I am somewhat surprised that a Doomguy from the first Doom and Doom 2 and Wolfenstein's B.J Blazkowicz are eligible. Both franchises showed up on the SNES and GBA. In spite of Doom being more popular and more relevant, both franchises made an impact on games for generations to come. They shaped the FPS genre. To bring this back to Smash though and part of a similar discussion, what third party character do you think is the most surprising when it comes to them being Smash-eligible?
Not at all. In fact, Tom Nook has always been a very popular request. Way before Villager actually. Villager was just called 'Animal Crossing Kid' and most didn't even want him playable, but choose Tom Nook instead. They'd rather have Tom represent SC than Villager. And after the reveal of Villager, Tom Nook support died quickly.Am I the only one who thinks Tom Nook should get in if they ever decide on a second AC rep?
Tom Nook was just kind of seen as the AC rep. Villager/Crosser/AC kid/etc.. wasn't really fondly thought of back then, but a lot of people thought AC should have a character, and Nook was the most popular out of the bunch. I'm not sure if anyone really wanted him to begin with or just an AC character, but I still support and I'd love to see more people lend their support. Not at all. For Wii Fit Trainer, Tamara fits. Villager is definitely a Donny type of guy.I'd much rather have had Nook over Villager.
I hate nameless template characters. Wii Fit Trainer should've been given a name, too.

Because some people want Smash to stay purely Nintendo. I'm one of them. Final Fantasy started on Nintendo but has been Sony at a greater length.About and all the other third-party stuff.
The way I see it is, if the series a specific third-party character comes from has made a significant appearance on a Nintendo system, they are worthy enough to be considered in Smash.
And is by far the most popular and recognizable protagonist of the Final Fantasy series, which started on the Famicom/NES.
It just baffles me some people are still reactionary on his inclusion.
I wouldn'r want to erase the series from Smash, the six on the NES and SNES were really great games... Just add a character who's actually in those six games, on Nintendo consoles. Cecil, Bartz and Terra, any one of those three.Because some people want Smash to stay purely Nintendo. I'm one of them. Final Fantasy started on Nintendo but has been Sony at a greater length.
Not necessarily.Because some people want Smash to stay purely Nintendo. I'm one of them. Final Fantasy started on Nintendo but has been Sony at a greater length.
Oh yes pls. Would love to see Lorule and Hilda again! But not sure if they will do that or make another from scratch.Breath of the Wild didn't really give us a character that could be in Smash. The Champions are important, yes, but I doubt one of them would be picked over the others. The Old Man, as appealing as he is, is probably not happening. Impa is elderly again and showed no signs of combative skills like the Impa of Skyward Sword did.
I hope Nintendo reuses the same assets and engine from Breath of the Wild to make a new Zelda game that takes place in Termina or Lorule. They did that before when they reused Ocarina of Time assets and engine to come up with Majora's Mask.
I'd try to main either of the 3 if she comes backIf we're changing up which part of the evolutionary line is playable, I'd much rather have .
Seriously though. Venusaur would be amazing.
In all seriousness, if Undertale was the kind of Indie game to put it's characters in everything like they were ketchup, San's brother Papyrus would be the perfect character. Of all the Undertale Boss Monsters he's got the least spoilers attached and he has a lot of moveset potential. Sans could be an assist trophy who works like Ressetti, taking up the screen with dialogue. and if you attack him, he just steps into the background, wondering why no-one else does it.Indie discussion?
I can see Sans from Undertale in Smash.
There are none. What's the issue with "nameless" characters exactly?
People have a right to their own opinion. There are none.
PsychoJosh is just being nitpicky.
Plus there's a chance that the Final Fantasy VII remake could be released on the Nintendo Switch. It doesn't seem to be a PS4 exclusive, and if it is, it could be timed exclusive. If they see the Nintendo Switch do well, they might add this title amongst others. What's the issue with "nameless" characters exactly?
Not necessarily.
And yes, I get it, people want the main series, and don't see the spin-offs as relevant when it comes to appearances but and FFVII are arguably the most iconic/recognized in the series. And through spin-offs he has made a few appearances on Nintendo platforms.
- FF 1-6 were S/NES titles.
- FF 7-9 were multi-platform, being on both the PS1 and PC.
- FF X and X-2 were multi-platform, releasing on the PS2 and PC.
- XII is the only true PlayStation exclusive (among the main series titles) releasing only on the PS2.
- The XIII series was multi-platform, releasing on the PS3 and XBOX 360.
- XV is again multi-platform, releasing on the PS4 and X1.
- XI and XIV are multi-platform.
- Every Nintendo system bar the N64 and VB has otherwise continued to receive FF games, albeit spin-off series like Crystal Chronicles and Theatrhythm.
His original association may have been with PlayStation, but he is not a Sony character. Sakurai recognized his importance within Final Fantasy as a franchise and decided on him to represent the series. He's eligible, narrowly so, but he is all the same, and I don't think he was a bad choice. While I'd like to see an S/NES FF rep or a Bravely Default character get in eventually, I do think Cloud was an appropriate choice to represent Square Enix and Final Fantasy as a whole.
- Final Fantasy Explorers (3DS)
- Theatrhythm Final Fantasy (3DS)
- Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call (3DS)
- Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories (GBA)
- Kingdom Hearts re: Coded (DS)
There's that as well, but as we haven't seen any real indication of a Switch release, I felt it was best left unmentioned. Until we get confirmation that a Switch release is in the works, I don't see it as a point in Cloud's favor since as of now it's just a rumor.Plus there's a chance that the Final Fantasy VII remake could be released on the Nintendo Switch. If this happens, all my complaints about Cloud evaporate. All I want to see from a Third Party character is a real, actual game from their series with them in it, on Nintendo.Plus there's a chance that the Final Fantasy VII remake could be released on the Nintendo Switch. Does anyone know why they were so stingy with things like music? FF has a plethora of beautiful songs to add to the game but there were like only 2 songs available in game.I think Nintendo showed more love and care to Cloud than Square did, who only licenced the bare minimum & Advent Children alt.
Even though there were just some complaints about "nameless" template/avatar characters, I'd actually like that from Final Fantasy as well. However, I'd like a Red Mage, though one that's not specifically referred to as a Red Mage.I still think we should get Black Mage or Terra along with Cloud in the next game though. Final Fantasy is big enough and iconic enough to warrant 2 reps and magic is an important mechanic throughout almost every single FF game, plus it'll give the Nintendo FFs some love. Bartz could also work to show off another important part of the series: job changing.
I'd say it's somewhat likely that we'll get FF7 on Switch(didn't someone say something about how ridiculously easy it was to port games over to the Switch? or was that only porting from the Wii U?), and hopefully that brings the FF12 remake along with it.

