Do you guys really think he is worthy to be in the roster? With Young Link, we know Sakurai simply see's a child entity of Link as an important aspect of the series, not neccisrily the OoT/MM incarnation itself. So, it's safe to say that Toon Link is probably here to stay, which, if true, then there would be no reason to add Young Link. The child Link catagory is filled with a much more popular (And somewhat more prominent) choice. Young Link has no real reason to return.
With Pichu, the character itself got a lot of flack, and Sakurai realizes this. Not only that but his inclusion was both to be a joke character (bad on purpose) and a last minute roster buff. On top of that, Melee and Brawl have shown the series of Pokemon itself to have a realitively unstable roster. Pichu was completely scrapped after Melee, and Mewtwo was put in a low priority position in Brawl. (We should also note that Jigglypuff was one of the last characters added for some reason) Overall, Pichu just doesn't seem likely.
Then we have, Roy and Mewtwo, who are a whole different story. Big fanbases, were actually planned for Brawl, ect.
THEN, we have Doc. He was at one point planned for Brawl. He's also an easy clone, who has probably the third biggest fanbase out of all these characters (within the smash community, at least). He's a wildcard, IMO. It says something that he was going to be added to Brawl, and as far as we know, there was never an indication of Waluigi, Junior, or Toad being playable. Who knows? He could get in.
I'm thinking, ALT costume, white cape, pills, none of the costume is stat changing. Just look different.Alternate costume would be the best idea. I've tried SSB Crusade and it has a sort of character modes, in which you can select between Luigi and Weegee, or between Power Suit Samus and Zero Suit Samus. I think it could be a way to implement Dr. Mario.
Very insightful, explanatory postNo, just no.
Such a compelling argument.Maybe I should be more constructive, hence herby I post my deliberately well thought analysis considering Dr.Mario's appearance in Smash Brothers:
NO!!!!
If you would care about my opinion about the Doc, read through the thread. If you want a quick answer: filler, do not want.
Now, you got a valid argument. Good.So far it tops just about every reason to make Dr.Mario return.
Note how the only characters with cut backlash from Melee are Mewtwo and Roy? And note how just about a 1000 characters are suggested more than Dr.Mario, even though he was in Melee, and planned for Brawl at some point? I noticed this, and hence I don't want Dr.Mario back unless we get a 70 character + roster. Which won't happen in this millenium any time soon.
Actually it was a huge boon for those that have a brain.Mewtwo and Roy being cut was a disgrace, that I very much agree.
You calling me brainless?Actually it was a huge boon for those that have a brain.
More like calling 98% of people brainless. Again, people are morons. You calling me brainless?
Hope you've included me on those 2%. On your second statement, I very much agree.More like calling 98% of people brainless. Again, people are morons.
Just in case Sakurai couldn't get approval to use Marth from Intelligent Systems, he had some King Dedede concepts ready as a backup.
He thought about having a trainer summon the second generation starters, but there wasn't time/resources for such a labor-intensive character.
Dr. Mario made sense for a few reasons: he's from a critically-acclaimed retro game, the team wanted to include his music, and because a doctor would probably be on hand at an event as violent as Smash Bros
I actually made a decloned moveset for Dr. Mario that had stuff like that. I believe I posted it a page or two back. It's because of that statement that makes me feel that Dr. Mario being made more into a "doctor" fighter would be suitable.
He already uses pills as a form of attack, why not give him comically large syringes and the like as well?
It makes as much sense as Captain Falcon being a fiery Kamen Rider.
Now that would be a good idea, indeed... how couldn't I thought of this before? It definitely can work. It's because of that statement that makes me feel that Dr. Mario being made more into a "doctor" fighter would be suitable.

For every character added, there's a ton more who don't make the cut. That's how I see things.Sakurai could have thrown in a walking nintendo power magazine as a character in melee and we'd still have smash fans rallying for its inclusion into SSB4 because of its "popularity".
These cut characters need a really good reason to come back, otherwise they're just taking up a character slot for a potentially good challenger.
Because there's a lot to draw from Dr. Mario games that can inspire a moveset... oh, and surely there aren't characters that don't take more liberties when taken into Smash. Pit totally had a bifurcated bow in the original Kid Icarus and Captain Falcon totally Falcon Punched his foes in F-Zero.So far Mewtwo's cut being a boon hasn't been explained, and Dr.Mario's inclusion hasn't been justified.
And I don't want a Dr.Mario moveset with doctor equipment. At least TRY to make it relevant as possible with attacks based on the Dr.Mario games. Untill then: no. Just no.
My favorite is how ike has a fiery explosion attack although ike in FE has no association with fire attacks. Its as if the title of the game implies that somebody has to have some sort of fire superpower.Because there's a lot to draw from Dr. Mario games that can inspire a moveset... oh, and surely there aren't characters that don't take more liberties when taken into Smash. Thing is: Pit and Captain Falcon have more reason to be in Smash than Dr.Mario in the first place.Because there's a lot to draw from Dr. Mario games that can inspire a moveset... oh, and surely there aren't characters that don't take more liberties when taken into Smash. What sort of reason? Do enlighten me, "Sakurai-san."Thing is: Pit and Captain Falcon have more reason to be in Smash than Dr.Mario in the first place.
