dormant state between Brawl and Ultimate.

I don't think his hypothetical pre-release, pre-leak reveal would have had affected his reception much given he was seen as a matter of "when", not "if".
The only thing I could see people commenting on is the Clown Car and Koopalings since people were not at all banking on him being in the Car as a fighter, let alone the Koopalings also being in their own versions of the Car as his alts.

Probably although I think the trailer could have still been after the game released but before Smash Wii U. Like on October for example.

Another example could be Lucario in Brawl who was leaked and overshadowed by Mewtwo being cut.

Daisy was hardly seen as a contender, typically only ever brought up to for example, downplay Rosalina's odds prior to her reveal.

I know this was pages ago, but I figured someone else would have corrected this- and no one did.

Squad Strike basically copies the team format of KoF, not MvC. Much like a lot in Smash it's Sakurai borrowing from SNK.

IIRC, he was one of the most wanted Mario characters, back then people wanted him with the Paintbrush, though. I think people might have been disapointed by the clown car? I remember some people saying it looked really weird.
I think yeah, he didn't seem to cause as much of a reaction than Shulk and Duck Hunt for whatever reason, he was just kind of there and most people just though "cool!".

For some reason, i always forget he's in the game, those days, my friends also forget him, i guess if you don't main him, he's kinda there.

I recall thinking it was between him and toad for 4. and then it was Rosalina. I think I would have been alright but I imagine I’d have been slightly disappointed it wasn’t toad. As for the community at as a whole, I imagine it would have been broadly positive

I see no reason to change all of them. I wish they didn't shorten both the Zelda and Ice Climber themes.

Maybe the Sonic victory theme can be changed to sound more the Sonic Adventure versions. Heck, I wouldn't mind if they just take a version straight from one of those games.

So there’s one guess I have, the soundtrack is using the Sound Selection and not the Complete Soundtrack. The Sound Selection focuses on songs from the main story so a lot of songs will be missing for a while.

Ah, maybe. I did wonder if there was like a soundtrack CD I missed and that's why they didn't wanna do it all at once, kinda like how Side Order has a CD that I feel like is preventing it from being added for now.

I kinda feel like only including the stuff that IS on the soundtrack CD is a bit odd though, since it's pretty much the opposite of Splatoon's thing lol

Bowser Jr in the Smash Wii U presentation and Duck Hunt in the November 2014 direct.

My guess is that the trailers were created much earlier in development before the developers decided that both characters are going to be unlockable. Could be an explanation on why it’s as high quality like the other base-game trailers.

Before Ultimate, the developers generally don’t officially reveal unlockable characters. The main exceptions are Snake and Sonic in Brawl and Lucina in Smash 4.

FWIW, speaking personally? I would have been happy either way, as Bowser Jr. was one of my most wanted characters for Smash since Brawl.

That said, I'd like to point out that the Koopalings were (among other things) a BIG part of what convinced me to go out of my way to buy Smash 4. Heck, they're more-or-less what convinced to give a rat's tail about the idea of Bowser Jr. joining Smash again after Brawl just didn't add him.

The truth is, my support for Jr. just sort of waned after Brawl's full roster was revealed and I just wasn't that jazzed about him in Smash 4... UNTIL the ESRB leak showed off the gameplay of Jr. AND featured a shot of Larry Koopa's trophy, complete with him (Larry) driving a Junior Clown Car of his own (something that I had NO memory of him doing in Mario canon up to that point).

Also I'm looking into this now, apparently the Sound Selection has THIRTY three tracks, not TWENTY three, and the app includes tracks not included in the Sound Selection, like the Waddle Dee Town Weapon Shop, Lunch Rush! A Wave of Waddles, Elfilin's theme, and Soaring Determination: No Night is Eternal (the music from the ending cutscene). There is a lot of overlap, but it's not quite 1 to 1.

EDIT: With that said though, it is the game's three year anniversary tomorrow (similar to when Legends Arceus was added), so maybe they figured they'd upload a small selection of tracks to celebrate and then the rest later in the year when the CDs have been out for longer.

I didn't like this one. There's a bunch of weird normals, including projectiles that don't seem to have much of a purpose in the kit. Neutral Special is literally just Charge Shot. Side special is a neat reference, but it's usefulness seems dubious. Also, the Paper Mario references are handled a bit too 1-1 since this isn't Paper Kamek. The combo meter is especially kinda wonky since it implies that combos give you something extra when they do not.

Tossing Green Shells is fairly inspired, though he doesn't seem to be able to get much use out of it.

I do agree about the kit though. Down Special being a shell toss is kinda cool, but Kamek doesn't really get anything done beyond spawning a shell, which basically just makes it Bowser Jr.'s Mechakoopa with the option to use it (or have it used against you) multiple times, it just doesn't turn around when it reaches a ledge. So when the kit is basically Charge Shot, afflict your opponent with Hocus Pocus status ailments (I actually like this move for Kamek considering the origin of the move, he just has so much endlag after it that you can't really do much with it unless you get a good one at high percents), Teleport, and Mechakoopa, it's just kinda boring imo.

That's not even mentioning the Final Smash. I know there's only so much that can be done with mods, but flying to the top of the screen and firing a single projectile down that explodes is kinda rough lol

I’d love either Ansem or Xemnas as playable characters but I think they’d both work great as bosses too. Ansem would be particularly cool with his final form as the second stage of the fight.

Yeah most of this modder's Final Smashes are explosions centered on themselves, or a beeg projectile, so I mostly just write them off as ridiculously hard to code and ignore them when evaluating things.

I think Xemnas would be a cool boss

For fighter then it’s probably Roxas as an Echo Fighter. Same moves as Sora but he uses two Keyblades for his aerials and smash attacks.

I feel like I’m in the minority here but I personally find it more fun to be able to play as a major villain in Smash than supporting protagonists. That’s one reason I was so excited about Sephiroth in Ultimate. I get the feeling that the majority of fans prefer the secondary protagonists to the villains. For me, the villains often have cooler designs and more interesting movesets and I just enjoy pairing heroes against villains. It’s all subjective but I just think Sora vs Ansem feels bigger than Sora vs Roxas. Of course it still depends on exactly who those characters are. I do like some supporting protagonists more than the villains but as a general rule, that’s how I feel.

Give how bosses in Smash usually work, I think the Guard Armor would make for a fun boss in Smash.