If they stuck with strictly FFVII content then I'd like Tifa as well, but I think many are hoping they branch out to the other games even if it's just for music, trophies and the like.People talk about Black Mage, Cactaur, Moogle, Bartz, Terra, etc.
And I'm just sitting here wanting Tifa to show up. :V
But Tifa has two big reasons why she should be in Smash. :VIf they stuck with strictly FFVII content then I'd like Tifa as well, but I think many are hoping they branch out to the other games even if it's just for music, trophies and the like.
I wish we had some FFVII Mii costumes. Mind you, I definitely want Aerith and Sephiroth the most costume-wise.People talk about Black Mage, Cactaur, Moogle, Bartz, Terra, etc.

What better way to promote FFVIIr than with Miss Lockhart right?I wish we had some FFVII Mii costumes. Mind you, I definitely want Aerith and Sephiroth the most costume-wise.
Also, even if the Switch were getting FFVIIr, at best, Cloud would already be in Smash Switch for his own merits, and that would be an excuse used to help promote FFVIIr. Not the other way around.
Should've use spoiler tags to give the joke more punch, but still nice nonetheless. I was expecting two legitimate reasons from the start though. But Tifa has two big reasons why she should be in Smash. :V
The fact she's almost as iconic as Cloud himself and because she's a kickass brawler chick, which we don't currently have in Smash. If she and Chun-Li both made it, they'd be the perfect team.
....what did you think I was going to say? Get your minds out of the gutter, people.
Ah, I was too predictable. :VShould've use spoiler tags to give the joke more punch, but still nice nonetheless. I was expecting two legitimate reasons from the start though.
That said, perhaps Tifa or Barret could work as Assist Trophies, or even just trophies would be nice. It's a pipe dream but if they ever brought back Boss Battles, Sephiroth would of course make for a great secret boss as well.
In addition to that I was really hoping for JENOVA, Hear the Cry of the Planet and Crazy Motorcycle Chase. Especially the last one just to have vs team matches to steal the bikes.Ah, I was too predictable. :V
And anything to be an excuse to include One-Winged Angel in Smash. The fact that that particular track was excluded of all tracks from FFVII is heresy.
So. Much. This.Ah, I was too predictable. :V

So much this one again for OWA and Guile's theme.So. Much. This.
Also, where's Guile's Theme? D:
It's probably easier to license a one-time song use than to have it available at all times. It's pretty clear a lot of this is for money reasons. >.<So much this one again for OWA and Guile's theme.
Also the Chocobo theme is nowhere to be found yet they used it in Cloud's reveal trailer. What gives?
