I wouldn't be surprised if it was $450-$500, to be honest. Considering the prices of the consoles at the moment, I can't imagine any of the new ones going for less than $300.

Considering the american economy, plus examples from the past, the cheapest alternative is what the masses will want to purchase. With the right marketing, it can be done.

And, personally, I don't want this graphical powerhouse, or mad piece of machinery. I have become content simply with what we've received this generation from XBox360 and PS3. Maybe some minor improvements, as that all that's really needed.

I want to see games with mind blowing gameplay that are fun again to play. Not marvel at the sight of a game. That's not really what defines a Video Game. Yet this industry has made us believe it, and it's disgusting.

I think that's already what Ninty has accomplished with the Wii this gen. They've made games that have some of the best gameplay I've seen like SMG which kept me playing for months when it first came out, AND it looked pretty. I swear I was amazed when I saw Mario collect that first star in SMG and the gameplay was amazing. They showed us that you can make pretty games and have it be fun too.

If only Sony and M$$$$ would take a page out of their book because all they're concerned about is getting sales and appealing to the 12 year audience with parents who have cash in their wallets who don't know any better

Honestly, all Nintendo really needed to do on the Wii U was to make a better online, make it look a bit nicer, and get better 3rd party support. This gen all that really amazed me that was 3rd party was Sonic Colors and that's pretty much it. The rest of my library would consist of 1st party games simply because of the nauseatingly amount of first party games for that console with some of the good third party companies being left out

What's wrong with really good graphics? I've played a lot of games that have both good graphics and good gameplay.

What's your definition of "Good?"

I can understand being astounded by the leap from 8-bit to 16-bit, and then the jump to 32/64 bit era. And then again for the PS2/GCN/XBox days. But I, myself, haven't seen anything truly impressive since. Look at a game like Tales of Vesperia, and Muramasa, and even something like Mad World. Vesperia did was the previous consoles did. Didn't take advantage of the ability the consoles had, and it turned out amazing. Muramasa/Mad World all had unqiue, artistic takes to their interface, and power was not what was behind it.

What I am getting at is Graphics, by this point, should not be a heavily emphasized category. We've reached a point where developers have all the tools they need. The only ones complaining of limitations are the ones who want to attempt hyper realism, and quite honestly, those who attempt it create only visual stunning marvels and nothing beyond it. The game become short because of how much they focused on the realism.

My definition of good would be Super Mario Galaxy graphics. I do understand what you're saying though about how the game's emphasis shouldn't be about graphics alone. Its honestly hard to see graphics improving that much with the next gen, but I guess we'll see.

Can we all agree that a new F-zero/Star Fox game should be made?

And I'm hoping for a $300-$350 price range. Affordable, yet reasonable.

@UberMario: We are not getting anything above $400. I guarantee you that.

I would love it if they made a new f-zero and a new star fox game. I still wonder why they didn't make either of those games on the Wii. I guess they were too busy appealing to casuals or something.

You make it sound like that's a bad thing. That's why they're 1st place and have made millions in profits.

There's only so many games Nintendo can make, and I imagine sales would not have been good enough if say...Mario Galaxy 2 was replaced by Star Fox or F-Zero. Nintendo should do more outsourcing to give their other franchises a chance.

It is a bad thing, because of nintendo appealing to casuals, you got crappy games like cooking mama instead of star fox and f-zero.

1. Cooking Mama is fun

2. Nintendo doesn't make Cooking Mama

3. A game like Cooking Mama costs basically nothing to make and takes very little time to create.

4. If Nintendo did make Cooking Mama, it is not in a genre that is competing with Star Fox or F Zero and as such they wouldn't make it instead of one of those games.

Ok, fine. Look, all I'm saying is I hate that Nintendo appealed more to casuals this generation. Which is definitely true. Nintendo did make some good games for the Wii, but when I go to Gamestop and look at the selection for the Wii, I see many more casual games like cooking mama, exercise games, and other games like that than the kind of games that I prefer (games such as mario, legend of zelda, starfox).

You seem to think that Nintendo makes every Wii game.

Yeah that's true, but a big part of that is also due to the Wii being so much weaker than the other two consoles. This means that any port of those games was significantly worse, and most serious developers did not see it as profitable to spend a lot of time making big games on the wii because a shovelware game like Kidz Party 6 or whatever sells more.

It doesn't help that when a developer did decide to take a risk (Silent Hill Shattered Memories, No More Heroes) the games didn't sell. Nintendo's casual-centric marketing has a lot to do with it, yeah, but that's definitely where the money was this time around. I don't think Nintendo will be able to survive with this same strategy into the next gen.

Makes me wonder...when the Wii U comes out, the two tough things developers will have to overcome are...making controls fun and intuitive for the tablet and wiimote. Then when PS4 and 720 come out...will developers jump off the Wii U assuming those consoles are more powerful?

