I'm using KOS-MOS as one of those really random choices. I agree with you that not everyone gets in based on popularity.

I kind of address G&W, R.O.B, and retros with the whole Wayne Gretzky thing. Maybe they aren't legendary, but they are being revived as something to remember from history.

Popularity is not everything, indeed, but retro characters are always neat additions to the roster and gives spotlight and may even revive their series, like what happened with Pit.

Yeah I guess. Gretzky has long-lasting popularity though, while G&W and especially ROB can't claim to have that, at least before they were included. Like Gretzky, they did have long-lasting effects on the history of their medium, so I can see the comparison there I guess. I'm just nitpicking now though, overall I agree. I can't stand when people act like their character is the best and most likely that Smash Bros will ever be graced with.

Also regarding to the mentality of choosing characters, you have to keep an eye on the 4 criteria.

# 1: The character's inclusion must make people want to play the game.
# 2: The character must be unique.
# 3: The character must fit into the style of Super Smash Bros.
# 4: They must contribute to the series balance.

While the actual meaning might be subjective, it should be explanatory for the most part.

Yes. But he is NOT a Nintendo All-Star. Especially compared to the many other characters who have far better chances to be picked.

I honestly dont think there are many "All Stars" left. I think its mostly just cool characters and under represented franchises.

Well you dont know that for sure (nobody knows anything) but as far as I see it he is the next most important character to the franchise, (over toon link as well even though he got in first).

There are still some though. Characters like Ridley, Palutena, King K. Rool and Little Mac definitely count.

While not as bright, Takamaru, Shulk and Isaac are also viable choices as newcomers.

Actually, in the current tier list it's either ICs or Olimar that are second to MK afaik. I like my character anyways though.

In terms of Mario newcomers,
I'm in favor of Dr. Mario, Toad, Waluigi, and Junior.
I consider Paper Mario to be a Mario-Related character rather than just a Mario character. If we don't see K. Rool I think we'll certainly see Paper Mario in his place.

In terms of Zelda the next viable rep would have to be Tetra, whether with or without Toon Zelda.
Considering that she has had three appearances in the franchise (Windwaker, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks [Only mentioned though]).
Impa is technically possible, yes. But you wouldn't actually consider her a popular character in the Zelda franchise, would you?
Tingle would also be another nice choice, but you have the negative outlook of him outside of Japan.

Overall, I personally don't see either character getting a rep. But if they did I think we'd see Dr. Mario return and Tetra with Toon Zelda (Probably).

The bolded made me laugh, it's sad how true it is.

I suppose I should say Demise is very unlikely. Even though he is important to the overall storyline of Zelda, there are superior choices in the factors that Sakurai tends to look at more when choosing characters, both in his own series and just in general.

Because TK is my favorite Angel Beats character, and this game is called "Lucky Chance", I'm participating. And I'll be picking the greatest number of all time: #4

God that would be lame I want the sword master, not the sword...

How so? I find that Ghirahim becoming his true form, the dark "Master Sword" if you will, and resurrecting his master with his magical dance, to wield him in a monstrous transformation Final Smash like Giga Bowser, would be quite epic, fitting for a Final Smash.

Of course, these are opinions, and that is just what I envision to be the acme of what it could be. I am guessing though by how you word that you want Demise himself. If so you are quite the rare bird! And I do not say that to belittle you.

Back in the day, I'd be all over this kind of thread. But now I'm far too skeptical and open once the burdens of bias and entitlement were lifted from my heart.

I think for the Mario franchise, I would like to see Waluigi or Bowser Jr.

I'd prefer Toad if he's given a moveset that makes sense as to why he is able to compete with Nintendo's finest (i.e. give him a moveset with heavy reliance on items he pulls out).
Although I admit Bowser Jr probably has a pretty good chance due to his relatively large roles in almost every major Mario game released on the Wii's.

Well, Ganon is essentially Demise, so you could say Demise's essence never died. His hatred and fury are what made Ganon the villain he is, which proves to be quite tragic, as revealed in Wind Waker.

This in consideration, Demise is likelier as a Ganondorf alt. rather than a new character, but on the other hand, Smash isn't canon, so we can't take this for granted.

Is that really the right thing to do? The reason it didn't happen in Brawl, although at that point he is no longer a tacked on fluff character, could be because Sakurai did not want to bring substantial changes to a character's existing M.O.

I mean, I wouldn't mind either way (apathy!~), but I can understand both sides of the coin.