Considering that the PlayStation 2 was less powerful than the Gamecube or Xbox . . . .no. The difference in power will be minor at best, and it will definitely not be as extreme as the graphical difference between the Wii and it's competition. If all that developers cared for was power, the PS3 and X360 would have barebone libraries because PCs are superior. The problem with the Wii though was that it's lack of power was so noticeable that the PS360PC developers would practically have to redesign their games from the ground up to work with it.

It's dependent on how the WiiU is marketed.

Nintendo already has this image of being kid friendly which they've tried so hard to fix, but they can't seem to ultimately shake off because of the style of their games, their marketing in recent memory, AND the damage Sega and Sony did to tarnish their reputation in the 90s.

Fortunately, Nintendo was wise in the last few years and decided to roll with the image and market to a broader audience, which granted them much success.

Now, it's a matter of how they handle themselves in the coming years. because the folks who will keep them alive have needs and wants too. Nintendo should adapt and provide similar services to their competitors, rather than be different. Their unique software should be what propel them from there.

And honestly, the power of the WiiU and what the power MAY BE for the PS4/720, will be so unnoticeable now, it really wouldn't make a difference. Developers will not have the fund or time to take full advantage of the hardware. To do that, you'd be seeing game in development for 5+ years. The way Nickelodeon games are on today's consoles (Still looking like last generation, but more refined) that's how I see next gen - Still looking like console games today, only more refined.

What did Sega and Sony do to tarnish Nintendo's reputation? I was pretty young in the 90's which is why I don't really recall what happened.

It wasn't until that time that people started becoming aware of Nintendo's family friendly nature. And it's something that apparently got under the consumer's skin.

Things like the Mortal Kombat Sweat for the SNES, and Ads from Sega like "Sega does what NintenDon't" and the like.

I suppose it was genius considering the immaturity of the gaming industry and its consumers, of which you can still see is prominent today.

You should look it up some time. The ads are stuff you might not get away with today.

The power differential between the PS2, Xbox, and GC was minimal at best. I don't know when they plan to come out with PS4 or 720, but if they do wait a few years, then it's very possible the consoles can be stronger than what the Wii U can provide. Remember, the PS2 was out for about 5 years before the PS3 debuted. The PS3 is currently entering its 6th year, while Xbox is entering it's 7th year. People also say that it's impossible to make that big of a graphical jump, but look at these. Real in game graphics.

Now currently, something like this would cost about 2000-2500 dollars. When Crysis 1 came out in 2008, it would have cost around 1100 to run on max. Now it costs about 600. Crysis 2 on max settings cost about 1100 dollars on PC to make.

What I'm saying is, it would not surprise me if the PS4 and 720 at least obtain Crysis 2 on max settings. Given the fact PC parts also have to accommodate for other aspects (Windows OS), consoles tend to cut corners.

And the comparison to consoles and PC is not a good one. Consoles are simplistic, mainly gaming machines that anyone can plug in and play. PCs require one to have the knowledge to how to open up their desktop, and be able to upgrade it when the time comes. On top of that, you would constantly be making purchases throughout the years, where as a console is a one time purchase and that's it. Now tell me which one is easier for the average Joe?

We don't know much about the Wii U, but most reports say it's slightly better than the PS3. And there are other concerns like improving from the Wii menu, incorporating things like Hulu, Netflix, and other "apps" in a better way. Online play is another concern as well.

Tbh, I see Sony/MSoft holding the mainstream while Nintendo sails with IPs. Isn't that how it always goes? Also... just saying, 85% of the non IP/CO (Consoles Only) games are better on PC.

I'm gonna be like Egoraptor a tad.

I think the time of "Goddamn, look at those graphics" has come and gone. I think things have hit a plateau of impression. I don't think the consumers care as much, nor the developers will pour enough time to make them looks great.

But there are still many people who'd rather "Goddamn, look at those graphics" than anything. And they're becoming a smaller, louder minority considering the new kinds of consumers in the market.

It's definitely possible! I know that some select DC games are already available on the XBLM and PSN!
Yeah Sonic Adventure 1, but not 2

The ENTIRE Sonic series is on PSN, but SA2, which I can't get enough why not. I mean they can put Sonic 4, Sonic CD, SA1, S1-3&K, yet they can't even put SA2 :glare:

Sonic Adventure 2 should be coming out soon. Just not SA2 battle on the PSN/XBLM as it was a GCN exclusive.

BUT, I've also heard some rumors that SEGA lost the source code for SA2. So I'm not sure if it's 100% possible that it will be released.

They could just emulate the Gamecube version then and have the Wiipad use a generic, GC-esque configuration. SA1 and SA2 were much more polished on the GC, anyway.

Well said, Uber. That is true but, there could be some other things (which I have no Idea) that might not release SA2 on psn/xbl.
I might look into it more often and see what it is.

They should add extra content into SA and SA2 if they are going to release for Wii U.

Add Silver and etc. into the versus mode for SA2

and

Advanced graphics for SA
